  • Music only becomes a contest to the immature. To the true music lover it is and always will remain pure listening pleasure.

  • Great vid...thanks for posting.

  • Tal & Oteil... great to watch. They let the sun shine even at night... thank you for sharing.

  • I dont care if tal is 16 or 61 she a great bassist...and oteil is also great and has a great voice. If u cant respect this music then go listen to some soulja boy or somethin.

  • awesome!!!

  • who the fuck is the other mic supposed to be for? unless they're gonna break out a step ladder for tal.

  • oteil is a great musical voice!

  • artists and musicians know how good these people are never mind neg comments..ignore them all amazing , gifted players...from a fellow drummer

  • if there was any doubt that tal can play direct your attention to 3:28 clearly you were mistaken.

  • pretty good audio for a phone recording.

  • welcome to youtube...... the land of no opinion!

  • well come to youtube...... the land of no opinion!

  • Wow, just awesome. Well, you have to like Jazz music or have a good musically aducated ear to really hear "everything" the music is about, Jazz is not allways strait, in tune, harmonic or smoth, so please stop talking shit about this song sucks. Tal really rawks and she is just a little girl... Can you do better, well in that age...?

  • OTEIL THE BEST !!!!!

  • Amazingly good playing from both!!!

  • So Beautifully Cool!!! I believe her awesome style and taste is true from within. She's got the talent to present it and the appreciation to hang on to it.. I've only been listening to her for the past half hour and I'm hooked. I wonder if she found the music or did musical influence conceive her?

  • Man this was sick.

  • She has almways a smile on her face, she's probably her old soul full of grace keep on rockin' sweet Tal !

  • she held her own, but Oteil is the bad man on bass. for my money he is the one.

  • Erase the singing and you've got no top: the vocals fill it out; it's fine: Get off your computer and go practice and I'll do the same: I guarantee u both these two are playing somewhere while we're watching them do their thing. Both killin'

  • Tal plays bass like a parrot who is copying riffs she has gathered from the Jaco wanna be school of hacks. If she was an old fat dude people's comments would be "get that loser off the stage".

  • @slap70s You are a Complete Moron!! Just stating the obvious. This girl has an incredible sense of timing, sense of harmony, and holds a great pocket. So to disrespect a player of this caliber, regardless of if she's a pretty girl or an old fat man, you are, in fact a complete moron. You should probably go and practice until your this good.

  • @rocknrollhoochiekoo1 Get some ears fool. She has a lot to learn, and she won't listen to advice from real players. When you know her as I do, and you have been on as many albums as I have then judge me. No matter what you do, you will still need those ears.

  • @slap70s Hey man sorry for the strong language. I don't know who you are and I shouldn't be judgemental like that. What's your name? I'm just implying that for 24, she's definitively got something. And yes being a women does help her out a little bit, I'm sure, but I still believe she's got some killer chops, regardless of if she is a women or not. And if you look at the most profound players, you still hear their influences no matter how creative they get, Even with people like Stan Jordan

  • @rocknrollhoochiekoo1 I will give her that, and thanks for being cool. I first met her at NAMM when she was 16, and tried to offer her some advice on getting work in L.A. and a foothold in the music industry. I had been a studio musician here for 20 years back then, and thought she could use some guidance. She was rude, and had an ego a mile wide. In all of the years I have known her since, she has never learned humility. Totally two faced, but she is a good self promoter.

  • @slap70s ( 'but she is a good self promoter. ')

you on the other hand are NOT !

There's probably still a spot left in rehab for you .

Who's licks did you 'steal' from?

  • @rknrne I agree she is a ruthless self promoter. How do you know anything about me? I have been in the music industry for over 30 years, and got where I am from legit chops and the ability to groove. I never dissed anyone, or stabbed other players in the back to get ahead. When you have been a first call studio musician in Los Angeles for three decades, then you can try to school me. Until then, keep your thoughts to yourself when you have absolutely no first hand knowledge.

  • @slap70s *Yawn* ...I..I..I..I (I would have walked away too!)

' I never dissed anyone, or stabbed other players in the back' (until now)

There's an old phrase that goes something like 'what if you know everything but no one wants to listen to you'

Your comments are selfish and hurtful

and do nothing to promote your own personality.

btw HaHa145 What an awsome video...

2 pros doin what they are supposed to do ...

...................shut up & play your guitar..........

  • @slap70s Wow - 3 decades and still in the same place doin the same thing, you must be very proud. Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not sure what a first call studio musician is but I'm thinking it's when a studio calls you to fill in some background repetition beats for someone elses album? If thats the case, please pat yourself on the back again for your ability to pump out some real musical originality.

  • @wannarockher When you have the slightest clue as to who the real musicians are who provide the true creativity in the studio or on the stage, then we can have an intelligent conversation. A first call musician is the guy they call to come in to create the right feel, bass line, hook, or whatever it is that can make a song into something more. That player has the creativity to do that for the songwriter and producer quickly, efficiently, and better than anyone else.

  • @wannarockher Talk to me in 30 years and let's see if you are still in the music industry, or if you have had to become a desk jockey accountant with no hope of creating anything. For all I know, you are already that disgruntled Wal Mart employee who has come to the grim reality that he does not have enough talent to fulfill his dream of being the next Britney Spears.

  • @wannarockher By the way, when you dis studio musicians, you are basically spitting in the face of Nathan East, Alex Al, Chuck Rainey, John Pattitucci, Anthony Jackson, Neil Stubenhaus, Mark Egan, Nate Phillips, and about 1000 other guys. How you can be calling these guys losers for being session players illustrates exactly why you do not know what you are talking about.

  • @slap70s Your comments here just show a jealous, envious breed of crass attacks that have no foundation here or anywhere. If you were such a great guidance and had any ounce of humility, you would have just shut the hell up about this and moved on. But no, you continued to berate this girls personality and playing because, again, you are some studio hack who never got a chance to do what they really wanted and have nothing better to do than slag a person for playing with their idols.

  • @slap70s please post video of your amazing skills I need credentials to entertain such ridiculous statements

  • I find it amazing as, I have posted elsewhere, that people dont find Tal a good or formidable on stage with prople such as,Otiel,Vic W,Marcus M,Steve Bailey....She has played with them all as well as High end Guitar players,we all know who that is,which should tell you something.Ask all those I have mentioned and I dont think there answers will surprize you.....Excellent work!!!Great groove vid!!!

  • This is an amazing video.... And there's always gonna be that unpleasant ppl that are going to find everything wrong... Don't listen to them, if they think they are so good they better prove it, otherwise stop making negative comments about stuff you don't really know about!!

Thanks for the great video Haha145!!

  • @elbettto Thanks

  • Two of the most amazing bassists in the world on the same stage and sound just magical together. I don't think that either was over highlighted nor imbalanced. Tal and Otiell are both my bass heros (well, MM is as well, along with a number of others, but that's a different post). Please don't disrespect them and their performances.

  • Good stuff! Thanks for posting it.

  • as a reasonably accomplished classically-trained jazz vocalist and a moderately seasoned guitarist, I will assure you that Otiel's bass/mouth unison is NOOOOO easy feat, at least as far as how exquisitely precise and in tune he is with EVERY NOTE!!! It gets to the point that it's hard to tell if its more impressive that he can play what he sings or that he can sing what he plays. Either way, he's a national treasure, and we should all be grateful for the music he's given us. JUSTLISTENANDENJOYIT

  • @harpua9000 AMEN

  • 01:46!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tal W rocks.

  • This woman is sooooo good on the bass anyone who thinks different must not be a good musician I'm a bass player a trust me she ranks with the best. She grooves and she hold down the pocket whenever she's plays and whoever she plays with

  • This woman is sooooo good on the bass anyone who thinks different must not be a good musician I'm a bass player a trust me she ranks with the best. She grooves and she hold down the pocket whenever she's plays and whoever she plays with..

  • Warsel - You dope! It's not "high up singing", it's scating which he is copying with his bass. Maybe if you think George Benson it will make it easier for you. Do you play? It is no small feat to be able to sing EXACTLY what you are improvising.

  • @furst2b1 It is not so special to sing what you play - I can do it and I am not at any level worth listening to. And he IS singing in the high register so "high up singing" kind of covers it for me well enough.

Maybe you should re-read my original post and figure out that my comment was "I don't like his style" and not "he sucks" before going on a rant.

  • @Warsel - first i want to apologize for the personal insult. i read this morning what i wrote yesterday and was sorry for it. at the same time i will say i also can scat but not at the level of speed and accuracy Oteil can. my guess is you can't either or i would be listening to your records. peace man, and keep on playing.

  • @furst2b1 no problem

  • I get so tired of Oteil and that singing. Its ok every now and then, but come on man. He did that crap ALL the time at The Vic Wooten Bass camp... Reggie was going to slap him across the face, but Rudy talked him out of it.

  • @gunthervinson at least I'm not the only one getting annoyed by this. I am sure he is the greatest nicest guy, but that singing to high-up notes mixed with odd chords I could go without :)

  • @Warsel - Oh yeah, "odd chords"!!! why are you even listening to jazz. There is nothing even that far "out" in this clip. You should stick to 4/4 3 chord rock. You have the ear of a troll.

  • mmmmmmm that was tasty

  • Say what you want, this is fonky

  • Good Lord this is nasty groovy.

  • Ok. When she first came out, she was good. Nice chops, groove, good. But this is an example of what happens when you play with awesome musicians. She's KILLIN'. And that's not even talkin' about freakin' Otiel! This is just funky on all levels. Then on top of that, they had the nerve to put Chaun Horton on drums...omg.

  • Thanks for the post.

    Great Performance, thanks!

  • She's playing a REAL bass=4 string

    I love those solo's where they don't ticky-tack around on a 6+ string....

    Play that real shit Tal

  • @CoachG1000 - agree I hate most 6 string bass players

  • Funky groove , in da pocket for real

  • Great Response. 100% spot on

  • Essa menina toca demais....acompanho a algum tempo.

  • what do you care whether she turns her back .. she's probably not thinking about that, she's thinking about music. if you can play as solo's as good as Tal, then you're getting somewhere.

  • she can turn her back wherever the fuck she wants....this girl can lay down the stank like no-one. love her!

  • Why'd she turn around during her solo? I mean, the back side's nice, but that's not where the action is happening!

  • That's a misconception, sir; there's plenty of action in the back, giggity-goo.

But, seriously, you're right; a solo bassist should NEVER turn their back to the audience.

  • should never turn their back to the audience? I had no idea there was stage etiquette of music...Last time I checked you dont need your eyes to listen to music.

  • miles davis played with his back to the audience at some of his shows and he is one of the greatest soloists of all time

  • I enjoyed this. I really appreciate what each bassist brings to the table regardless of who it is. I like Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Oteil, Hadrien Feraud, Ron Carter, Tom Kennedy and others.

  • Oteil would not see it that way.

  • Oteil wound not see it that way...........

  • Tal isn't the most skilled bass player to come along, but she's got enough skills to allow her to create melody and rhythm in ways that those of us that aren't "hating" and aren't "your nigga" and also residing on "Gods Green Earth" hear with our OWN ears quite clearly thank you. I've seen her with Wayne Krantz in NYC at Bar55 (very small bar), and she absolutely hypnotized the audience while Krantz wanked on and on. Her solo on Thank You Faletinme Be Mice Elf Agin highlights her amazing flow.

  • Come on, the girl is 23!! I'm expecting great things from her.

  • I dn't think so ,cause she is quite young and i think she starts playin bass at 16 or 17.She is always gettin better!!!and better.Heyyy she dn't play with the best for nothing!!!!

    ]

  • Is Oteil playing a WArWICK bass?

  • Man oh Man, that Tal is one FOXY & FUNKY young lady !!!!!

  • Amazing video.

  • oh what i wouldnt give to have a night out with tal.

she's definately on the list of top 10 bass players.

    5/5

  • Nothing worse than reading post by doucebags who argue over who is a better musician as if you're going to win some fucking prize. There is plenty of room in the world that holds plenty of stages for plenty of great musicians to showcase their talents. Shut the fuck up and enjoy the music!

  • Budz73

    Agreed.

    Those who can, do.

Those who can't, talk shit about those who can.

  • Ditto!

  • I agree with bumbaluv. This isn't the Olympic Games, for Christ's sake. It's MUSIC! You know, I've never heard oboe players argue over whose the fastest or who's got the most chops. Only guitarists and bassists. It's just really WEIRD! If you guys did half as much practicing as you do arguing we might actually get to see some of you on stage tearing it up.

  • I know you were trying to be funny, but I actually have heard oboe players argue like that LOLOL!! I agree with you though.

  • LOL, I knew just as soon as I said that I'd regret it! (LOL) I'm glad that you feel what I'm saying. Guess it's no surprise, though. I've known a few Classical musicians in the past and, now that I think about it, they were definitely as full of themselves as they were full of shit!

I'm a guitarist so you can imagine how much of this kinda flak I've heard over the years. If these knuckleheads practiced half as much as they argue, we might actually get to to hear them tear it up someday!

  • PF149 - do you ever shut up?

  • too phunky

  • Tal and Meshell are two great musicians who can BOTH groove their asses off. Since when did music become a competition; quit the BS and just enjoy the clip...shit...

  • When i post this video, i didn't expect all the negative comments. If Oteil or Tal wants me to take this video down, send me a message and i will take it down.

  • Trust, yours is pretty light compared to some others unfortunately.

  • umm I wouldnt say all that. Im a Tal fan, but shes not FAR more superior than Meshell. Meshell's been killin it for the past ten yrs. and is a well known bassist. Both of them are great.

  • Music is not a sport.

  • Get a life, man. Not many bassists can get up there and play with the greats. Stop hatin' on Tal!

  • Otiel gave up his Fodera for a Warwick???

    DISGRACEFUL..

  • Man Tal W. played with Jeff Beck and Vinnie C. and Chick Corea after beeing 6 Year learning on the Bass she´s very Good

I like that she really seems to have Fun when she´s on Stage

And her Debut CD is Great Wayne Krantz on Guitar and Keith Carlock on the Drums there

I cant wait until she practiced more and developed her playin and makes her new CD hopefully in 2009 or early 2010

  • Man both these bassists are awesome!!!!! Oteil with his Benson like bass style and tal's victor/Marcus style sound so great together!!! All the people who said anything negative on this playing is just a hater who has no idea what he is talking about. Tal plays with Vinny Colaiuta and Jeff Beck And her compositions on her debut album were great very advanced stuff so stop hating start practicing bro.

  • Listen folks, when i post this video, i never thought i would hear all this negative crap. Oteil and Tal are both great players, please keep all the comments positive...

  • She's sure knows how to groove, I love her playing. Chrispoppie...never heard of you, you twat.

  • You know, I hadn't heard of her until tonight...stumbled on this clip from another thread...but whoever is saying she can't play, um, you don't really know what you're talking about. Probably about 3 players on earth who could steal the stage from Oteil, so this is not a truly fair comparison. But she's a charging player, no doubt about that.

  • Chris...Who cares about your pedigree....you could play better than her...but your not on youtube makin me feel good right now. By the way dummy...your profile says your 19.

  • I've never heard of YOU...

  • Hey chrispoppie, don't believe anyone mentioned the word "worship". :) Fact is, she's just good no matter what her age or gender. She's a naturally gifted player and charismatic entertainer. Noone's sayin she's the best in the world, but she IS really good. Curious about where ya squeezed all this amazing stuff in that you claim you did, considering that according to what you put in your profile puts you at about 20 years old. So where can we find some of your stuff to sample?

  • Just quote me on this Mr. Lars:

"Tal has jammed with more legendary musicians live than you ever will (and probably more than I ever will), so your opinion is irrelevant."

    Now go away... geez. :|

  • actually untrue

  • how about; miles davis, herbie hancock, george benson, george duke, chick corea. need more?

  • Dude, if you're gonna keep hating on Tal with every new video posted of her, while saying that musicians she has already jammed with "own" her, you are 100% pure fail.

You're making her look good. LOL.

  • This just in, apparently "larsknudson" has at least 4 different accounts, and a history built around insulting Tal and any other girl bass players on at least 4 accounts.

Check it out for yourself. XD

Dude seriously needs to seek help. :(

  • just calling it like I see it, my friend.

  • she's really not doing anything.

  • sounds like she's is in nice groove

  • "larsknudson", that's because you are apparently tone deaf, and without feel... (and/or jealous).

She has jammed live with some of the best bass players and musicians in the world already, so your opinion isn't going to count for much anyway...

  • is that chaun horton on the kit? i got to play with him once at a clinic he did in rochester

  • i could listen to this all night...with koolaid in one hand and stogey in the other

  • its easy to sit on your fat ass behind a computer and criticize. would you say that bullshit to her face? no...she plays from heart and can rip it.

  • Yeah she sucks....That's why Vinnie Coliauta LOVES playing with her. And hand picked her to play with Jeff Beck.

Easy on the hating. Not a thing wrong with what she does.....

  • maybe she's overrated in comparison to pro players with at least twice her age and experience, but look at where she is ability-wise for the time she's been playing. Can you deny the incredible talent and ability she has? Before I think to criticize or comment negatively on someone elses playing, I always ask myself how would I stack up? So how would YOU stack up if you EVER got the chance to play along side the players SHE'S shared the stage with?

  • I can't get enough of Oteil! Not always a fan of his singin, but most of the time it rocks. Tal is definitely holding down some serious groove and was not out played or otherwise, she's up there mainly on merit and she will get better. The hatin' is getting tiresome.

  • I agree with bigwm, she's where she is on merit, alone.

Not just any really good bass player can sit in with the bands she's played with (and improve every bass line cover that she plays), I don't care HOW cute you are...

She's playing with these guys because of her sheer ability and talent.

  • she's not 'cute' anyway, so that theory is silly.

  • Did you actually just type that? Wow. Find another hobby, you aren't good at this one. :/

  • you've bought into the hype. It's ridiculous.

  • Listen to her solo from 2:38..

  • Tal is great, but here was so so. Lost the groove a couple of times in the beginning. And just on skill and musicality Oteil completely smoked her big time. But she'll get there in 10 years or so.

  • Wilkenfeld is killin but nobody is saying anything about Otiel who's tearing the shit UP!

  • She is amazing .

  • I'm sorry , but I have never like the whole "sing and play thing".

So you know what you are playing and can sing the same notes, so what? It sounds infinitely better without it. I definitely appreciate the fact that you actually know what you are going to play, but I get it. I wish you would just play it.

  • I cant do either so im minus 2 :(

  • idk, i guess it has a different sound to it when they do that. it's like soom goofy chorus effect or something.

  • It's not genius, it's straight out FUNKY!

  • This is NOT beginner level. You're just too musically naive to hear that it's pure f@*king genius. I guess you're not a bass player.

  • i AGREE WITH YOU MAN

  • pfff , see more videos of her

she really is from another planet

you don´t have the integence and the heart to recognize a good musician

  • Beginner, huh? How long have you been at it then?

  • 1:49!!!!!!

  • what was so significant at 1:49?

  • oh no it stopped, I want more

  • Tal is so fuckin hot and she plays bass..

  • so cool !

    amazing !

  • Sick, so sick! I'm going to see Tal with Jeff Beck soon...can't wait!

  • where?

  • ridiculous.....tal can throw down!

  • Tal got that bass thumping.

  • what kind of bass is oteil playing??

  • Its a 6 string Warwick{Streamer I think}

  • It's almost as tall as her...

  • There's an infinite supply of performers. Musicians who can PLAY MUSIC are in short supply.

  • I agree. She's an excellent bassist, very solid groove, but she should be facing the crowd when soloing, express yourself and communicate using your music talent and skills. My opinion.

  • Wrong. It's a Sadowsky.

  • yuck !!!! wat a cheap groove youve' got.....

  • I wonder what Oteil would do if he wasn't allowed to play augmented or sus chords...seriously, it gets old.

  • haha thats pretty true. but i love that mofo.

  • He would still be OTEIL..... Play that thang O..... (lol)

  • grrroooovvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

  • I reeeeeally want to be playing the drums here.

  • Oteil's playing a warwick?! Tal's amazing.

  • that's not a warwick. it's a fodera.

  • they must have changed their headstock design then. The tunning keys are tilted toward the body just like a warwick's would be and the top of the headstock has that warwick wave to it.

  • That IS a WARWICK. Oteil plays Fodera, but in this video it's a Warwick. The body style is clearly a Streamer.

  • I knew I was right on that one. Thanks for the back-up.

  • You can see why Tal was voted best bass, as for lightweight shes on the up and catching fast, when you work with the best and enjoy it speaks to my ears.

  • Tal is groovin as always!

  • It's nice to see these players enjoying themselves. I've always thought highly of Oteil. I can't wait until I get Jimmy Herring's new solo album with Oteil and Kofi.

  • Oteil is killing it but Tal just can't hang with the big league

  • She's doing fine. Keep on, young lady. Tremendous.

  • Honestly, i don't see what she's doing wrong. She can hold a groove and the solo was prett
