  • I enjoy watching this,.BUT..it's so friggin obvious how Moraz and White's performance and sound pale in comparison to Wakeman and Bruford's.

  • this is epic they look like led zeppelin or something i think prog rock was very big at the time shame a little moron called rotten would come along and fuck music up for ever he should have gone where he was ment to go prison where he could be tortured by being forced to listen to yes pink floyd focus camel and all the other bands from this time till he likes them

  • My favorite touring Yes configuration. Moraz was not defeated by Close to the Edge as Wakeman seems to have been by Gates of Delirium.

  • i want to say thank yuo, to Yes for yuor music, its the very best progressive in the world

  • I think Jon Anderson was just hitting puberty at about this time. : )

    Just Kidding he is great.

  • I get up, get downnnnnn....

    Godd times!!!

  • i neeed weed :D ^^ so fantastic

  • in some parts even better than the classic version. respect!

  • As good as Yes gets. Top form.

  • Ennnnnorme! Pour moi l'une de leurs plus belles oeuvres. Version live un peu tordue, mais j'adore.

  • Sounds anaemic compared to the original recording. The keyboards sound like Rolf Harris playing a stylophone.

  • YES ! Banda progressiva fantástica ! No meu ponto de vista, Yes tem fundamental importância na música mundial. . . DAMIÃO - Rio de Janeiro - Brasil

  • seriously, they need a camera on Squire's bass the whole time.

  • One thing I don;t like about this gig is that it is outdoors in the daytime. Yes needs it dark.

  • Alan White, one of my top 3 favorite drummer's. Just amazing! And every time you see him playing, he look's like he's having a blast !! Great band.

  • I'm always knocked out to here how other keyboardists interpret and play their solos, especially for the keyboardists in YES. I believe the keyboardist here is Patrick Moraz, and I'm glad to have seen this post, as I have never seen him play with YES. You can really hear the years of classical training when Wakeman plays his own solos. Not so much with Moraz, as I did enjoy Moraz's solo album, "i".

  • "and oh how they danced...the little children of stonehenge..."

  • @Putaspellonyou yeah, looking at the set and outfits I had visions of Tap....but, it was the 70s and the musicianship kicks ass.

  • TG1028, great post. Again. - who's on the drums here?

  • @bodoboi Thanks for watching! Alan White is on drums

  • @Tommygun1028 - aahhhh.... whatta dude on the skins. Remember seeing him with those crazy North drums on a revolving stage ('Going for the One' tour? Somebody please remind me here). As good as the others were, I was mesmerised by Alan's ferocious energy.... his right foot was permanently hovering on the bass drum pedal. Phenom

  • Keyboards are totally off key!

  • any reason why we don't have epic bands like this any more?

  • @gupsnot We do.

  • @BurningStarlV examples please?

  • @gupsnot The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, Coheed and Cambria, and The Dear Hunter come to mind when I think of "epic" bands. Although they might not be as technical as Yes, they're still very good progressive rock bands.

  • I agree that Wakeman was missed and is the better keyboard player, but all you people are truly dismissing Moraz's wonderful work on The Gates of Delirium. That record and Moraz's keyboard playing while is by no means Yes' best effort. It definitely stands out from all their other records

  • I'm sorry, but Rick Wakeman is clearly missed on the climax. Rick was part of the original chemistry that made Yes gell. Luckily I saw this piece performed live in Durham, NC in 1972. It was truely majical. The concert was the best I've ever seen. And I have seen a few. Take away Howe, Anderson and Rick and there is no Yes. I hate I missed the last US tour. I'll catch them next time around. Best group ever.

  • this is SO cool

  • Ci sono cose la cui bellezza è del tutto soggettiva, poi ci sono quelle indiscutibilmente belle. Close to the Edge è sicuramente una tra queste. E non è soltanto questione di punti di vista.

  • Yes

  • Wow TG! Thanks for this. I couldn't have had better seats and was delivered to a time I just couldn't have been. Fabulous!

  • Like stepping into a time capsule..Thanks.

  • I hve a new respect for Moraz after seeing this video. I haven't liked him compared to Wakeman before this. Close to the Edge is my favorite Yes album.

  • God that Alan White's drumming kills me. The hi-hat sound at 5:41 is amazing

  • @sebadrum16 Same here! i love where theres lots of cymbals in the mix! just how it should be

  • what is the name of this song?

  • AWESOME

  • Moraz was GREAT replacement with his amzing contribution on RELAYER - another amazing record. Rick's CTTE version ifeel like an institition but Pat does well here

  • thanks for this video, i've never seen Yes in concert. This video shows how good they were because the sound is almost as good as album.

  • Indeed, Patrick Moraz' solo is not as good as that of Rick W, unfortunately!

On the other hand I like the album Moraz did with Bruford ('Flags').

  • Yes.

A great video and performance...(here it comes.....) except for Moraz. I stopped being entranced with Yes after Close to the Edge, and picked up right where I left off with Going For The One. Alan White is equal to Bruford (except for slightly rushing the beat in live performances).

What's the deal with the swiss dude Moraz? He brought this whole performance down one full notch. ( I HATE Relayer...stupid bad jazz...).

Thank you for coming back in '77 Rick W!

  • Probably greatest prog rock work ever!

Has chaos at the beginning, great first chorus, orgasmic middle, and at end from heaven.

  • Without being too much of a muso there are two things never mentioned about yes which shouldn't be overlooked, they are Alan Whites great drumming/percussion and Chris Squire's great singing both on show here.

  • This version doesn't quite cut it, does it? Moraz's keyboard solo isn't a patch on Wakeman's original which was SO tight. The studio version is just one of the most perfect rock pieces of all time and anything else is going to look a little tame.

Still, nice to see the live version all the same. Thanks for the upload!

  • totally amazing!!!

  • Poopin' FANTASTIC! Great job, Tommy! This brings tears to eyes (and gives me HOPE!)

    LOVE IT!

  • THANKS BRYONJOHN, I THOUGHT I WAS HEARING THINGS ? SOUND'D LIKE CRASH CYMBALS ALL THE WAY BUT COULDN'T BELIEVE IT WAS HI HATS HE WAS THO HITTING HIS CRASH ON OFF BEAT TIMING. I STARTED YES BACK IN EARLY 72 AT A RECORD STORE BOUGHT 1,2,3, 4, ALL HAVE SOMETHING GREAT TO LISTEN TO.. LIGHTED SCENTED CANDLES, INCENSE, MAKING LOVE TO A BEAUTIFUL WOMEN ALL ADDED TO THE SCENE. A DRUMMER FROM IOWA I AM, STILL LOVE YOURS IS NO DISCRACE! RANDY

  • Immortal and great music

  • Great material, Tommy, thanks!

  • Great band, great music!!!

  • The greatest progressive band of the modern era. Wakeman is sadly missed in this era. He is without peer. My most treasured memory was 1973 concert at Festival Hall in Melbourne. I was in about row 6 center :). Thanks TG.

  • this should have 1000000 views

  • TOTALLy AMAZING!!!

I would like to get this DVD

  • website address is at beginning of video, more info in description box upper right as well

  • @KillingLies1

I had just brought it last month

    The audio quality is poor

But I think that the good energy the live had, make this DVD exceptional

  • Moraz sucked here...

  • I think his rendition of Close to the Edge is very good here, especially the organ climax. I think his version here has more feeling behind it than Rick Wakeman's in Yessongs.

  • Te performance is great, the voices are awesome, but Patrick's solos are too bluesy (and bad blues), very improvisated, without head or feet, the level of music creation is too low, he had mistakes and his sounds are very cheesie. This wasn't his night.

  • @Tommygun1028 Hate to bring up an old conversation, but Moraz is a real disappointment when you're expecting Big Rick. My favorite part of this song is the really quiet part at the beginning and the detailed keyboard work on the CTTE album (and live all the times I got to see it) This one had none of that. Sounded like a New York subway in the background. Sorry, but I have to agree Moraz is just no replacement for Rick.

  • @Tommygun1028 this is the first time I've heard/seen this concert here on YouTube. @plasticPlaystation this is one of my very most favorite songs by Yes. I happen to like the way Patrick plays this. I mean its not the studio version we all know so well. But none the less it still is amazing.

    Thankss Tommygun1028

  • Ouch! Completly out of tune.

  • @plasticPlaystation I agree. I never cared for the incarnation of Yes with Moraz. I always had more appreciation for the version of Yes with Wakeman. I was fortunate to see Yes many times, both with Moraz and Wakeman and always thought Wakeman the better performer.

  • Aww man, the vocals are awesome, but where the "church organ" kicks in just didn't have the same effect as it did on the record :(

  • It is so stupid that these asshole record companies have these clips removed. It's free advertising for these old bands. They all have seen an increase in back catalog sales because of Youtube. Hopefully, they will all go out of business. jerks....

  • Hola gente progresiva del planeta un saludo desde locombia perdón Colombia...choooo..

  • How come no one uploads cuts from Yessongs? 1973 Copyright WMG troubles? That's a kick-ass early Yes movie! Sort of their "song remains the same"

  • that's why - there used to be clips from Yessongs on Youtube but they were all removed. God knows how dangerous and bad it is for a band to upload clips of them from 37 years ago! Meanwhile all kinds of current musicians (no matter the genre) like Britney Spears, MGMT, NIckelback, The Fray, etc. all allow their videos to stay up and get millions of views. Go figure

  • Welcome back TG!! Good STUFF ! ! Kinda remind me of our other favourite musics... i.e. Early Genesis!!! Synths, great vocals, moog bass, and REAL MUSIC!!!!!! unlike the new cookie cutter stuff... Later dude, W0.

  • Thanks man,

    Thanks for stopping by!

  • To be more specific... YES with Patrick

Moraz! Close to the Edge touches my heart, deeply!

  • This is so cool Tommy! VERY COOL!

I LOVE IT! I never got to see this tour...

    I always loved RELAYER!

    BRIAN

  • is rick wakeman on keyboards??

  • It's Patrick Moraz

  • Thankx for the upload........enjoyed it.

  • Good to see your back. Looking forward to the Floyd DVD.

  • i really hope that WMG doesn't win the battle
