I picked one of these up for $150 and have been very impressed with it. About 7 of the rocker switches were broken but i figured out how to disassemble them and used a tiny drop of gorilla glue and they are back to new. Only thing wrong with mine is the right joystick does not control the LPF filter(left right motion), only the HPF(up down motion). Not sure if that component can be repaired or replaced, i'm pretty sure the filter is fine its just the joystick, because the s/h sound works fine
This exact Korg Sigma now resides in Cambridge, UK with me. I bought it from David in the Netherlands in 2009. I have just done VCF LFO modulation and VCF touch modulation mods on it and will be posting a video about them in a few days.
My first synth......quite fun. The thing that tickled me was the built in music stand which pulled out of the top. This thing is monophonic so music would have to be solo or bass based.
Hehehe....best off on top of a Lambda I suppose. Coud do some filter tweaking with that joystick tho.....
The Korg Sigma is a very flexible synthesizer with a simplified user interface. Just switch a button and listen how far it gets you. Who needs "8-point envelope generators with slope function" anyway? Korg should have made a polyphonic version of it! I guess the Korg Trident sounds different.
Contrary to popular opinion the Sigma does not actually have a Ring Modulator as such. It is more akin to the X-Mod effect that later appeared on the MonoPoly.
that is one cool synth

I wouldn't describe it as weird myself! :-) Nice sequence nonetheless.

Interesting rocker switches; you don't see that very often on a synth.

put a beat on it and you have yourself some techno trip in time

you simply cannot beat a hardware synth.

Very nice demo. Are you using the Kenton Pro-Solo on top to control the sigma through midi ? What sequencer is used here ?
pianist007 3 years ago
Thanx, I used the Kenon Pro-solo and the sequenser is a MAM SQ-16 hardware sequenser.

True., it is often refered to as a cross modulator, harsh never the less, yamaha cs 80 has the best ring mod i think.
