  • I stock up on Pasta, Rice, Dried Potatoes, canned Soup, powder mixes, such as Hot cocoa, taco mix, pancake mix, etc. I also stock up on HBA's, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, etc, however, I do not go overboard. I live in the Country and I have to drive a ways to get things, so I try to get plenty to cut down on my trips into town. I have my own Gas well and running creek out back with plenty of woods and wildlife, so I could make it a while if need be.

  • E.M.P attack=1800 living condition ..75% dead within a year.... Iran and north Koreas failed missles launches off of a carrier are just that emp missles it's up to us to protect ourr family dont depend on the government.

  • Canned food can last at least 10+ years if stored properly. Claiming it goes bad after only a few years is just nonsense.

  • @Drumbum451 Have fun starving then.

  • @Drumbum451 What BPA

  • I prefer luxury foods, something to impress your girl friend. French wines, Dijon mustard, all types of nuts and of course, a bar from hell. These are items you can sell for gold, rich people usually go for luxury items and these items are the first to go.So if you want to invest in cheap stuff that will kill you faster,go for it!But I don't expect Christ to come for another decade(At Least),so I'll keep going with the natural food store items and a lot of expensive shit I can't afford to eat.

  • btw you look like an idiot wear a hat

  • god save us if you have no idea dont post a video what a waste

  • Canned food takes up a lot of space, is heavy to move, the plastic liner in the cans leaches BPA which great for pancreatic cancer and growing tits on guys, canned food is notorious for low nutrition especially in vegetables. The pro side is it's easy and the veggies have water in it that could be used in an emergency.

  • never I mean NEVER, eat from a can that has swollen up... ;-)

  • I live in Europe but just out of curiosity...how much is it for a can of Spaghettios or Spam?We don't have those in Greece as far I know,at least not in my city.

In Greece we have some amazing canned luncheon meat by Tulip and Zwan(danish and dutch companies)and great vineyard leaves stuffed with rice by Greek companies.Rio Mare tuna and/or Salmon are the best. These are my two cents.

  • @Tsagia Speghettios 69 cents a can, Speghettios with franks OR with meatballs 89 cents a can. Been awhile since I bought SPAM but I think a can was under a dollar each as well. Hope this helps.

  • You have about 2 dozen cans of spaghetti. Really?

  • A week? If you're preparing for a week, that's for a bad storm, not an economic collapse.

Hair gets in a can??? Huh? As long as it's sealed, it's safe, it may not tase very good and the vitamins may be depleted but it will keep you from starving.

How about doing some research before making a teaching video?

  • @mkmason2002 AIR not HAIR :D

  • Exactly!!! Right out of the can! :)

I found one video where a guy was showing how to grow "sprouts" from seeds right out of the packet. For a small amount of seeds, within about 4 days, you end up with a LOT of sprouts! You can do it all year, in a really small space! He used 3 different seeds and a "green plastic thing" made to make sprouts. They are great on a sandwich or in a salad and they are nutritious. Just thought I'd pass it along:)

    BOP

  • @BirdOfParadise777 You are quite right. Survival sprouts are great. A very nutritious food source that is easy to grow and maintain.

  • I PREFER it out of the can lol i love u

  • I do not know why. Cause people bring fear into the unknown to other people. Like there is nothing else to do to be fear full off? I do believe in self reliance. I do prepare, but please everything has to be done in porportion!

  • I would get like 1000 ,rei mean they fit the need

  • 3 months seems to be a comfortable amount of supplies to have

  • Hell yes..Spaghettos & Led Zeppelin..That's all you need

  • Don't forget some canned Veggies - (* Ie Peas etc - your cans have an expiration date if you buy today June 2011 most dates will be 2013 or 2014 you can easily get a year after that labeled date. Get Canned Tuna as well. Dried beans!!! you can "Sprout" them yourself. Hyper Inflation is going to hit and very soon so buy your food at a discount now. Forget about natural disasters the US Dollar Crash and Hyper Inflation will come soon enough - it's actually here already.

  • lol im eating chef boyardee out the can right now. its delicious. i prefer it heated but im adaptive

  • You can eat that but it's no good for you. I mean, you gotta get dry food, canned meat (lasts much longer), wheats, raw beans and rice.

BTW, my family does not believe in anything either but at least they know hoe to shoot guns :)

Oh and I grow much of my veggies so it's a plus for our family.

  • Those plastic water containers wont last very long, a year at best before they fail.

If you have good quality city water it can be stored for years in a good clean containers.

Glass fruit juice bottles, 2 liter soda bottles ect.

Hope you have a manual can opener.

  • As long as a can is undamaged (not bloated or dented or anything), the food inside is safe to eat. There will be a loss of texture and flavor after long enough, but the whole point of canning is that the food is usually good indefinitely.

  • you sound like a smart guy not a paranoid freak like i have seen so much of. Thanks for posting your vid

  • My Grandma just had a clear out of her kitchen and she had some canned goods from as far back as WW2. It was still good to eat aswell.

  • The sheeple are the freaks, they are parasitical freaks.

  • Love your channel brother and I just subbed. Thanks for all your insight and dedication. Keep up the great work!

  • Quality video, helping others to help themselves

  • You would be surprised how long you could eat canned food and not suffer any ill effects.... Those commenting that it has too much MSG or that its processed food have no idea what they are talking about... During the Civil War both sides fought on stomachs fueled by mostly unlevened bread... beans.. and whatever meat they could find... It was a horrible diet compared to Chefboyardee S&M's..

First rule of a Foodfight... Have FOOD..

potable drinking water is Numero Uno..Then calories

  • @tacticalbeauty In a survival situation, MSG and empty carbs will be the least of your concerns. Calories are more important than nutrition. Rice, pasta, beans all require water and preparation in order to eat it. Can goods only need a can opener.

  • i dont think you will give a shit what you have to eat if shit hits the fan that bad, you buy stuff you like so that you will eat it before it goes bad sitting in storage

  • i dont really like the fact that you have to think that "what if" thing, i dont think you should have to do it

  • I respect your feelings on how long a bad situation can last, but as you said you dont really know. Today with the jerks we have running this country, and the Evil doers of other countries and groups you have to watch your back. I am a husband, father, and grand father and prepping is part of my job description. but I think 6 months of food that could be stretched to two years is pretty good. add to that silver, gold and ammo and I will sleep OK at night.

  • lol I bought spam it lasts long....o and twinkees.

my spam will last till...2015 so Im good

  • @whyisthisnottyping i also have spam, one thing i noticed was that it's extremely salty. in a case like a disaster it would be better off to stay away from salty food to conserve water.

  • What about bottled water, how long would it last passed the expiration date? And it's not opened. Any ideas?

  • Better hope whatever disaster happens doesn't last more then a few months, or the pasta and processed meat will end you anyway.

  • i can food in jars lol and it last for every lol my mother had a can of foor that was 21 yrs old it was chily and it was still good . i feel bad for you lol your family isent eveny wered. lol todau is 2-10-11 lol 1 hole yre from when this vid was made lol do you still have the cans of food

  • i can food in jars lol and it last for every lol my mother had a can of foor that was 21 yrs old it was chily and it was still good . i feel bad for you lol your family isent eveny wered.

  • i can food in jars lol and it last for every lol my mother had a can of foor that was 21 yrs old it was chily and it was still good .

  • That's A LOT of salt. I'm thinking the salt alone is going to kill you and your family.

  • dude quit worrying about what ppl are gonna think of your prepping, at least your on top of your game... somewhat, you wanna feed your whole family and the neighbors cuz they will come knocking, thats not enough lol.

  • Another Great review. Thanks, Fred

  • How should I store bags of rice?

  • You are not the only one who eats right out of the can I always do that my mom says its gross but i love it that way

  • For nay saysers. Look up emp and mass coronal ejection and electrical grid. Emp nuclear attack. Any disruption of oil supplies into the US.. Actually there's quite a list. Folks can't conceive of this because it has never happened in their lives, but that's naive.

  • people said the war in Iraq wouldn't last more than 2 years

  • people who think society will last for ever and every thing will be fine will have no chance if shtf it isnt to hard to go buy a couple of litres of water and maybe 20 or so cans of food so they have something that they can survive on and wont have to be paranoid about any disaster because they have something they can rely on we have had terrible floods in australia for the last 21 days those people who didnt become prepared died or have to rely on military or government sanctuary.

  • for a few months of my life i lived on spaghettio's and bread

  • i love my dehydrator! i buy frozen veggies at the grocery outlet for cheap and dry them overnight. seal it up with the foodsaver and an oxygen absorber. i can fit a hell of a lot of food in a 13 gallon tote and it lasts for years.

canned food is great too, but it is heavy and takes up alot of space.

  • eat one replace it with 2 other words as time goes by you stocks will grow

  • Use coupons for canned goods. You will be surprised how little you can pay when they are on sale and you use a coupon. I have gotten some canned goods for as little as $.08 a can.

  • cuterlover, if there was a terrorist attack and you hid in your basement would you take a gun and what gun would you take?

  • Don't forget a can=opener.........or two!

  • Make sure you have a way to warm it up !

  • love the zeppelin blanket!

  • @galvinstuff -Ben Bernanke is busy with QE2 and the Fed is busy buying our own T-bonds. Hyperinflation will make everything very expensive. Look at Argentina during 2000 and Russia 1989. This nation and most of Europe is on the same economic path.

The other reason is that I can sleep better at night knowing that my family is prepared.

  • What could happen you ask ? Economic Collapse, Collapse of the currency, this has happened many times over in american history, Food is the most precious thing you can have, ask anyone who was born near the end of the great depression, People survived off their gardens by canning ahead, people traded food for coffee, sugar and other supplies, you can barter when you have food, you can't eat Gold and Silver folks, money is collapsing worldwide, you can't buy your way out of trouble, so prepare !

  • Yep my science teacher said if the valcano in yellow stone erupts the americans on the east coast surrounding it will die and it will be so massive that it will cover the earth with dust and make another ice age. Like what might of happen to the diansors.

But anywho its always nice to be prepared : ) cant hurt right?

  • u don't need this crap its called a gun and a will to live!!!!

  • how long do I have to stare at these talking cans!

  • Canned goods definitely last the longest. One year shelf life? Do you look at the dates? Most canned goods last 2-2.5 years. As long as they are not damaged or bloated, canned goods are edible for years after the expiration date.

  • @Kwikkill34 Canned goods can usually be eaten 5 years after you purchase them

  • lol when he said"if I ate spaghetti and meatballs for a year I would probably get sick"

  • MRE MUCH ??

  • @SuperShootdown search cutlerylover mre

  • @SuperShootdown mre are good but its about 5000 grand for a years supply by a month supply and get tons of can goods way cheaper

  • Good video. Focus more on the water sourcing. Analytic Survivors blog is very informative.

Just saying plan for at least a month to give you time to adjust. That means 30 gallons of water. That's a lot to store, but you can stretch the 10 gallons to last 20-30 days if you "recycle" the water with a DIY distiller OR filter water out of the urine with a desalinator.

Look into dried beans too. YankeePrepper has a great video about sprouts.

  • your safe is right behind this food........gotcha

  • all you people should check out the New World Order this is the reason driving these types of video's. A good video to help you understand is The Obama Deception a full length documentary on youtube and yes it is free.... It does a thorough job of explaining the current crisis. Meltup will explain the currency wars going on geopolitically or worldwide.

  • Those Campbells Chunky soups are awesome. I have taken the beef stew can and poured it over white rice for my kids and wife and they loved it. Think about it...you usually have 2-2.5 serviings per can. Add that over some rice and you've extended one can of food to feed 4 people. We have a "survival meal" every now and again just to eat what we're storing and also just to know that "survival food" doesn't have to be crappy.

  • I hear what you're saying, but I can guarantee you one thing. If something causes a 1 or 2 month collapse of the electric grid, contaminated water, natural disaster...etc, I can completely see the collaps of society. Just look at recent disaters (Katrina, Haiti earthquake)...it both those cases, people went nuts. Don't over estimate humanity. There will always be an element looking to take and even more who are without that will reach a point of being willing to kill to survive.

  • Properly canned food will last for a minimum of five years, and I have some that are running for 10. The only cans that have let go are green beans, and only a couple. I do rotate to a degree. Between the heat and eat canned stuff, I have near 50# of rice, and 25# beans. Add more pasta than you'd believe, and that's what I have. With the creek running through the place, I likely have a years worth, getting thin at the end. Ways to work around that as well. Prepared is..

  • After suffering for 11 days during IKE, we found the greatest survival thing we had was a Sterno Stove with Sterno canned heat. We were able to cook the stuff from the freezer and boil water for coffee and tea. It was still hot as hell, and we were soooo miserable, but could still have our morning coffee and evening tea. I always keep canned goods, instant coffee, some bakery items, etc. I really enjoy your videos (not the weapons so much), especially your cooking!! Please make more!!!!!

  • Food storage is not unusual Mormons have been doing for a long time now and they are experts at it in my opinion.

  • Pansies don't like it cold. Real men can eat it right out of the can.

  • I like it at room temp too. dont forget to put a canopener with your cans just in case.

  • Economic collapse, job loss, good to have 1 yr of food and eat what you store..

Dollar collapse, massive inflation. I have been prepping for 7 months and it took this long to acquire 1 yr of food and water.. IMO, to many thing s can happen, what is wrong with havin glong term food storage? Or, let's say, you are ill and can't work..

  • You should add gum.

  • You cant see society completly breaking down?Well i guess you've never been to Detroit.

  • So refreshing to see one of these videos without a paranoid freak in it.

  • I think about 95% of the people who buy those foods will just eat them out of the can and its not a taste thing, its a being lazy thing. I am included in that group, I would rather only make a dirty fork.

  • Jeff, you should get a can opener and put around it cause some times u might not go back go your kitchen or bed room to get your can opener or muti tool.

  • Whenever I finish off a 2 liter Coke or jug of tea or apple juice or something, I fill it up with water out the focet and toss it in the closet, so how long until I need to refill them ?

  • Solar parabolic mirrors can be uses extremely effectively to cook and heat up food or water as wells as using it to heat up large amounts of water to heat a radiator system in your house. or simply using the energy (which is ALOT) to run a steam engine producing electricity. this is much more effective then solar panels.

Living off the grid doesn't have to be sacrifice.

  • I don't believe you would need a year's supply of food. Just enough to last until your first crop comes thru. No amount of food will do if you don't plant. Maybe move to an area where you can hunt small game. A good pellet gun is a must. That way you can hunt small game without drawing attention to where you are by loud gunshots. The last thing you need is bad company. Food shortage will come by looting in big cities. No one will let their children go hungry. Unemployed = looting=food shortage.

  • the colony descovery channle on tuesdays. its awesome. watch it

  • it doesn't necessarily have to be for disasters or terrorists attacks. food storage can come handy in many ways. with the economy struggling, i know of many people who've been laid off and food storage has helped out there family so much. now there is NO excuse to be unemployed for a year but while you are, food storage can help you save that extra dough to put it towards other bills or things of necessity.

  • "a terrorist attack"?? doesn't he mean another 9/11 attack from our own government

  • @fjared36 O god another person who gives in to conspiracy's.

  • @SPARTAN1T LOL O god another person who thinks life is all peaches and cream i dont give into anything, you don't know me dude, i was in the 7th grade when the evil terrorists attacked us on 9/11 and from day 1 i was telling my parents that building 7 fell because of explosives, that plane that crashed in pennsylvania was not a plane but a bomb crater and i printed pictures off the internet to show my parents cars that were completely rusted out and flipped over on their hoods

  • that looks like a led zeppelin swan song blanket on your wall

  • HI, I wanted to say, Great video.. and I wish you the best, Keep up with your stock pile of food, Hope that your family will help you in your gathering stage. Again I wish you lot's of luck.

  • This is not being paranoid , this is called being wise...better safe than sorry, who knows what is on the horizon.

  • thanks for this awesum video--and i dont think its strange at all--being prepared is always more intelligent than starvation lolol

  • i wish someone could tell me what the hell could possibly happen that would require 1 year of food and water. and please dont say nibiru

  • @gavinsstuff terrorist attack on our eletrcial system nationwide...or say a natural disater like a volcano in yellowstone erupting...

  • @cutlerylover yeh but still thats not going to take a year. things will be back up in about 1 or 2 months.

  • @cutlerylover mabe some sort of generator would be a better option and if yellowstone blows america will just be a big hole .the best soution of all would be to STOP WATCHING THE DICOVERY CHANEL .and some therapy

  • @blobby1972 ,<- <- atleast we know who's gonna die first

  • @sonofsigns oh I hope your right who the hell wants to live in a post apcalyptic world just think no football no holidays .no sky tv but on the up side no DISCOVERY CHANNEL filling paranoid yanks with bullshit scenarios .

  • @blobby1972 , right .. cheerio . head in the sand again. knowledge is a scary thing huh.

  • @cutlerylover yeah all this shit could happen but are you going to live ALL you life paranoid and scared ? im not saying your wrong im saying this is probably not going to happen .

  • @gavinsstuff About ten years ago we got hit by a hurricane when we lived in the middle of nofreakingwhere. Went exactly two weeks without water and electricity. My family was not prepared. It took ten days for the state to clear roads so we could get out to a store. Everyone within 2 miles had to pull forces and work hard at getting clean drinking water. Too many families were unprepared. You don't have to stockpile. Just be prepared for an emaergency.

  • @gavinsstuff Besides wanting to keep my family fed during rough times, I would like to help my friends and neighbors. A trucker's strike, loss of job, illness and other smaller scale disasters can really cause suffering. Not worrying how to feed the children is worth anything.

  • @gavinsstuff A really bad virus could put us all in a situation where you have to quarantine you and your family. Possibly bad enough to warrant you having to shoot anyone who approaches your home. However in this type of event as in many others It could take much longer than a year to clear up, in that case you would have to be able to produce your own food.

  • @gavinsstuff Unemployment

  • @gavinsstuff , other than whats already been stated , SOLAR FLARES , NUCLEAR WARFARE, COLLAPSE OF FEDERAL AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS ..... AN THE LIST GOES ON. get smart man open your eyes , shit is in fact hitting the fan.

  • @gavinsstuff I'm more concerned about the crash of the dollar and a situation like what happened in Iceland with their currency.

  • @gavinstuff ,Im not sure but ,didn't the Great Depression last longer then a year?Didn't like 3 million people starve?

  • more like 10 years and 7 million starved

  • @jimbog1776 The Depression lasted over 10 years, but it was the first year or two that were the worse.

  • @gavinsstuff Eating and drinking for a year... maybe? Assuming you eat and drink on a consistent basis, buying in bulk saves money. Also, if you loose your job or need money for other things you can skip shopping for a while because you already have some food saved up. It's an extension of the concept where grandma would can the stuff from the summer garden to eat in the winter. Also, another of CL's videos showed a receipt for the same stuff I bought 5 months later. I paid 5% more than he did!

  • @gavinsstuff we used all ours when hubby and i both got laid off from work and we still had the same bills each month and way less income. we would have lost our home if we did not have a stock pile of what we use

  • @gavinsstuff with most of the population being as stupid as you something minor can turn into something major!

  • @gavinsstuff not alot of things would but if you ever seen the series jericho it has a resonable basis for a story as to why.

  • @gavinsstuff hyperinflation/ the dollar crash.

  • @gavinsstuff Here in Japan when the quake hit it severed water lines. So no fresh water in hit areas. Then everyone bought out the store. So no food on shelves to buy. One might not need a year but it would be wise depending on your area for have a few days worth.

  • @vanfarowe

Thanks for your advise. It's good to hear from someone that's been in a situation like that and know first hand what it's like.

    Hope you're doing well now.

    Thanks

  • I like a lot of that stuff and eat it right out of the can too. Cool video.

  • yeh they just mad a new show on discovery channel about sticking a bunch of random people together after an apoctoliptic event and see how they do it was ok

  • that "food" has zero nutrition. ZERO.

  • You are not weird for liking Chef Boyardee right out of the can!!! Same as unheated MREs!!

  • during the chile quake i was monitoring the local radio stations over there. since i speak spanish, i was able to catch more info than the news in the states.

for the most part, people WERE NOT READY for what happened. worst-case scenario became the law of the land. people didnt have food, water or shelter. and to tops things off, looters pillaged stores and even a local prison collapsed, sending hundreds of inmates out in the open, attacking the displaced citizens.

  • overkill is underrated

if its worth doing its worth overdoing

  • NOTHING TO do with shows like man vs wild... it has to do with the government sending whole platoons home to get ready to patrol the streets, and people like David Rockefeller along with Bill Gates saying t hat with great heath care and good vaccine programs WE CAN LOWER THE Population AND THEY OPENLY SAY THERE GOAL PLAN IS TO HAVE UNDER A BILLION PEOPLE.. AND THERE ARE JUST OVER 6 BILLION PEOPLE SO.... ALSO LISTEN TO EXPERTS SUCH AS Gerald Celente, RON PAUL, Webster Tarpley, Wayne Madsen

  • i like it out of the can also taste so much better

  • Or floods and forest fires should create sufficiant loses to crash the Euro. The heat waves of the next four years may kill thousands and create droughts that will cause live stocks to die.By 2015, the armies of most countries may have to help maintain their countries infrastructures due to a lack of healthy civilians.By 2020, the conditions for stable governments may collaps, and only high officials of the UN may circulate freely on the dying planet for Global Catastrophy Relief Planning.

  • great video!

  • FEMA and red cross videos say have at least 3 months ......

  • A month or two? Hahahahahahaaha. For Y2K I went out and bought a box of shells, tank of gas and a couple of gallons of water. But the shit thats coming starting the latter part of this summer is gonna last into the latter part 2012 (at least)...you better get you a case of beans and weanies too! Dude there is some SERIOUS shit coming...and broadcasting what your doing? I hope none of your unprepared neighbors recognise you when they cant feed their own kids! Can we say ammo anyone?

  • I say stock as much as you can afford. When suddenly it has to last for years, you'll never feel like you have enough even if you stocked for that long. Anyway, sucks that you don't like drinking water. I am an H2O advocate in the sense that nothing scratches that thirst itch for me better and faster than water. I can go comfortably during physical activity all day and all night with less water (and food) than you might have for breakfast, but generally I consume a sizable amount.

  • everyone should have at least a year supply of food.

  • @ThoTrav i disagree a year is just to much. a month is good if you ran out of food by then you dont always have to have ready to eat food. you might have a garden or good hunting places.

  • i have one more thing u could add to that, rice would be ideal for any occasion

love the vids keep on making them

  • Buying and storing food you eat all the time, doesn't really cost you anything in the long run, because you'd have bought eventually anyway.

  • Dont forget The Colony on discovery :D

    Great video Jeff :D

  • great vid. very wise to get some essentials for an emergency. couple of additions

    1. you can add rice or past to can food to stretch it out.

    2. can food sales usually means it wot last as long, so when buying make sure you check exp dates

    3. balence between carbs and protien.

4.purified water for consumption, reg tap water for washing dishes and hygene

non food related, medical supplys firstaid, and idividual needs i.e. diabetics.

    god bless

  • I hate the taste of water and milk. Just horrible!

  • Well done for just getting out and doing it, regardless of what the family thinks. Congrats, man. You went over some very good key points here, as well. A little tid bit I'll throw out there, Mountain House is an excellent brand of dehydrated foods. Both affordable and tasty. I did a "tasting" with about 10 of my family members and friends, everyone really enjoyed the various (10-15) meals we tried.

  • Do you live in the states?

  • i agree a lot of people go crazy with it. There is a big difference between being paranoid and practical. Small stock pile plus food you have in your kitchen should be fine for most scenarios.

  • @lavelliINC Id rather error on the side of safety, if it makes them feel better let em go overboard.

  • @lavelli IN ,in the depression over 60% of the US pop. was self sufficient.Over 3 million people starved. Now less then 10% of the the US pop. is self sufficient.Do the math.Thats a lot of hungry people with guns.

  • Instead of those clear plastic water containers, I would buy the 5-gallon heavy-duty blue water containers often sold where camping supplies are sold.

The cheap clear plastic breaks down easy and you'll end up with a leaky mess... happened to me.

Remember also you may need water to wash, cook, and flush toilets. You can never have too much CLEAN water, and it goes very quickly depending on how big your "family" is... and don't forget the pets !

    Good video !

  • @airmojo The primary advantage of those clear containers is that they were commercially packaged, which generally lends to a longer shelf-life than storing your own water. You can do it, but you do have to but in some cleaner every 18 months or so, and try to not store it for more than 3 years.

  • @dean10007 Sorry, but a "longer shelf-life" is not the intent of designing the clear plastic containers... most are actually designed to "bio-degrade" when in a landfill.

I would definitely keep a good supply of the commercially available bottled water handy, but for long term, a large size (5-gallon) container (actually, as many big containers that you can store!) is best, and adding 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon will keep it safe for a long time.

  • @airmojo Juice containers are already food grade plastic, and as long as you sterilize them, work perfectly well for water. I have about 10 gallons put up this way.

  • I am building my food and water stockpile to a 3 month supply...I think that should be sufficient...and always if a disaster does happenand you are afraid that your 3 month supply isn't going to be enough, you can rush to the grocery store like everyone else and buy up what you can....you may not get everything you want but you can add to what you already have....at least I'll be 3 months ahead of the other people at the grocery store.

  • I agree on the 1-2 month thing...even though I don't have complete faith in our govt, I think that if in fact there is some kind of disaster or economic meltdown, if there is no means of production or flow of food to the public in 3 months or so its probably not going to happen, so a few extra months won't really be that important... IMO there will be food available within a month or 2...also on water, don't forget your water heater has 40-50 gallons of clean water that you can access

  • avoid the MSG in canned goods.

  • Well, you certainly won't be suffering from a shortage of sodium.

  • Lol.. cant you just say salt?

  • Your body doesn't need salt. It needs sodium.

  • Ah, but noone knows what sodium is, however salt is essential for keeping the body well

  • Lol. It is a logical fallacy to assume that just because YOU don't know what sodium does that "noone" knows what it is.

Also "salt" is just a generic term for an ionic solid.

Your body doesn't need "salt." It needs sodium. It also needs chloride, potassium, calcium etc, etc, etc.
