Im an American and i have a degree in history and i would say the majority of military conflicts since our inception have been preplanned "warhawk" driven conflicts used to tax people for a military build up. The United States did not lose the war of 1812. It was not a smashing victory either. It was a stalemate on both sides. The Treaty of Ghent established pre-war conditions with the exception that the British could not continue impressment upon American shipping and that the British stop supporting and inciting native american attacks upon american settlers.
although impressment was a reason to declare war, Britain stopped impressment after the Napoleonic wars were over in 1815....they didn't need them anymore. In terms of strategic goals, the US didn't achieve any of theirs, and although it was a stalemate technically Britain achieved more of their goals.
Having said that, I do not deny that some Americans at the time wanted to annex Canada into the United States. I however do not think it was a strong enough motivation to go to war with a nation as powerful as Great Britain, especially given our great military weakness and unpreparedness at the time.
Your view of the causes of the war of 1812 greatly overestimates the role of the prime minister of Britain and greatly underestimates the role of British impressment in reference to the causes of the war of 1812 as well as undermining other causes such as the violation of American neutrality by the British and French (under napoleon). That meant that the Rothchildes were in danger of losing control of our money supply if it wasn't renewed. They financed England to start a war with us in hopes that we would build up lots of debt and renew the charter for the bank and we did in 1816 when the war ended. This is what it was over the war wasn't over impressement. That's a cover.

They also supported and helped with Indian attacks on the colonists. I'm not saying either side is right or wrong (We were trading with Britain's worst enemy France and had just had war with them not long before, as ruler of an empire what would you do?.

You missed one major success of War of 1812. The was not just against the British but also against their Indian Allies. The Indians had formed multi-tribe alliances under the direction of Britain. In 1812 the Indians were a power to be reckoned with. The War of 1812 broke up their Alliances.

We are always on the brink of war because that is what is natural and has been the case for all of human history... but again we have achieved something amazing. The United States did not lose the war of 1812. It was not a smashing victory either. It was a stalemate on both sides. The Treaty of Ghent established pre-war conditions with the exception that the British could not continue impressment upon American shipping and that the British stop supporting and inciting native american attacks upon american settlers.

although impressment was a reason to declare war, Britain stopped impressment after the Napoleonic wars were over in 1815....they didn't need them anymore. In terms of strategic goals, the US didn't achieve any of theirs, and although it was a stalemate technically Britain achieved more of their goals.

Having said that, I do not deny that some Americans at the time wanted to annex Canada into the United States. Your view of the causes of the war of 1812 greatly overestimates the role of the prime minister of Britain and greatly underestimates the role of British impressment in reference to the causes of the war of 1812 as well as undermining other causes such as the violation of American neutrality by the British and French (under napoleon). You also never mention British support of native american attacks on american struggling settlers in the northwest territories as well as other places.

I agree with you completly a country is niether good or bad they are mearly reflections and biasies of their times. Slavery is a huge stain on the American Legacy but America did not start slavery (and although it was one of the last western countries to get rid of slavery it's ideals contributed to the riding of that historic blemish) it still has played a very promising role in history, and hopefully it can regain that role.
