I want to start BJJ here in the UK, anyone recommend any practitioners in the South West who would be worth learning under? Also I need to get physically fitter as I'm overweight. Any general advice would be greatly appreciated.
bjj is really good but you need to practice the technique over and over again,we saw it work for royce in the very first ufc, agaist guys 100 lbs heavier than him,why because what are the chances the guy you will fight knows bjj also, back in the days all those big guys got beat by the smaller royce cause they did not know what he was doin.still do not want to go to the floor with a bigger guy,i'll try to crush those nuts first !!.i know for fact a bigger guy is slower.
I'd still like to see a REAL match between a boxer and a grappler (like a BJJ martial artist) My money of course is on the grappler, but it would still be very interesting to watch.
@N1SHTIK3IT actually no im not. im really good at the arm bar and ive used it a lot. dont ask y im watchin. u shud know that ppl shud always go back to the basics.
Hahaha blue gi's horrible at showing this, white gi at 0:25 or something was just "HEY free triangle" but then "oh wait we're doing something else" and dropped it.
bjj is so complicated , started doing mma cant get the hang of ground fighting, im a boxer never done any thing like this, kos so much more exciting to watch
hey bro im just starting out mma, im a boxer aswell , havnet started to train but i think i chould go allright, have a jude background, are you in australia??
no hes not god damn if you gonna take bjj do your research just becuase he pretty much invented brazilain jiu jitsu and took to a whole new level doesnt mean he is the best he just has secret moves that nobody knows about
I've trained in BJJ and other martial arts(Hapkido, Kickboxing, wrestling) for right at 17 years..I've also Bounced in bars for years..many guys try to bite to get out of submissions..but it never works..it just makes the jiu jitsu guy mad and wanna hurt the guy even more!
In a real fight I have NEVER had a problem subduing people using basic jiu jitsu in REAL aggressive situations...
Biting and eye gouging are Spaz $hit that Kung fu guys tell themselves work to sleep better at night..lol
The only thing wrong with these videos is that they include the gui's into the moves. they should mention how to do it WITHOUT the gui. still good though
the most important goes from gorund up...wrestling, bjj, then boxing...if u can only box youll comeinto an mma fight , get put on the ground then submitted...if u can do bjj and wrestle but can box..all u have to do is play the ground game the whole fight
not true. wrestler will lose to a striker. bjj and striking could go either way depending on there skill. for example white belt vs chuck liddel or a black belt vs a guy who just started kickboxing.
A pure striker with no solid Jiu Jitsu training will lose almost every fight...
I started in Hapkido 17 years ago and competed in High level Kickboxing, I also trained BJJ..and I can tell you as a good striker and Grappler that Jiu Jitsu is the best and most efficient art for one on one fighting...it's been proven over and over and you would be depriving yourself by not learning and training BJJ..
This is coming from someone who is a good striker and have bounced in bars for years!
i agree with ya all the way ... I'm a fast and accurate strike but after learning brazilian jui jitsu i feel theres nothing or no one on the "street" that is not in the ring they are trained, but that i couldnt hurt to protect myself... its a good thing to learn absolute privelage if you let the mind learn bjj.. all them nerds from high school this is for yall !~ lol
@RobbieH02879 Hi Rob! How can I defend my family if I only know Jiu Jitsu. From what I observed that art is good for man to man combat. What if I am good at it and one day me and my wife gets hassled on the street. How can I defend her if Im busy on the ground with one of our attacker?
The fact is, if there are more than 2 guys that REALLY want to harm you, it doesn't matter what you know, there is a VERY good chance they will succeed... If you REALLY wanna be safe, get a CCW permit and carry a concealed handgun...
@RobbieH02879 Not even just Jiujtsu.. grapplers in general... Wrestlers may not know submissions but they can control you and ground and pound. and Judoka could do what Jiujitsu does. grapplers beat Strikers 9/10 times.
@RobbieH02879 I train Ju Jutsu and Kyokushin and Goju Ryu karate, I have had many street fights NONE of which have ever gone to the ground or ever needed the use of any locks. I'm strong and my hands are conditioned to hit hard objects hard. I know this is only my experience but I would avoid tying my arms up with the opponent unless I can guarantee it's one on one, and no mates will step in, also the ground may have hazards such as glass or even needles. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is not perfect.
@Chtyoah I would avoid the ground in a street fight, too much can go wrong. Other people can step in while your hands are busy and a hard dirty floor can be used against you. Grit can be thrown in your eyes or there maybe other hazzards, glass etc. If your strikes are not enough you can use locks as strikes/snaps and let go of the guy as quickly as possible. Personally, although I have trained for the ground eventuality in my ju-jitsu, I have found that my strikes have always been enough.
@darrenlad "avoid tying my arms up" is easier said than done, the other person would avoid letting you hit them.. avoid letting you stay standing up, avoid letting you stop them break you arms or legs, Brazilian jiu jitsu is more efficient than keeping your hands up and probly getting your nose or knucles broken in the process.. nothings perfect,
this, no questions asked. Wrestling and boxing are incomplete, since wrestling is not designed for free fighting and boxing is not designed for ground fighting at all. It is very difficult to try and keep a fight standing if your opponent wants to go to the ground. Once you are on the ground, pure wrestling is good for controlling your opponent, but it leaves you open to a variety of submissions. All three are useful, though.

These does seem easy, but applyed to a real life situation its quite hard to get, especially if you never trained Gracie Jiu-jitsu.

Seems easy but take into consideration the human reflex and survival instincts......

mostly true but there are some people who can win standing up like chuck liddel who has a good defense for take downs and machida who is hard to hit.

machida is also a bjj practitioner so mentioning him defeats ur argument's purpose here

I love the armbar because of it's simplicity and available variations. It is an easy eway to submit or finish an opponent.

gay thing about the armbar...is that its a very easy submission hold to block compared to every other submission hold
but other than that...there r many different ways of applying an armbar so the opponent mite not c it coming
