  • It looks like Montreal's track.

  • New Jersey comeback? Where is it? All I see is Christie getting a bigger head and his cronies getting fatter wallets. Come on man...you are a joke.

  • @hotrodmex, It is my understanding that NJ is not using tax revenue to pay the GP race fee and that the NJ cities will be reimbursed for their expenses. Texas on the other hand is using tax revenue transfered to the Major Events Trust Fund (METF) in hopes of reimbursement from wildly exaggerated projected increases in sales tax revenue.

In spite of beng the authority on what is subject to sales tax, the TX Comptroller committed to F1 based on its initial study including $1M sales tax on tips!

  • @hotrodmex, I said what I said and none of what you say I said. Yes, many F1 fans will travel the several hundred or thousands of miles but the vast majority of the 100,000+ will come from in state. Which is what I said. The British GP and the Montreal GP attendance studies prove this.

My point is that Texas is paying $250 million for a fraction of what NJ is getting for free.

  • NJ will reap some economic benefit from NY and other proximal out of state residents spending in NJ. But TX has committed to PAY $250 million for a GP that will be located so far from out of state residents that it will be primarily Texans recirculating their own money for relatively little net tax or other economic gain.

But Texas Gov. Perry is running for President, he needs Ecclestone et al to donate heavily. No wonder folks wanted Christie to run against Perry.

  • @lehmanck: It's hilarious to see people who think that there aren't RABID F1 fans in the United States that will be making the journey to Austin next year. The assumption that because the track is "so far from out-of-state residents" attendance will be limited to Texans is absurd. The event gives me a reason to travel there, and stay for a week (there are several days of track running durring these weekends...everybody not into motorsports knows this, right? Right?)

  • @lehmanck: Also, it is also hilarious to hear people refer to the Texas track a wasteful enterprise, being solely used for F1, when the truth is it will attract other racing series as well, from SCCA club racing to other Top Tier events like ALMS.

Texas isn't alone in the $250mil-for-ten-years price bracket. Every City that hosts a GP worldwide pays the same. Most of them are solvent, but some aren't. All comes down to how well the event is run.

  • hmm, the only reason for NJ host the F1 is the NY skyline ....

  • god dam! cant wait. Watching the F1 cars going past the New York skyline.

  • This has classic written all over it!!! The best decision Bernie Ecclestone has made in a very long time. I personally do not think it will detract from Texas because the nature of the tracks are so incredibly different but the thought of a New Jersey, Montreal back to back F1 trip is very appealing:)

  • I havnt visited America and was thinking of going to texas next year but man, a new york race is gonna be awesome an i might just save for that extra year and visit one of the greatest citys in the world and watch my favourite sport in the world.

  • @HULKHODGY, yea u may want to hold off on the Texas idea. Looks like we may have to drop that race. Im a New Yorker myself, you will love it here. Alot more to do and visit outside of just watching the race.

  • @zk92000 Yea looks like im not gonna be left with much of an option now but my mind was pretty much set anyway, theres so much more to do in new york than there would be in texas. theres so many landmarks to visit it would just be the perfect place to propose (although i think my girlfriend wants a proposal sooer than 2013). I could even head down south to florida with the year extra id be saving, really does have much more options to it than texas!

  • I've been to The Pocono and Dover NASCAR Races and I would love to see the F1 race in New Jersey!

  • Know your history? Think Rome...as it was failing as a previous great REPUBLIC...the sheeple were distracted with 'circus' events. If one can truly believe there is a recovery, not just for our state, but for our nation, you are stuck in what is termed the matrix...or normalcy bias for the less technical. The world you see today is going to evaporate before your eyes...like your hard earned wealth...and soon this greatest source of truth will follow down the rabbit hole. Good luck, aware ones.

  • Keep it in North Jersey, we in South Jersey don't want the garbage, but you're still cool gov.

  • sellout

  • This is awesome!!!!!!!!!!! We're getting a F1 GP here in Texas next year. So excited!

  • Just as long as we didn't pay for it I'm happy.

  • Any governor has as part of his or her job description to promote their state economy in any way possible. They are the spokesperson for their state and for them not to be the lead, is what many criticize as being an "absentee" politician. Just look at our President and his fondness for visiting and promoting green energy companies. Or is that "different"? Obama's campaigning, Christie isn't.

  • Why are you sticking your nose in this you had nothing to do with this. Go on your Israel trip and stay there

  • @garak99 - Awww u didn't get your hand out from the State and now your pissed. He's the best Governor in the State EVER. Standing up to Right Wing nut jobs and Left Wing pansies. We would be SOOO lucky if he ran for President!

  • @Fuscoooo Christie is scared to sit down and negotiate anything with the state workers and judges that is BS he wants what he wants and wants to hear nothing. In fact right this minute Al Sharpton is talking about 4,000 police lost there jobs in NJ because Christie will not tax millionaires put in 25 Years to qualify for a state pension part of that agreement was for a COLA after 2 years I was due for my 1st next month I am not getting it now b/c of Christie did not negotiate that with me

  • @garak99 - U have a state that's broke do to BS spending from previous Left Wing Governors and the BS programs and handouts. It's almost like a pyramid scam! So the answer is to tax MORE on the business owners and companies WHO BRING IN JOBS! Cut the BS spending and handouts for POS who don't want to work!

raise taxes on business and people who made their money is BS!

    accountability....

  • @garak99 - On top of that u realize the teachers union pay ZERO towards health insurance. ZERO not a damn penny!

  • @Fuscoooo And you are jealous of teachers ? The fact that they pay 0 for health insurance was negotiate in contracts talks every worker in every job can discuss it with there employers if you don't get it STRIKE bring that employer to his / her knees. I for one believe in Universal Healthcare a 10-12% National GST tax to cover everybody with Healthcare. Finally a question 1-What is more important a companies Bottom line or Workers salary & benefits 2

  • @garak99 - We live in a democracy, companies want profit over everything else. It's the responsibility of the employee(s) to work and market themselves to that company to make the indispensable. Therefor leading to a healthy living. You work hard, perform well, you will enjoy a good living. U work half ass, expect hand outs and do nothing to improve yourself professionally......u become one of the 99% looool.

...not everyone can be rich or wealthy.

  • @Fuscoooo Don't get me going when you get a corporation that gives a CEO a 20M bonus then tells a secretary or a custodian we can't afford to give you a 2% raise THAT IS WRONG and must change one way or the other you can give that CEO 15M and give the secretary or a custodian a years salary as a bonus. What do you think Occupy Wall Street is all about ? the gab between rich and poor If you choose to call that Socialism so be it The People will win The Revolution has started

  • @Fuscoooo No but we can close that gap if you bail out banks and auto companies you can bail out people with mortgages I looked do you have a You Tube page ?

  • @garak99 - I agree with you on that, we should have NOT bailed out all the banks especially not the Auto Makers. BUT some banks had to be bailed...they were "To Big to Fail" looool.

Yes I have a YouTube page...but its geared more towards family and friends.
