  • adaptions,adaptions,adaptions...Should i get an angle bracket and change the cross slide on my mini lathe to set it up for milling? NO,i should save myself the tool changes and adjustments and buy a mini mill.. I did and i can finally get on with my hobbies. Plus,i now shapen my lathe tools on a wheel in the mill...Its a double whammy.. Ahhhh,i love it

  • Just look at all the grease on the wall.. My ole gal wouldnt be happy with that!@ :D

  • @djpaulk That's not the wall, its a sheet of white harboard to stop the oil from the lathe marking the wall. Your ole gal would be pleased.

  • @myfordboy Ohhh ok,we call it 'gyprock' in aus, because maybe of its components?

A scraggy offcut always saves the day :)

  • Love your casting pattern design, its always ........Not overkill...But mega robust an looks sweet.

I would love for you older blokes to pass down your ole skool pattern making skills ,so that some of us ole fella's(non-CNC) can keep the art going without expensive gear.

I use car body filler, plaster, spray putty, enamel paint... Any tips on how to clean up a pattern quick?

  • @djpaulk Best not to rush the pattern construction. The casting is only as good as the pattern.

  • @myfordboy guess its kinda like painting something...Only as good as the 80%+ or so,prep?..

  • @myfordboy Ohh well.. YOU,my old man.. and my friend mrpete222,or whatever, within a thou,or so.. Have inspired me to make my own alloy home foundry.. I would be way happy if you could watch my vid and check for any safety violations :D I have not had a spill, but i would imagine that the skin keeps hot metal away and also provides insulation....Well that my excuse for staying in my pyjama's

  • @myfordboy At the moment i am just using green sand.. Mix of sharp sand, fire clay and the right amount of moiture.Mixing it by hand is a bloody chore. I hate that part, but i persist.

I have most resources to make a muller but i dont have any design to go off.I have heard of a mighty might?mini muller? Not sure of all that, but i wat to fab something.I need reduction gears/layshaft.. How to make a sand muller... HHmmmm

  • @djpaulk Do a Google search for George Vontorne muller.

  • @myfordboy the links seem unavailable, error 404.But as one does,i will keep checkin.

And thanks for the link.I am lucky to have better materials to start with, than some of these creative fella's.... a propane tank...?? AHHH.... Be bothered to make it? Crushing the grains/crystals/sand...abrasive..... how thick is a cylinder wall? limiting life..How much mulling do you need to do...... o_O

  • @djpaulk Link works fine here.

  • @myfordboy Ok,the first one i came across was 404 error ..There also seems to be alot of trolling / spammy shit. I respect everything you say.George Vontorne muller,iz the stuff for diy mullers...Stoners keep away!! U&nless you wanna learn some :) My PC knowledge is not great but i am ok at other/hands on kinda stuff..My nxt prob is sharpening my own end mills :S Its just prob after prob with me... SOZ :s

  • Brill!

You make it look so easy. Great solution to the limitations of the lathe. Keep up the good work!

  • you're good! :) i thought only we in Bulgaria do such stuff and you - the western guys just buy what you need. This solution is perfect - have you cased the raiser support or it's milled? Maybe the poor lathe is coming short of torque but anyway.... it doesn't complain much and gets the job done:)

  • @sanches2 The raiser and base are castings.

  • @myfordboy AHHHH,the castings. When we encroach the age of 40 we either buy a red sports car,or become interested in metal castings..I could only afford the latter.

  • Nice job.

  • Outstanding solution!

  • @cevrardvaliantone It is totally awesome, but i almost like the solution to a keychain figurine better.Lego...where did we start at??

  • thats awesome bud, I luv doing what they say cant be done

  • @ROCKNTV1 What cant be done? "Just do it" 'Nike' :D

  • I guess I have to cook up a way to turn a +24'' diameter on my 6'' lathe now...

  • Intelligent solution. I love watching your videos.

  • Where there is a will there sure as hell is a way! Very nice bit of engineering there, poor little motor struggling to turn that diameter hehe :D

  • Have you seen my videos on the Globe Milling Attachment? I can turn 14 in diameters on my Sheldon 10 in lathe. A great, vintage design I was very fortunate to acquire.

Thanks for all your great work here

  • KOOL.

  • Very resourceful!!!

  • Great job on that spindle. Beautiful cut!

  • The ingenuity of home workshop engineers never fails to amaze and impress me. Thanks for posting.

  • Very nice build David sounds like you could use a few extra ponies though. Will a motor upgrade be in the future?

  • Very nice!
