@evdekisesegel find for compiz-fusion on ubuntu you can open terminal and insert the line-code 'sudo apt-get intall compiz-fusion' actually is very easy
unfortunately there is a lot of game designers who are more worried about how the game sells rather then what OS it can run on, so you will either have to do your research on what game runs in linux or try running it in wine
I used to Play Warcraft through wine on my Ubuntu box. Just now there is something in the Launcher Program that changes the files Permissions to play the game but you can change the properties of link on your desktop wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Wow.exe from wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Launcher.exe technicalities though warcraft is all you need and runs better though Ubuntu than it ever did through Windows Machine.
If the game doesn't use Gameguard or something like this you can. You can emulates with Wine or Cedega (the second you have to pay for use). It is possible to run Crysis, GTA San Andreas, Call of Duty games etc. Games for Windows like GTA IV I don't know, but I think it can. I already use Ubuntu and played GTA San Andreas, Call of Duty, Call of Duty 4, Counter-Strike and other games.
@Paumonsu No.. you are wrong.. first wine is a layer, not an emulator.. you don't need to have ANY windows licenses to run Wine.. so you can use windows apps under linux without to buy an xp or vista license.. Here a vista license cost about 180$ against 0$
UBUNTU 10 is incredible unnatended during the intalation and very very secure..
Try it.. you can test in over a boot cd without install it..
@zebnat seems like more headache then its worth when you can either run ubuntu live or set up a dual boot system one for games on windows and one for ubuntu
True, but that takes up valuable HDD space to create partitions. Let say you split a 100 GB drive into 2 50 GB partitions and you have a crapload of games. 50 gb won't last you long while the 50 GB for openoffice stuff might have 40 GB of free space just sitting there
@codeythesilent i personaly dont run much space for ubuntu i may run it with a little more latter on but i use an 8 gig thumb drive. so i can just run it live.
Linux ftw- windows sucks! Plus Linux is free, and all its apps are free! If you like this shiny shit check out Linux Mint, it is a great pre-packaged ubuntu distro with graphics and such already installed (for those of you who just can't figure out Linux); however, i still recommend Debian or Ubuntu.
im thinking about going to linux from vista. But what i can see it looks like linux would hog your preformance just as much as vista. considering linux has so much movable and customizable items, would it be better for gaming?
linux actuly takes up verry little space (4gb) were vista likes around 20gb and linux need much less RAM than vista does linux only need 126 mb of RAM vista nees at least 1GB to run good
@TheFrostburn ''for gaming-use win xp'':D:D:D:D...WTF,did you heard about Direct X????What version of it supports your great Windows XP?Becouse Windows 7 supports Direct X 11.Just read somewhere.
lol no. although ubuntu only uses about 1/5 of the resources vista uses. unless its a game especially made for linux which hasnt been made since like the dawn of time(meaning since a rlly long time) chances are no. not good for gaming. and to what kolby said not entirely true vista actually uses 1.5gigs and ubuntu uses 256mb.(unless its kubuntu. in any case using whine for games would be like using vista. but might be a tad on the slow side.
i have a problem in my resolution im stuck in default resolution (800x600) this is the highest resolution it have.....then i decided to install the nvidia then it said that i should reboot the system after reboot whaaa! im stuck in 640x480 resolution all things are so large...im currently using nvidia geforce2 mx/mx400 im really a newbie 2days trying to troubleshooting it but nothings happens....ur reply is greatly appeciates....ty ASAP
Linux, after installing the drivers correctly, sometimes you need to edit xorg.conf which is located in / etc/X11/xorg/xorg.conf and then there is the potential for increasing the resolution, do not forget that this requires have enabled chmod 777 and be root, in the case of ubuntu "sudo" - and also close the graphics area, init 4 to memory serves me ... good luck!
thanks for stopping by, great, that my video was made long ago, ja also created better and more stable, but what it is to share with all the information, hugs!
compiz is the union of two companies, leaving the system look much more beautiful and stable, beryl is old, very good, it was he who started it all, but now it's compiz-fusion we use ...

1. you need to wait until wine team makes it "playable" (depending on the game/application takes years).
2.by translating the apis you lose performance.
3.not including perfomance lossing by some bugs (jesus christ LOT OF BUGS), but the game is still "playable".
but yeah! you can play some games with wine, its still better than nothing.

Outra coisa..é difícil instalar as coisas no linux? \o\
Era isso =D

Probably low specs on his hardware, my rig at 1gb and GeForce 9600 w/ amd 1.9ghz dual core did a little better frame wise with all those effects, but I didn't have the cube set up.
