  • needs the original music

  • Isn't Samir duran Xel'naga?

While there are vague references of the xel'naga conquering worlds and uplifting species, their most notable involvement was with the protoss and zerg.Their interest in these two species was due to the xel'naga's cyclical life cycle. When the incredibly long-lived xel'naga were due to come to an end, the xel'naga would use these two species to be reborn into a next generation.

  • This is why Starcraft2 campaign sucks. This writing is so brilliant. However Zeratul in SC2 is like "I BRING TIDINGS OF DOOOOOOMMMMM"... bring back the guys who wrote this :(

  • Who are those soldiers red who helping Duran? No Dominion, nor the Confederation resistance force, then who? And why they help Duran?!

  • @Qoldos they are known as the clandestine mercinaries, so they where paid to help him :P

  • The servant of a greater power that Duran is, the greater power is the Dark voice, or the fallen one, duran is not infested, nor is he human/terran. hes a hybrid servant...

  • To everyone who maybe doesn't know: This IS a canon. Confirmed in 2007. Though I am too wondering why Zeratul don't mention a fellow named Samir Duran in Starcraft 2. Or why he didn't tell to Raynor or in his memories that he found a hybrid in a dark moon and that a human was engineering with it.

  • To everyone who maybe doesn't know: This IS a canon. Confirmed in 2007.

  • The Hybrid - put the Zerg rush and the Protoss together - you get an eldritch abomination.

If those nasty things wake up - we can all kiss the Terrans, Protoss and Zerg goodbye!

  • @NicholasGeschke kiss their past goodbye!

  • And so Zeratul died in Utter darkness.

  • OMFG, Samir Duran reveal himself. He speaks of Zeratul and Kerrigan as young ones? Heck! The fight against him must be one of those bad-asses finale either in Zerg chapter or Protoss chapter. Or perhaps he will just die in one mission, but still must posses a lot of power.

  • He serves the Dark Voice. The Zerg-Protoss Hybrid is apart of the greater plan of the Fallen One to destroy all who oppose him and ultimately, reshape all of creation in his image. A central tenant of this plan is for Kerrigan to die.

That is all I can say for now.

  • Duran still needs to be reviled in SC2 :/

  • @800mls SPOILER he is dr. narud in sc2

  • @QualDanas i looked at starcarft 2 .com and i could not find any person called dr narud

  • @aztecharomor Play the campaign instead... You must save him from an attack from kerrigan and you will recieve medivacs when you're done with the mission

  • @aztecharomor try the starcraft wiki

  • @QualDanas who's "dr.narud"? Have you played sc2?

  • I love protoss because of their strong voices.

Imagine being able to talk like that... OMfg.

Ordering a pizza would be epic.

  • @BluelightSpike In Zeratul voice: I would like a large meat lovers pizza.

Extra deep, profound voice: No onions, please.

  • @BluelightSpike Eeh, at least you'd be ordering pizza psionicly instead of using a phone.

  • @BluelightSpike

    I'd like.....EXTRA CHEESE.

  • i think samir duran might me a xel naga..

  • @driftkingz109 If u listen to him speaking, i remember he says he serves a higher power somewhere in the game. He serves the xel'naga o.o

  • RIP ZERATUL voice actor!! xD

  • "i'll give them a lesson first hand"

    you tell em zera

  • he didn't appear in sc2 tho did he?

  • working StarCraft II, available "lnkgt. com/4Ep"

  • It seems Duran was only a vessel, as well as Doctor Narud in SC2.

They are vessels to the Dark Voice, the Fallen One.

  • @Brutal90Death

    So is Mengsk

  • @Iraniancommunist777

I think Mengsk is just a crazy bastard...

  • @Brutal90Death he admits as much himself. The Dark Voice is clearly the "greater power" Duran mentioned.

  • THAT WAS DA SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who the fuck is duran?

  • I like this Terran adjutant's voice better than the new one. Sounds more feminine.

  • @GFang00 eew, this adjutant does not even have eye balls. The new adjutant is not only sexyer(if that's a word), but more importantly...she's HD :)

  • @zalgrad85

Dude I was talking about her voice.

  • @zalgrad85 also the new adjutant is 3D :D

  • @2LitleBigAssholes can't live without that:)

  • Spoiler

"I've had many names throughout the millenia..."

    Yeah now he's a doctor

  • @zalgrad85 really? I thought he was Tosh since they are both ghosts, both well... you know lol, and both kind of unknown.

  • @ericnrivers well Tosh is our bruda, and Duran is...well Duran. You can never understand scheming little bastards serving higher powers that's what I say

  • @zalgrad85 bruda? What's a bruda? But i guess it could be anyone. My guess is that it would just probably be Tosh. But what doctor are you talking about?

  • @ericnrivers Bruda =brother, but like with a jamaican accent, which Tosh uses:) The doctor is duran

  • when i complete this mission it says bonus level activated

but after i press enter after the stats page

it jus takes me to the homepage of starcraft

how do i actually open the bonus level?

  • Starcraft2s secret mission and this one is connected. At least for once, you can actually see what a hybrid looks like.

  • @dessan18 just say this is the prelude to all the history of SC2, even with the specials missions of Zeratul.

  • yeah! I always knew this small bonusmission would prove to be very important

  • Ok zeratul FTW, new zeratul... Wells he ok

  • Duran serves the Fallen One mentioned by Zeratul in Wings of Liberty. . . the Overmind saw this when it tried to destroy the Xel' Naga, which are the bad guys.... at least when speaking about the Fallen One.

At the end the Overmind was the good guy after all ! XDD it created Kerrigan to give the Zerg free will.

Fuck blizzard knows how to write some good stories!

  • @Brutal90Death yeah when I saw that cutscene in the mission I was like sweet mother of mercy, now THAT was unexpected:)

  • I bet that Duran is a fallen Xel'naga if not an actual Xel'Naga... If he is fallen one his plan will be jeopardized by the Xel'Naga themselves or some sort of mighty artifice which Raynor will have to explore/find/activate in order to stop him. If he is true Xel'Naga then... well... the terrans better go back to the Old Earth and never come back. But this is impossible since UED and DuGalle were swept without giving up the coordinates and the exact location of the planet.

  • Kind of like the hybrid thing. since the protos became over intelligent their physical form degraded making them physical weak. while the zerg lack in brain but can withstand a grater amount of dmg. thus creating a race with large intellectual capabilities as well as greater physical strength.

hm... i wonder if blizzard will ever add a 4rth race in SC which is the hybrids.

and i wonder when or if Duran will make an appearance in SC2.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrFox1231 - I don't think the Protoss are physically weak. They hold the Purity of Form, after all.

And I wouldn't be surprised that Duran is actually the Dark Voice that appears in Sc2. Either him, or that black sludge void thing from one of those Sc2 prequel stories.

  • @Shadowycrafter you mean the Black Sludge void thing that was literally called "the Voice in the Darkness" among 5 or so other titles? yeah Its pretty obvious that he's the Dark Voice.

Duran already appeared in SC 2 he was Dr.Narud (not only is Narud Duran spelled backwards but they also have the same facial hair style and accents that don't quite fit in with the rest of the cast and Kerrigan actually says she "sees through your "Dr.Narud's" Pathetic Charade!" also same eye color.

  • @MrFox1231 I follow you. They use psionic implants(I have no idea if there is an actual term (zealot legs)) to make themselves stronger. .

  • @MrFox1231 I actually think is kinda, the other way.

Zergs themselves are like animals but all themselves obey one single great mind, first the Overmind and now Kerrigan. For that to happen they must be a very organized colony, I mean they are very primal and actually would be just like a simple pest if they were uncontrolled (like when the cerebrates died), but as pawns... well you see, dominant faction currently. Zerg strong?, that I knew their strenght relied more in their numbers.

  • you see the hybrid in sc2 it looks like a zealot with the body of a hydralisk

  • @iNick2

looks a bit different than that.

The hybrids look pretty cool. They are a pretty good mix of the two races

  • Is this mission canon? Zeratul seems to clearly know that Duran has a part in the creation of the hybrids, but he doesn't mention this in SC2?

  • @RonnsMoss The fact that he sees Maar and says "A HYBRID!?" suggests that he has seen a hybrid and knows it is one. He didn't know that the hybrid in this mission was a hybrid until the adjutant stated it as such.

  • @mavrickindigo

In thatcase he should say ''THE hybrid'' i played the mission and i admit i was very confused he does not mention Duran anywhere.

  • where's Duran? how is he talking to zeratul?

  • @Splerteeki - Telepathy?

  • o i get it the Xel Naga r the hybrids???

  • @spiersh946 Xel Naga are creating the hybrids (I think).

  • @breakinthebend the fallen one is creating the hibrid to destroy the universe, so duran must be a pawn of the fallen one. im the only one thinking that starcraft 2 will end with the alliance of the protoss, terran, zerg against the fallen one like in warcraft 3 with that demon and the burning legion.

  • @Psquit well not all the races were allied in that one, the Undead kept being the antagonists till the end, even when they partnered with humans at frozen throne they betrayed the humans (but that bastard knight dont remember his name got it coming lol). And isnt that wat the zerg wanted? to assymilate the protoss and become perfect?, unless that for some reason they stop wanting to consume (how? thats their nature... well ours too) I find unlikeable an alliance of all races D:

  • @buntado6 the zerg are pawns like the protos, and the zerg are slaves they dont have free will but the overmind wanted to give freedom!!!! to his children soo he created kerrigan and etc.

  • @Psquit spoilers alert.

  • "Damn! The Terrans are having more trouble utilizing pylons than I thought." - With this thing, Zeratul just owned the Terrans, I laughed really really hard. Just LOL!

  • Wow, you did a great job on this!!

  • Duran's voice in this level does wonders to set the mood.

  • But what Duran dosen't know is that the other terrans are making Chuck norris Hybrids so no need to worry:]

  • @lizardslaer23 There is no theory of Zerg Evolution, there is only a list of allowed species Chuck Norris allowed to survive

  • @lizardslaer23 Chuck Norris Hybrids ? Madness ! Chuck Norris can only hybrized with himself.

  • @PabloYaos Oh? I thought it'd be epic if he became a hybrid with Bruce Lee.

  • @Sinncrow so its one perticular hybrid? if so, had Duran not said " For I have seeded the hydrbid on many worlds" so im guessing theres more than one kind of hybrid spieces....?

  • @MultiDaniel1515

Look at the new portraits in beta. One of them is called "Hybrid Reaver"

  • ok so its true, zeratul's original voice actor is dead, and jim raynor and kerrigans original voice wont be in the starcraft 2 either....

  • The Xel'Naga are all dead, but Duran...hes like the emperor palpatine of star craft, he is making hybrid and going to use the artifacts to infuse life to bring back the core of the Xel'naga.

  • I think because that creature Hybrid there will be a new rase in Starcraft 2 probably called Xel Naga....hmm,that will be interesting-High Templar(as i saw) and Zergling in one creature!

  • the original voice actor of zeratul passed away at 2000 :(

  • @ruperateres how could the voice actor die a couple months after brood war came out.... seems unlikely, unless you have proof?

  • @Andraxxus195 google zeratul voice acting starcraft

  • I don't fully understand what the bonus mission leads to and what impact it will have on Starcraft 2. Can someone explain to me?

  • @MultiDaniel1515 The hybrid will appear in SC2, and what it represents will play a huge rule in the overall story. Also, this level is what made Zeratul go on his quest for answers, where he finds out about the future and how Kerregian is the only one to save them.

  • does starcraft dark vengeance have voice acting?

  • I remember this level. I was imagining what a protoss and a zerg look like together lol.

  • so does this mean there will be a 4th race?

  • I can tell you now, that you wont BEHOLD even ONE such epicly voiceovered line in Starcraft 2.

  • anyway i got to this level the fair way

  • love zeratul voice

  • Look out there an infested dragoon in one of those cell!!! LOL jk

  • I CANT FUCKING WAIT FOR SC2 FUCK ASDJFLAKDJFLA;KDJFADKFasdfasdfas

  • lol prelude is works of composer xD u should mean trubute xD hahahahahahha epic fail

  • its more a foreshadow a tribute is a honoring of something

  • THERE IS A PROTOSS IN THIS CELL!!!!

    lulz I love this mission

  • LOL. If the creature in the cell awakened, I wish that God was a living form in Starcraft. Then he sends everyone to hell.

  • 2:01 LOL! A protoss said ''damn''!

  • zeratul has spent too much time with Raynor I think :D

  • @bwones Yeah, that's why he was dumb enough to help Kerrigan kill the 2nd Overmind, just to get his precious Matriarch back even though the Matriarch Raszagal was under Kerrigan's mind control. Why Raynor and Fenix helped Kerrigan and Arcturus Mengsk defeat the United Earth Directorate is beyond me. They should have known about how Kerrigan had killed Aldaris and betrayed the Protoss she "allied" with early in the Brood War. Artanis and Zeratul should have warned Raynor and Fenix about Kerrigan.

  • @mcgrewrich That is the biggest plot hole for me. I can't understand why Zeratul could go along with the Kerrigan's offer to defeat UED after he witnessed how she killed Aldaris and help them get the crystals just so she can accomplish her OWN goals. Man, Zeratul deserved what he got for being that stupid. :P

  • did the zergs win the brood war? because i can't get the cinematics of my starcraft work so i don't know which race won

  • You don't need to watch the movies to knwo who won.

Play the campaign. Zerg's last mission tells you who wins.

  • My prediction: A Zerg/Protoss Hybrid Hero will be a main character in Starcraft 2

  • your crazy

  • man you are right :D

  • thanks for this

  • Durans speech gives me goosebumps.

  • He sounds extraordinarily powerful and.. like.... you know, evil.

    Thumbs up.

  • It all kinda makes sense, Duran showing up in the UED campaign out of nowhere, him constantly disappearing in two campaigns. But I never thought that he was a Xel'Naga. Plus, is a Xel'Naga just a mixture of protoss and Zerg, cause if they are, THAT SUCKS MONKEY BALLS!!!!

  • The Xel'Naga created the Zerg so they cant be a mix of the Protoss//Zerg.

  • @DarkTemplar40k sorry for destroy your comment but....

the xel'naga created the protoss too

  • no, the Xel'Naga created the zerg and protoss races so that they could mix the dna of: pure eccense (protoss) and pure form (zerg) to make some awesome perfect being.

  • @TheNemesis321 "is a Xel'Naga just a mixture of protoss and Zerg, cause if they are, THAT SUCKS MONKEY BALLS!!!!"

Highly doubtful. The Xel'Naga were the ones that created the zerg and protoss in the first place. (I suppose they could have separated parts of their genome into the 2 daughter species, but that seems unlikely).

  • hmmm.... Duran or Gman...... i wonder who is more mysterious

  • The edition is my production! ¬¬

  • sorry ,.. Blizzard Entertainment production ,.. a.k.a. nowdays Activision Blizzard ...not an abiscula production...cute

  • zeratul= legendary

  • In order to play the bonus level 'Dark Origin', finish the Zerg Brood wars level 'The Reckoning' (level 8) within 25 minutes. This can easily be accomplished by using the invincibility cheat 'power overwhelming' or 'show me the money'

  • It's hard as hell to do it without cheats.

I did it by only 45 seconds or so destroying the photon cannons that protected Raszagal with Guardians and then rushing with hydralisk coming from 6 harchery, however, getting enough resources to do that it's the main problem.

  • how do you unlock the extra level? i've completed every map in less then 15 minutes...still nothing

  • goddam i used to play this when i was a kid and my friend who was a starcraft freak told me about the hybrids and duran and shit dont think he ever got to this level tho

  • Duran is from the Xel Naga i think

  • Thank you so much, Abiscula, for posting this vid. And you are correct, Warlord- Duran is more than likely a Xel-Naga.

  • id be surprised if Duran did not appear in SC2.

  • I am guessing that the Hybrids are not actual Xel'Naga but creations of the Xel'Naga to serve as some sort of army, or else scouts. I believe a handful of Xel'Naga escaped the Overmind's attack ages ago, and they've had a LONG time to prepare for their comeback.

Also, Duran said that the Hybrid is the 'culmination of a cycle.' In the preview for SC2 when Zeratul meets Raynor, he says 'the cycle nears its end' when talking about the artifacts. Coincidence?

  • It is said that the hybrid is the xel-naga itself. Not a minion of the xel naga

  • Holy fucking shit that was... beyond epic

  • spoiler form the last dark tempalar book of the series. the hybrids are actully supose to be new xel'naga but the zerg killed there master's before they evolved so they can become xel'naga so thats why they are hybrids enstead

  • So Duran... is a Xel-Naga????!!!!!!!

  • i think so, Xel-Naga might have the ability to 'infest'(such as the zerg) a body and keep it in tact at that age. When kerrigan 'infested' the 'terran' duran, it obviously is a weaker form than the Xel-Naga becuz duran was able to keep his true purpose in his mind. He might've let himself be infested so he could obtain easy zergling from the swarm to use for his many hybrids. and he might mind control some protoss in the same way zerg infest or DA mind control. Xel-Naga did create protoss n zerg

  • Zeratul hade the unique chance of preserving the hybrid and study it finding a weak point before the creature's imminent awake, this would be a great advantage for the protoss in the future challenge with the hybrid race.

  • Freaky the turnout of this game isnt it ;)

  • duran duran ftw

  • I wonder what that hybrid looks like?

  • google: protoss zerg hybrid, and look for images!

  • Ahm, so this secret mission can be unlocked at the Expansion of Starcraft 1 or on the Original... Cuz I accomplished the original but there is not such missing as 'The Reckoning' (level 8)...

Another question: Why I don't hear any sound on my transmissions??? Plz some one reply

  • this secret mission is from the expansion

  • there is some version that can be played without cd.. and these version doesn't have cinematic scenes and transmission voices.. and the worst.. it doesn't has an access to this dark origin secret mission... even we qualified for

  • Did you notice that there was a huge number of pylons surrounding the last cell which means the creature needs that energy in order to exist.

  • good eye dude i never would have noticed it

  • @NEMESIS1999 Ya, i no. That Hybrid must need huge amounts of energy to even live, let alone the amount of energy it must take to be controlled

  • @NEMESIS1999 Or maybe he just wants to construct additional pylons.

  • @NEMESIS1999 the creature is still in the experimental stage. when duran can find out a way to make it active without all that energy, oh boy then gg.

  • @Cubalisk

Go to the starcraft wiki and type hybrid you will finally see the look of the creature that was in the cell we waited for this 12 years.

  • @NEMESIS1999 It means the map creators thought it was a good idea to make more pylons cos they needed ADDITIONAL PYLONS!

  • omg, thats so scary, i beat this secret misson. but, im curious about what will happen next. cant wait for SC2

  • Or a lot less than 25 minutes. Can't remember the time correctly.

  • I've seen this back in the days. There's a mission to destroy the enemies and you must do it in less than 25 minutes I guess. Doing it will unlock this mission. I needed to use cheats to succed in that time frame. If it doesn't work now, then try running it in a earlier version of the game.

  • hey ive unlock it but i cant choose it from the mission menu as it dosent appear is that normal?

  • it happened to me too. Apparently, there is another secret mission like this in the Nintendo 64 version of SC also. look up on google "starcraft: resurrection IV". I believe that is the name of the mission

  • Man I love the voice acting, it gets me hyped up for Starcraft 2. I wonder if Samir Duran will be in SC2?

  • i wonder just how old duran is if he can call zeratul young...

  • nice.

how you get to bonus lv?

  • yout get unlock it on the zerg brood war mission if you beat it with 5 or more minutes left (i cant remember its name but its right before omega)

  • duran gunna be in sc2?

  • Would have been nice if they had a cinematic for this...

  • what r u supposed 2 do 2 get to this mission? i cleared that zerg mission on less that 25 minutes without using the "no cow level" cheat and nothin happened..

  • I'm pretty sure you can't use any cheats at all

  • You can use any cheat except the auto-win cheat.

  • I just got a dark idea: What if Duran is the original Overmind reincarnated? Duran was infested before its death and became the Overmind's vessel after. He is simply continuing the Overmind's grand design, merging the Protoss and Zerg together.

  • hes not infested. he pretends 2 b so that kerrigan doesnt suspect. he said he was workin 4 a power greater than the zerg and the original overmind overthrew the xel-naga so he cant b what u say. no offense

  • When did the Overmind want to do that? I thought he was all about killing everything.

  • The Overmind wanted to consume the races that would strengthen the swarm and destroy those that would not. The Protoss were simply the one race the Overmind wanted to consume more than anything since both were created by the Xel'Naga, with unique "purities"

  • if duran is a xel' naga do you think he's disguising as a afro terran?

  • yep

  • what resources did you search to find that information, unless it's an educated guess.

  • duran and zeratul's voice is awesome!

  • the culmination is probably just the end of one part of the grand experiment; a changed universe indeed, but not destroyed; the universe is the grand experiment and Duran is part of the Xel'Naga; if you recall, the Xel'Naga were scientists ambushed by the zerg, but apparently they refused to stay dead
