  • Really good job, this is the best overview I have seen and I have watched many. Yours is for people who are used to using hardware like myself. Thanks!

  • @R2leenew glad to help fam, good stuff

  • hey cool man ,,,

  • @floatershaw thanks for watching

  • man im not gonna front i used ableton because it came free with my mpk but after watching your vid i think i might install this again lol

im currently using fl studio and vst's.. but i wanted to get cubase because it looks easy to use and i might try abelton out again.

  • @NINOBROWN914 yeah man, it's pretty nice yo

  • Nice job Man, you explained it really well. (TU)

  • @laughingcrows glad to help man!

  • uhhhmmmm .

  • Thanks for making this sooo plain. I'm a beginner using Logic pro 8 and wanted to use my sequence live during worship services. Still researching Ableton LIve to see if its the right program for me

  • @n2ndcc glad to help yo!!

  • The new Record 1.5/Reason 5 might be right behind Ableton, with the new blocks features!!! its pretty beastly!!!

  • @THEOPHILUS1 I saw it, blocks are cool, but Reason isn't touching ableton in my opinion. But I'm just not a Reason fan, I downloaded the demo of the newest version and I still don't like it...I don't know what it is. Blocks where very nice, but other than that...I just didn't see the big deal lol.

  • @SoundsAndGear hey brah thats very fair!! I use ableton alot, then Reason, and i'm starting to get into that Beathang(they still got alot of work to do!, But they sounds are off the charts) Do you have your own music page? or is it all reviews?

  • @THEOPHILUS1 I feel ya lol, nah I don't have a music page up

  • Yo, I had ableton for about a week now after watchin mad vids this is my favorite.

Im tryna figure out how to midi my MPC 500 to use it as a controller.

  • @damatrix thanks yo, if you got a midi interface just hook the midi out to the midi in of your pc, go into options/midi synch and choose the midi interface you are using, make sure it's turned on.

  • @SoundsAndGear well, I have a midi to usb joint im using now. I hooked up my fantom no problem, IM just tryna hook up my mpc500 for portability

  • @damatrix yeah, just have to make the proper settings in the mpc and make sure ableton is set to receive from your midi/usb device

  • ableton is the truth, like I said, I love both of them. Just depends on what I'm doing, but albeton can handle your pattern sequencing. With a dope controller, ableton is the truth, I like maschine because it's so integrated, but with a similar controller, like apc40 or launchpad, ableton is even more dope.

  • wow, that's a tough one man lol... Ableton is so much more mature than NI Maschine, but I get lost in making music much more in maschine.

It really let's me forget about the computer and just work, browsing and sequencing everything from the hardware.

If you just have a bunch of loops and samples mainly, then maschine can def do the job. I don't know where maschine is going, I'm hoping they move to allow us to actually load vst instruments in it.

  • To be truthful, I haven't opened ableton much lately, but that's just me. I also have a template I made in Reaper so I can use maschine to sequence vsts and such.

bottom line is these are my two favorite sequencing applications right now, so it's hard for me to pick one but at this point, for how I work, I'd say Maschine...that's just me. Keep in mind I would still have Reaper (60 bucks) for when I want to use vsts with it.

Live is definitely the more complete option of the two though.

  • Hey Saint Joe.

You using an MPD these days? like an MPD32, mpd + Ableton live = MPC.

Have you checked out the Akai APC40? its made just for abelton live. check it out.

  • Nah I'm not using an mpd, they look cool tho. I've seen the apc but haven't tried it yet.

  • you need to do some more tutorials on live homie

real talk i was skeptical about getting till fucked with the akai lite version and now i regret not buying this bad boy.

cause akai's version gives you a taste but not the full experiance

    keep up the good work

  • yeah yo! I got hooked on a lite version that came with my emu controller lol. You get most of the features just a lower track count and only use 2 vst instruments per project. But it's dope, and the way live resamples and all, you can easily build up a dope track and record your various vsts and such into loops lol.

  • Yeah, bruh, you opened up my eyes to how you use Ableton! I have the demo download, so now I know how to mess with it! You couldn't have explained it better!

  • Thanks yo! I just try to make it plain so we can use the technology without it getting in the way. I do all the lab testing and such to work out the easiest way to make music or use a tool then share it lol...glad to help! Trust me, you will get hooked on it.

  • I just found out it's pretty much what Del uses to produce.

  • cool, I really don't care who uses it lol..I just know it's dope and more people should be!

  • To SaintJoe: Judging by the previous comments I'd say you opened some heads up to Ableton Live. Me included. I have Live Lite7 installed and unused. I'm ready to give it a go.

To Ableton Reps: If you're listening give Joe some cold hard ca$h for doing your job (no LOL). Give and it shall be given/It's more blessed to give than to receive.

  • awesome man! Glad you liked it! Let me know if you have any questions. I think the looks of it put people off until it's explained in a way that makes sense...then like me, you wonder what took so long.

That's what got me hooked, love lite 7, it came with my midi controller. I didn't want to use any other daw after that lol.

  • live is truth, so simple once you understand the techniques. Props on the video straight to the point!!

  • thanks yo! I agree, it's the best!

  • Wow man, that's the first time I ever seen anybody show what live does rather than sit in front of a computer screen and talk about it or play a beat (same stuff you can do in anything else). I'm sure if there was more videos like this a lot more people would give it a try. I don't think I'll add this to my arsenal just yet (gotta pick up Kore and a Korg padKontrol) but at least I see that there is a "logic" to the way it's set up. Nice job again bro... Thanks!

  • Yeah man, I try to keep it practical, there's enough of the other videos around lol. I hear ya man, KORE is my joint! And I've heard great things about the pad kontrol. Glad you liked the vid man.

  • Live is the best

  • indeed man.

  • Oh MAN !!! I LOVe that. I got the demo here that goes for like 7 days or something like that. I am gonna try this . I like how you used it without the linear...good sh*t man...

  • live is a MONSTER for hardware heads man lol. It's the ONLY sequencer that "makes sense" and works how hardware folks are used to working. It's so quick man lol...I'm surprised more folks don't use it...if you come from a hardware sequencer like mpc, mv, asr, etc....live is the DAW to use lol.

  • Cool, I'll have to open up mine and check it out again!!!

  • yessir! it's CRAZY
