The 60's were a good time to be growing up, but people seem to forget how restricted us kids were to exposure to "pop" music ,the BBC were still playing ballads from the 30's and 40`s with only the occasional nod to the younger generation during the daytime, granted there were some pop shows but generally everything was controlled by people in grey suits,Tv was in Black and white, the artists were forced to mime and it shut down at 10.30pm! The Pirate Stations did their part but were made illegal
I was surprised to see Dusty and Tom singing the Goffin-King song, "Sweet Sweetheart"--I thought the only person who ever sang the song was Barry Williams !Yup, Greg Brady recorded the song as a one-off single during his Brady Bunch heyday!
Dusty can sing in different languages and different styles. It's so nice to see her sing duets with these wonderful singers. I love the way Dusty acts coy with Robert Goulet & the song she does w/ Andy Williams just melts my heart. She overflows with talent.
@DustysGotSoul Thanks for this very entertaining special video. *)*
The fact that Dusty could duet with such a varied range of singers, from Tom Jones (my fav pairing w/her), Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Williams, Bob Goulet, and transcend all those musical genres with the wink of a heavily made-up eye (or should I say the flick of a hand gesture?)..is a testament to her amazing musical abilities! GO DUSTY!
gee do i have to hate one singer to like another? By the way, Dusty;s career ended in America when in the early 1970's she admitted she was bisexual. In Europe it continued. No one cared. Here... it ruined her.
Nonsense. Her career did not "end" because she admitted to being bisexual. And in Europe her career did not "continue" in spite of it. She wasnt having hits in either the US OR in Europe after the early 1970's, but I doubt that played any significant role...
And besides, when she did reveal it, it made little more than a few ripples. The world was very different back then- you didnt have TMZ, Perez Hilton or some fool on Twitter reporting a star's every breath...
@mopable yes those bands are great, but dusty springfield is great too in her own style and so is patti smith she's special too, you are commenting in a dusty springfield video for something, and music is so diverse and rich that if you really love music it can be boundless regarding styles and tastes.I mean there's so many good music
Anyway Dusty Springfield is amazing and she was so eclectic ,she could go from pop to motown, soul and still preserve her own style,I admire her for doing that.
Watch closely at 2:15. Dusty looks at her palm for the words. She had terrible eyesight and couldn't use cue cards so she would write them on her hand. Also, if someone could tell me the name of that song I'd really appreciate it.
She sings two different Petula Clark songs..."Round Every Corner" (with Marvin Gaye) and "American Boys" (with Robert Goulet) which was a minor hit in the States, but not in the UK.

Sweet Sweetheart..it's a Carole King song
That was funny to watch her check her hand...it's easy to see when it's been pointed out.
theboyfromxtown 2 years ago
Did Carol write it for someone? Who did it first?

Not many british singers could sing in so many difrent styles, let alone sing along with Motown legends and sound as good as them.
She was the greatest.
