The FZ28 is no longer avalaible new and now the FZ38 is on the markets.. but unfortunatelly Panasonic droped the "continuous shooting" in the FZ38.. it only shoots pre-programed bursts

I have a dilemma, even though this camera seems amazing. How are the low-light working conditions specifically indoor working conditions. I am now looking at the newer version of this. But what is puzzling me, is if I should go for the S90 or indeed the FZ38. Acknowledging that both cameras are probably in completely different catagories I would love to hear anybodies input on this.
@oddworms , I find its pretty good in low light indoors. I take pictures of church services often and am amazed how often I can shoot crisp pictures with no flash. I just took a bunch this morning as a matter of fact. I often photograph antiques indoors using only the sunlight coming in the windows and some normal lights in the house not set up lighting.

Hi, I have a small issue. I know two people with LUMIX cameras. Every time they try to shoot my son jumping around, most pictures seem to be blur. Are LUMIX slow? Is the autofocus and time between pressing the button and actually shooting on this camera quick/short?

Your video and text reviews are absolutely awesome and the best on the net.
IMO it really depends on the user. I have no problems getting action shots. One of my favorite subjects is water spray, which usually is not still. If you know how to use the manual functions then this camera can do a ton. I let it to my mother once and all the pictures she took where blurred. They were not even action shots.... IDK what she was doing.... basically the best camera won't help the user who doesn't know how to go beyond the auto function.
Actually, you may be better off with the FZ38 - it's the newer version and it may in fact be a bit cheaper due to greater availability - see my review at cameralabs . com!
The microphone on this camera records horribly muddy and muffled sound even from 2 feet away from the lens. I quite frankly have never seen (or heard) a more horrible mic on ANY camera
i'm not jealous, since i'm also an owner of this camera. You can check it if you search for the "bears in veresegyhaz" video. So the thing about the sound is own experience.

hey.. i have purchased this same came but i have a problem in getting pictures in day time in outside.. whenever i take pictures in day time it comes a totally white picture .. can u tell me how to get better quality pictures in day time.
I have not heard of that problem before. I get wonderful outdoor pix with my Panasonic DMC-FX28. Maybe there is a defect in your camera. You may want to consider returning it and getting a replacement. Good luck!

I bought it! And I'm very pleased with it too :) The zomm is really incredible :o And the quality is still good when you've used the digital zoom :) Only one slight contra: you don't get something to put the camera into so it's protected..

This is a great super zoom camera to buy. It has fantastic 18X optical zoom and a great image stabilization system. Also you can zoom in and out when in movie mode. It has lots of different modes for almost everything but i would point out that the macro mode is good but not as good as promised, but the best feature on the camera in my opinion is the inteligent auto mode.
i'm looking to buy the DMC-FZ28, but I haven't got the money yet. I'd like to know since when it was for sale in Europe (Belgium), because when I have the money I don't want to get bummed out because it isn't for sale anymore because it's been around for very long. Will it go out of sale soon, or only in a while (maybe when it's replaced by a new version)?
Its not available anymore. I got in the USA where there are still some in stock. I suggest you use a price comparisor in Belgium and try and buy a model soon before there are no more.

The indoor pieces to camera done for these reviews would sound a lot better if you killed the reverb somewhat, say, by hanging a couple of blankets on the walls that are out of shot....

Hi Gorden, I have the Canon SD1000 and I love it from the very beginning. The video and pictures is so awesome. The sound quality is great. The only flaw is when you zoom up on the video mode: Its blurry. I even have videos on youtube and not bad either. But I am looking to upgrade. A friend of mine just purchase the DMC-FZZ8 and he loves it. Honestly, in my opinion all cameras are good. Just depends what you want them for.

Sound quality is reportedly poor and I am surprised you did not comment on that. Otherwise, I intended to buy the camera. So, if video sound is not important, I would by all means buy this camera. I'll stick with my ZS3 for that reason, and my Nikon D5000.

Holy Crap what Costco was that. Im the Costco king but they dont have it at mine in WA State and usually costcos selection are kinda universal. Its not online either. Damn thats a good price and a free 4GB card too. I do hopes its class 6 though I kinda doubt it is. Still amazing deal
I just got one of these a few days ago and I have to admit there is a bit of a learning curve. I took a few shots at the maximum zoom without a tripod and I have to admit that the stabilization works really well. I did notice quite a bit of noise in the image when using the extended zoom feature, though.
Well obiviously when you use extra zoom it drops the image quailty and shoots at a lower megapixel. and when its lower it shoots at high isos which cause noise who needs extra zoom anyway its pretty friken big 18x optics
hmm.. Not really. You can still use the full 18x @ 10.1 megapixels.
In Extra Zoom mode (if you set the quality to 3MP) you can reach a whooping 32x.. This camera is pretty much the best affordable SuperZoom in the market right now.

Hello guys, please tell me which memory card do you use for HD video. I was thinking of buying Secure Digital SanDisk UltraII (4 GB or 8GB). Is it ok?

Go to a shop and hold the cameras. You don't want a camera that doesn't feel nice in your hands.

Thanks for the brilliant review! It was the last drop that helped me make up my mind and choose Panasonic instead of Canon SX10. I hope the camera won't disappoint me as a replacement to my old and (alas!) broken S2 IS.

This is a great super zoom camera to buy. It has fantastic 18X optical zoom and a great image stabilization system. Also you can zoom in and out when in movie mode. It has lots of different modes for almost everything but i would point out that the macro mode is good but not as good as promised, but the best feature on the camera in my opinion is the inteligent auto mode.

Hi,
i'm looking to buy the DMC-FZ28, but I haven't got the money yet. I'd like to know since when it was for sale in Europe (Belgium), because when I have the money I don't want to get bummed out because it isn't for sale anymore because it's been around for very long. Will it go out of sale soon, or only in a while (maybe when it's replaced by a new version)?

Its not available anymore. I got in the USA where there are still some in stock. I suggest you use a price comparisor in Belgium and try and buy a model soon before there are no more.

In fact, I wanted to download your own review, so I would be able to see it on my HDTV, which would give me a good way to see what the FZ28 can be looked like on my TV.

Sorry, the clips shown in this review were inserted into this sequence in letter-boxed standard def, but anyway, the video isn't available to download from YT. For my newer reviews, such as the SX1 IS onwards, I include a clip you can download at vimeo, linked from my reviews at cameralabs.

Tks for a fast reply! BTW, I just "discovered" the Western Digital Media Player to play any video, JPG, etc. on my HDTV. Maybe you could do a short review on it... eventhoug it's not a camera per se. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

The indoor pieces to camera done for these reviews would sound a lot better if you killed the reverb somewhat, say, by hanging a couple of blankets on the walls that are out of shot....

I don't know if you'd know this, but is Panasonic even still making these? It seems like no one's selling them...and if they are, they are much more expensive than they used to be.

hey gordon....!!! i am in a dileama here .... this camera is really a good alrounder except the fixed screen...... but does this have an edge over KODAK EASYSHARE Z980.... which has 12 megapixels, 24 opticalzoom and high def videos...... but i am not sure about the overall quality of kodak !!!!!!?????......... please do reply .... thanxxx.

Hi Gorden, I have the Canon SD1000 and I love it from the very beginning. The video and pictures is so awesome. The sound quality is great. The only flaw is when you zoom up on the video mode: Its blurry. I even have videos on youtube and not bad either. But I am looking to upgrade. A friend of mine just purchase the DMC-FZZ8 and he loves it. Honestly, in my opinion all cameras are good. Just depends what you want them for.

Sound quality is reportedly poor and I am surprised you did not comment on that. Otherwise, I intended to buy the camera. So, if video sound is not important, I would by all means buy this camera. I'll stick with my ZS3 for that reason, and my Nikon D5000.

I was lucky. Amazon had it for $249USD for about 24 hours before it sold out. I jumped on it then now its back t $299USD. Look forward to getting this Tuesday

Holy Crap what Costco was that. Im the Costco king but they dont have it at mine in WA State and usually costcos selection are kinda universal. Its not online either. Damn thats a good price and a free 4GB card too. I do hopes its class 6 though I kinda doubt it is. Still amazing deal

I just got one of these a few days ago and I have to admit there is a bit of a learning curve. I took a few shots at the maximum zoom without a tripod and I have to admit that the stabilization works really well. I did notice quite a bit of noise in the image when using the extended zoom feature, though.

Well obiviously when you use extra zoom it drops the image quailty and shoots at a lower megapixel. and when its lower it shoots at high isos which cause noise who needs extra zoom anyway its pretty friken big 18x optics

hmm.. Not really. You can still use the full 18x @ 10.1 megapixels.
In Extra Zoom mode (if you set the quality to 3MP) you can reach a whooping 32x.. This camera is pretty much the best affordable SuperZoom in the market right now.
The HD video quality is just brutal.
