One example is what we have done by selectively breeding dogs for certain preferred traits which is called artificial selection. Look at the difference between a chihuahua and a great dane. They both have wolf ancestors but you can't tell. The point here is the fact that they wouldn't be able to breed because of their physical differences.

That is what happened on the Galapagos islands where Darwin found the different varieties of finches and other birds. They were all similar finches but had different beaks because of the different seeds on each island. If you consider micro-evolution that I described with the dogs, then add a couple million years and there you go. It's a fairly simple concept.

@spartan177saber The timescale is totally different, all the dog varieties can interbreed because they haven't had time to genetically drift apart yet, give it a few million years and they will become much more different. How do you know humans and other apes cannot hybridise? The opportunity has never been there (thankfully) and if it is impossible to hybridise humans with other apes then that just means we've genetically drifted apart.

There have been other "advanced" primates, but as climates changed we adapted while the other advanced primates did not, therefor our species continued while theirs died off... In this case it wasn't so much "survival of the fittest" but "survival of the smartest".

@sethblatt If you go out into the wild (reality) you won't find apricot and plum trees growing everywhere. I think you'll find most fruits are very hard to find and don't taste very good at all. All the fruits you see in the supermarket that "God" made for you have actually been altered by humans... That's not to say you can't take a bite and be blown away by how beautiful it tastes and how lucky you are to be able to have such a magnificent experience while others are dying of starvation.
