  • @bezkingAdmins I think you mean Bob Weir. And that's a fact.

  • there willnever ever be anything like these guys

  • I love Brent's solo on his B-3 AWESOME!!!!!

  • Every day with Jerry was a day of fun, a day of love, and a day of some damn good rock and roll+! Miss you fat man, thanks for the memories...

  • Go BRENT GO

  • This song is how I got my name! <3

  • @iyamarilovegaara Aiko, that is so cute that it is beyond cuteness! God bless you, Dear. (And that's coming from an atheist) I was at this show, by the way, and I was 9 years older THEN than you are NOW. Peace, Love, Grateful Dead, Dear. May all your wishes come true. Your post really made me smile.

  • Smiling Jerry makes my heart happy :)

  • talkin bout HEY NOW!!!!!!!!!

  • Jerry, Bob, Phil, Mickey, Bill and Brent were at one of their peaks in 1987. The shows were really fun, and it was a great escape from the toils of everyday life.

I miss the band playing live, this is the next best thing :)

    Aiko-Aiko all day!

  • Woo hoo! Makes me wanna wash my back with a rag on a stick. Wait right there, I'll find us some fresh road kill and we'll have ourselves a BBQ ;P

  • saw a record number of shows that year.....gabe managed to pull two blank ticketmaster tickets out of the ticketmaster dispenser at his job.....pulled out the rusty ole typewriter and filled in the info ourselves.....great show....right in the backyard....brent was on a good one....rip gabe, jerry and brent

  • Shoots brah. Except Jack Johnson sucks da kine. Aloha.

  • they speaking hawaian right? it sounds like jack johnson when he talks...

  • @portraitphenomenon "Iko Iko" is a much-covered New Orleans song that tells of a parade collision between two "tribes" of Mardi Gras Indians.

  • Bobby can wear whatever he wants........all that meat and no potatoes.....

  • Uh what's with Weir wearing the Madonna shirt/???

  • Nice intro again that Mexican girl sitting on the shoulders. I love you!!!

  • Makes Me wanna SHAKE MY BONES!

  • Epic!.. Thank you so much for posting

  • There is a hole in my world without the ability to go see Jerry

  • Dead Ahead

  • HEY NOW !!!! Glad I had a chance to tour around and be a part of the carnival in the 80's and happy to find some great 80's shows on Youtube. FUN TIMES indeed !!

  • Yes I was there too and since the acoustics suck so bad at Anaheim Satadium this video is almost better. Too bad we can't see some of there Dlyan. There are two copies of Terrapin Station from this but of course they don't fit under the time limit

    Augy San Diego

  • Loving Phils Mandala tie dye :D

  • nice madonna shirt- only wier can get away with that AND wear his daisy duke plum smuggling cut offs-man i miss these shows-even the bad ones- and there were some bad ones, but even the worst dead show can be quite a fun on account of all you fruitcakefreaks out there! thanks for the good times!

  • SMILE PEEPS. AMEN

  • SUNSHINE.

  • bobby's madonna shirt is great

  • Fuck me. had to be born in 94 missing 2 decades of great shows bands and times. Dont get me wrong, I love and am greatful for bands like phish now-a-days, but im just pissed I wasnt around for this great live music.

  • Jerry fucking smokes this shit right of the park................

  • This was my first show too - traveled from CT to get there - biggest smile on my face right now - nothin' left to do but that I suppose :) :) :)

  • I was at this show, the Dylan part was not good at all and the overall stadium experience was weak. That said, I would go back in time in a minute to experience it all again!

  • this is one of those songs (for me) where Phil's base stands out nicely.. I think many times people (not many Deadheads) kind of leave Phil out of the picture- always concentrating on Jerry (of course) and Bob... The drums and Phil's base, are the foundation that the rest of the music is built upon. Also- out of all the keyboardist's they had, hands down Brent was the best. Best playing, best voice and added SO much to the band....

  • Apparently you are too much of a hater to understand or appreciate the love that fueled the Dead Head community.

  • I get that this is a huge piece of positive nostalgia for a lot of people, but to me it's just a depressing puzzle piece representing a larger picture of a neglect-filled childhood. Deadheads are simply a waste of space, a subset of hippies who are too busy with their fleeting, drug fueled musical encounters to care for the children their couplings spawn.

  • @marfase6 you obviously need to catch one and relax about what you think everyone else is doing or did......moron

  • BRENT!!! <3

  • Such a big sound! These guys are on fire!

  • Such a big sound!

  • 5:33 you see that guy jumping? thats me

  • Hey now! 6/23/96 RFK was first show. That day changed my life! Love the Dead and all related to it

Have 3 Further Shows coming up!

    The Music Never Stopped

  • HEY NOW BRENT :) :) :)

  • hmmm it looks like 2 people need their tail set on fire ^^

  • Did the chances of a Aiko Aiko second set opener increase if there was a broken arrow in the first set?

  • terrible cover. instruments arent bad, but do they even try to sing?

they shouldve just let Jerry do his thing. seems like he has the best voice for this song anyway.

  • Sunday 09/02/1972 Folsum Stadium Univ of Colo in Boulder The Dead started playing at 12:30pm 1 of their most historic performances followed from about 12:30pm until 5:30pm (with 2 breaks) switching to Acoustic through a thundersorm & back to Electric with 'Here Comes The Sun' when the Weather Cleared BEAUTIFUL ^ MYSTICAL 3 hang-glider pilots flew into stadium during 2nd set The RoadCrew threw 30lbs of ganja into audience:) 1 of their (known) "Weather Event" shows entheogen day
  • At 2:11-2:22 Jerry pulls another sublimity out of his hat. The end is musicality. Technique and knowledge are necessary but insufficient means to get there. If it's not in the heart, it ain't comin' out in the fingers.

  • tasty smooth version. they made it thier own.

  • man I love 87-90 dead. Not the best dead, but the dead that was going on as I came to love the band. someone commented that there were very few good dead shows after brent died. Sadly, I agree. What we see here is an imperfect, always enjoyable, and sometimes just plain sick version of the dead. thanks

  • Jerry is only 45 here..........not looking so good.......that goddamn smack will get you everytime........

  • @andy23822 he looks 65, poor man...

  • Time to take a leak or grab a beer.

  • this makes me hate that i was born in 88

  • @TheMitchymitch13 oh yeah, i was born in '96....

    :(

  • brent mydland ripping

  • cheers everyone, enjoy the music.

  • Jerry is looking pretty freaking happy i think he was still getting off on cheating death, and really the spring of '87 was pretty tight as far as the late '80's go but that energy only lasted until the fall of '89 east coast tour, when bralove put those horrid midi sounds and the beginning of the end was upon us..When brent passed that is when the music stopped. After brent did pass and up until garcia passed there was not 5 shows that were strong start to end and 5 might be a high number.

  • YEAAAHHHHH!!!

  • Anyone know where I can download an MP3 of this performance?

  • @poona83

You can do it with a little effort

  • @poona83 i believe if you use the youtube downloader and download this video you can then translate it into mp3 using the downloader, if not, your ipod may have come with a disc with the software to translate it from this video, either way it's prob'ly a two-step process...good luck

  • @superflyinkspot Oh cheers guys. I won't do that though, I was really more referring to paying for it, but thanks for the info as a last resort.

  • woah, 1:55-2:09, a train rolls on by,

    kool.

  • I got my 6 year old son singing and lovin this song! -Thanks

  • hey now

  • <3 Jerry so much. RIP old man. You left way too early. :'-(

  • Brent was a very Strong member of the Band, I think especially during 87 Tour.

Just a couple of years before this I saw Brent and Bill do a little side tour calling it Go Ahead coming thru New Haven at Toads Place right next to Yale Campus. Where there any other Heads there and what do you remember. That was the 1st and only time every meeting Bill and Brent. In the hallway on way to mens room downstairs.

  • this was my 1st show! I had so many substances in me that all I could hear were echoes and warbles~~ hehe~~ stayed up for two days.......just 15 years old, too......I was so lucky to start going to shows as a teenager....... :)

  • @laurasurfer awesome i was 13 at the time wouldnt jump on board till 92 at the coliseum on long island,ny...still on the furthur and phish train:)))

  • Bobby's short shorts........and just think, Bobby wore pink shirts before any man I know, and he pulled that off too. Bobby = ALL THAT MEAT AND NO POTATOES !!

  • love brent pushing the harmony here

  • like the madonna shirt bobby

  • i love how this video opens they start playing and everyone started dancing if u never saw them thats just how it was every time i saw them for ten years

  • OOOHHH the memories!! God this takes me back.......

  • Brent in this vid~ Wow!! (~);}

  • Hippies rule

  • Bobby's hot pant/short shorts = too fuckin cool. Only he could pull it. Classic awesomeness...

  • I have to admit, I have never understood the fascination with this band.

  • @deslock1 you just had to be there...it was a psychic energy..

  • These were the beginnings of the last "happy years" for the band. Jerry was in good health, relatively speaking, everyone was getting along, the midi and the bust out of "Dark Star" and "Help Slip" still lay ahead. Sadly by '92 or so everything went back downhill... I feel nothing short of honored and lucky to have seen them 85 times during those years. I'll *always* love and miss you, Jerry.

  • i would love to say something insightful, but i feel more like crying that i will never again be able to dance my ass off to this like that ever again. those were the days.

  • @joroline64: One word: Furthur.

  • aiko aiko everyday ;o)))

  • Absolutely Amazing!! Thank you Jerry!!

  • that's what I'm talking about!!!! Yeah!@

  • This just sends shivers up my spine. This is one of the coolest things ever.

  • Biggle Tiddies 0.36

  • When the Dead started playing this song why was it nessisary to ad the A's

to "IKO-IKO" ??? That has baffeled me for years.

  • FOR AS THE FAR AS THE EYES CAN SEE WHERE ELSE COULD YOU EVER SEE THIS MANY HAPPY PEOPLE GROOVING AND DANCING WITH THE DEAD

  • OMG I would LOVE to own Jerry's guitar!! <3 He makes playing it look as simple as breathing. :)

  • Omg.. It brings tears to my eyes just watching this video.1987 was my first Dead show and I too was hooked from day one. In fact, I think they opened the show with Aiko Aiko into Women are Smarter and I was like Wow that song is so awesome!!! I spent all day yesterday watching Grateful Dead on YouTube and I just want to send a big thank you to all you guys who have posted these priceless videos for all of us to enjoy. The Music never stops!!! Thanks so much!!! Peace & Love!! Michelle : )

  • This was the beginning of the beginning for me... This was an ad I saw in the LA TImes, (Dylan & the Dead) I didn't catch Dylan, but I sure caught hay for the uncut hair!! Happy B-day Jerry!!!

  • If i was the sound man I would have turned that Brent dudes chorus vocals down several clicks. He's a little too much. Forgets who he's backing up! Annoying!

  • im 38 and have seen over 50 live dead shows and never saw this played live im lovin it Grateful Dead always encored and played some strange covers didnt matter who the orginal artist was they always put a better version together

  • I LOVE JERRY GARCIA!!!!!

  • What is it about the Grateful Dead that just makes me deep down genuinely happy and want to be nice to everybody?

  • @MJZ1974

haha ye well he just wanted to bring Madonna as close as she's ever been to music of the soul and not the wallet.

  • I'm a young bloke, but me and my old man bond to this song. And by bond, I mean we smoke a bunch of ganja.

  • Thanks for posting this great version~!

  • I remember being at an outdoor Dead show many years before this - when they began to play 'Woman are Smarter', all these girls flashed the band - Bob and Jer got laughing so hard, they had to start the song all over again...

  • @deweypug was that in 78 with santana - a "summer strut concert series" with nugent foriegner and lynyrd skynyrd ??

  • I wouldn't be born for another 4 months and 21 days

  • what was that noise at 1:43?

  • @mase5701 "MYIEEH!!!"

  • @mase5701, it was Brent :-)

  • hahaha i think it was brent

  • church bell

  • @halbie71 lol this was two days after I was fucking BORN! Damn you're old!

  • it's only the 80s...not world war II

  • @artaylor5615 EXACTLY!

  • I was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • madonna shirts $10

  • Watching the audience at the begining becoming alive with the music was always one of the best atributes of the Dead. Everyone just starts grooving and the whole thing comes together.

  • @NewMetroDesign ....could not have said it anybetter

  • @NewMetroDesign wheres the crowd end? haha awesome. i always wish i couldve seen them back in the day. this was 3 years before i was even born, and about 17 years before i really got into them.
