You're right that the K31 it is not a Schmidt-Rubin. It's an improved version of the existing design with several modifications making it a better service rifle than its predecessor ~ K11(Schmidt-Rubin).
"The K31 was a totally new design by Eidgenossische Waffenfabrik in Bern, Switzerland under Colonel Furrer" So it was not made by Schmidt-Rubin don't call it the Schmidt-Rubin it's wrong.
I have a question for all american people here. Here in Switzerland, you can pick-up a SR K31 for about 150$ or less, and a sig 510 around 250-300$. How many for these in USA?
@j20owner thats because of your country's import ban for foreign battle rifles i guess! The 510 is a very heavy assault / battle rifle that is more of a machine gun than an assault rifle and it packs a fucking heavy punch that lets an ak47 look like a toy gun. It is almost as powerful as your 308 winchester which is used in several sniper riles!
I bought a K-31 w/ sling and muzzle cover last week for $250.00 American. The beech stock is in very good condition, it has the normal nicks and dings that a 60 year old rifle has. The receiver and bore are in excellent condition. I think I got a good deal.
@m1garand44 a K31 will run about $250 around here, our verson of the Sig 510 (called Sig 556) which takes the more common M16 magazines will run $1,500 to $2,000 depending on the version, their are imported Sig 551 floating around but they run about $4,000.00
@m1garand44 I paid 200$ for mine the are getting into to 300$ range now. I have seen very many SIG 510's. I would love a Sig 550/551 which are very expensive.
@molanlabexm15 For sure, every day and night there are shootouts on the streets killing and maiming millons. At this rate there won't be anyone left in the States but Native Americans so realestate will be a real bargain. If you are interested I have some ocean front lots in Montana that are reasonable.
@m1garand44 Now the price for a K31 is about $500, that is if is in good condition. I know because I've been looking franctically to buy one, and the average is about 500 at time $600, sometimes 400-450 dollars. Sig 510? That rifle is so uncomon here in America that is very expensive. I would estimate a Sig 510 cost well over $1000. If a K31 are that cheap as you say, then I'm starting to think about a way to buy one in Swtzerland.
@matador5135 You can try, but I can say that it might be hard. I'm 16, but I know how it works. Me and my father bought for 100 Swiss franks (108$ actually) a K31. The Sig 510 is very common here too, we bought it 250 or 300 Swiss Francs.
But the laws are pretty annoying for guns. If you're american, it would be hard for you, because you need to export. The problem is not how to get the gun, but how to take it back in USA.
@m1garand44 In Canada, I bought my 1941 K31 a year or so ago, and it cost around $350 I recall. Bit pricy, but it's a great part of my WW2 collection, very well made rifle. Matching bolt/mag/reciever, came with leather sling and muzzle cap which are both marked with the Swiss cross. The Canadian Ross rifles mentioned in the video are supposed to be outstandingly accurate, sporter models are often less than $200, I've yet to get one unfortunately but like all guns I want one lol
@m1garand44 Guten Tag! Here in Seattle, Washington I just bought a K31 with a walnut stock in excellent condition for $280. Now the GP11 ammunition costs around $30 per box of 20 (more reason to learn to reload.) Do you possess this model? Best wishes from USA
@GrizzlyRecoveryZone1 Yeah I got a K31, I paid 100 Swiss Franks for it. 280$ is a good price fort this model. Some of them cost like 2000$ cuz they are limited editions, sniper rifles, or some specials.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Jesus fucking Christ, when does the yanks ever got something straight? Schmid rubin straight pull is not the straight pull used on the K31. Concept may be, tecnical solution not at all.
Btw love granpas old piece, my SIG 550 looks so tiny beside it
No nation bases their decision to declare war based on the enemies service rifle. If that were the case, nobody would have declared war on the US because the had the semi-automatic M1 Garand. Switzerland is full of mountains, which any military leader would tell you make excellent defenses. Why do you think Afghanistan has never been conquered? Nobody in history has dislodged Afghan resistance from all the mountains.
switzerland wasnt attacked because they had all the money in europe during ww2. US wasnt declared on because it is one huge country and it was on the other side of the world so there was no point. the nazis didnt even know about the US guns until they were shot at by them. the afghan gorillas could be exterminated if we gased the mountains.
Good luck finding one anymore, I bought mine a couple months ago and I wanted another but I cant find them anywhere. I got it for $200, but I cant find any.
I love the K31! The thing I do not understand about this rifle is the fact the sights really did not have any thought put into them at all. They took all this time designing this great rifle and they dont put peep sights on it. Even the Arisaka Type 99 had peep sights.
A little jab at the video: It was not the rifle the kept the Germans out it was all the money they had laundered for Hitler that kept them from being invaded.
The rifle had much to do with holding Hitler at bay, because the accuracy (including the well thought out open sights) allowed the Swiss to be effective at 600, evem 1000m. Hitler wanted to crush Switzerland, but he knew that an invasion would subject his troops to a total meat grinder. One other factor was the well trained Swiss citizenry. Money Laundering? HAH! Hitler would rather simply take all that gold, IF HE COULD HAVE DONE SO. The money laundering claim is neo-marxist propaganda.
That facts are after the war at the first chance nations had they (including the Swiss) switched to peep sights. The ones that didnt were warsaw pact nations and China. The Money Laundering claim has been proven to be true. It was not about Hilter taking Swiss gold it was about them giving him francs for his looted gold. Without Switzerland Germany could not have kept the war going.
I could care less what "other nations" switched to. Which ones? The ones who got smashed? Wow I'm impressed. You obviously accept propaganda as truth. The money laundering claim is Clintonista propaganda that **you** accept as proof. You obviously believe that the Swiss willingly helped the Nazis in that Hitler would somehow be able to use francs where he could not use gold. ABSURD!!! If Hitler could use francs he could more easily use gold. You obviously accept propaganda as proof.
After the war pretty much ALL nations around the world once they had a chance to design a new weapon switched to peep sights! The ones who did not are the Warsaw Pact Nations and China. With Fancs they would not have to say where they came from. With gold it would have to be declared. So it is not ABSURD! As far as proof goes you could be shown the smoking gun and that would not be good enough for you.
Pretty much ALL nations around the world are now going for one world socialism - Great Criteria! Who would refuse gold due to its origin? Switzerland traded with all nations to maintain neutrality. Did others turn down Hitler gold because it may have been looted from Jews? ABSURD!!! No one else cared about Jews! (Swiss took them in) FDR turned away the SS St Louis, sending them back to Hitler. France turned Jews in. England did not trade with Germany. Francs vs gold made no difference.
The rotating bolt design of the K31 was not designed by Schmidt. The bolt was completely redesigned in 1931, considerably reducing bolt travel, and allowing an extra 2" of barrel length (Compared to the K11 ). Basically the same thing that TargetPopper said. These guys are idiots. Also, good luck getting good groupings without getting GP11 or loading your own. It seems like nobody puts out a good load for this rifle anymore (The first person to say "Wolf" will get smacked).
The K31 is noted for its straight-pull action, meaning that the bolt is pulled directly back, then pushed forward to cycle the action between shots, rather than being turned and pulled back and forth, as in Mauser pattern rifles such as the K98k.
GP11 is getting rarer and rarer every day. Last I checked it's still available from several places online, but price is slowly starting to rise. Expect to pay about $10-15/20rounds.
@j20owner The good news is that it's a .308 caliber bullet and easy to reload if you have boxer primed brass. Very similar to a .30-06 or a .308 in terms of reloading components and techniques.
