Strats are sweet, but imho this sentence "this will make you easily fend off any early pressure" makes me mad...referring to 1 zealot and 1 stalker, even with kickass micro i don't get how this is supposed to "easily" fend off early pressure besides reapers...It is often used in the strats, but sometimes, in some XvP matchups, there are some builds that relie on crushing the Toss in the early phase...This is a clear contradiction for me, what do you guys think/how do you deal with early pressure
I tried vikings against rays and rays with speed upgrade+precharge on own units slaughters vikings. Stimmed marines in very large numbers seems to be the best counter rays. And support those marines with seige tanks to counter stalkers and zealots. Also a raven or 2 helps against stalkers doto point defence thing, and gives vison when you are making your push.
I think it would be a good idea if you note the Patch on which the replays were taken.. since build orders can change after the warpgate was nerfed.. Just and idea.. :)
if i were the protoss player and it took me longer to find my opponent as opposed to this player (he found his opponent on his first try) would this strat still be useful?
Void rays need some kind of nerf. The damage they do when they are fully charged is ridiculous to the point they can well take out an army of their own cost. Terran have a decent counter to void rays with ghost/marine and maybe even thors, but as for zerg their only counters to void rays in early game are hydralisks and when possible infestors.
since the 1.1 patch are you going to put the timing option on your videos so that we (the viewers) can know almost exactly when these builds are occuring?
I dont think VR are OP or anything. But i do think they should loose one level of charge when changing targets or something. They where designed to kill large units with a good deal of HP ( thors, colloss) and buildings.
I would agree it is a bit cheesy in the sense that the toss is getting a powerful 2nd tier unit so quickly. It isn't a full on cheese because he had a good mix of units. He had zealots and some stalkers to make a frontal push. I'd say this is a great and fair strategy. It forces the opponent to choose between the void ray and the ground force.
@AcidBugler yeah this strat is risky for the toss player because if you take that void out it hurts soooo bad haha its kind of a hit and miss I mean comone terran can scan before that void gets out
@bygone44 It sounds like you can't deal with Void Rays so you call them cheese. This is not cheese. Miou lost becuase he made too many buildings and not enough units.
I personally play zerg, and have to constantly tech hydras every time I am matched with a toss opponent. I never get the chance to switch up my strat :(
@zbindenz had one game where that happened, he didn't necessarily void ray, but I still had hydras, saw the collosi come in, micro'd him out, and quick tech'd to mutas which he had no counters for at the time
Why couldn't Blizzard may one of the Void's unit responses "Imma Firin Ma Lazor." ... I mean c'mon... how awesome would that be in a serious James Earl Jones voice?
@SirLXR thats true thanks for pointing that out : ) im going to have to try making void rays in maps with destructibles near the opponent very very sneaky lol
@AcidBugler yeah it's killed me tons of times. if they're smart they'll have a supdepot or missile turret to spot it. if they're not smart.... you win!

@mk6758 use the 1/1/1 build as terran, you will get your vikings like around 25-24 supply because of a 22 starport

You will now look at the mini map and realize that the minerals form a crude swastika which will make you feel awkward and slightly guilty.

@bygone44 how is this cheese he got 2 gates then a stargate you have probably lost to this thats why you think its cheese but it really isn't
Soprano205 1 year ago 18
@Soprano205
ur.. you guys dont really know what cheese is, do you?
cheese refers to something unconventional, not necessarely an all in like 6 pool or something.. a carrier rush can be cheese as well..
here the reason to why this imo was a bit cheesy is because he only had 1 gateway when the threw up the stargate.
addemanns 1 year ago
@addemanns cheese is doing something that requires the opponent not knowing. if the surprise factor is ruined then it's gg.

yeah well just threw it out there that cheese necessarely doesnt have to be a 6 pool or a 9 proxy or something crazy like that..

dont mean to sound like an elitist douche but... nothing about this is cheese, L2P
this is a perfectly viable strategy, stop crying about cheese, cant stand when people cry about crap, so obnoxious.
