  • That thing is a beauty! Did u make the rear fender? I need to make or buy one for mine. Also where did u get the seat?

  • Really nice bike! I'm thinking about buying one, do you think a 6'4" dude would fit on a cm400?

  • i still think its bitchin,if i could id buy this bitch and ride it with pride, still the same wonder as the first time i saw it

  • what did it cost to do all of that? i've got a really clean 1981 cm400 I would like to look sportier, I just figured I could probably find a descent bike for what it would cost to do everything you have done here

  • Where did u get the seat from?

  • can you possibly have anymore shit hanging off your bars?

  • very stylish

  • where did you get your rear struts to make it a hardtail? also which speedo on jc did you choose?

  • where did you find pipes for that bike? and im diggin the paintjob

  • when it grows up it will be an harley!!!

  • @drysuitbear haha, yea it did have that little harley look. I gradutated to a sportster but sold it shorty after, and bought 2 new metrics that i chopped.

  • @betteronthursday1 where can i get parts for a bike like this i have a 1982 cm450a and want to throw some money down for some parts i like the seat too!

  • How is the ride? Do you take a beating with the hardtail? Does the pogo seat help?

  • Ha ha why do I think of leaf blowers when you ride away? Jk. I'm gonna straight pipe my 96 magna 750.

  • very nice done the color?? something more hot, from nidritis gr i will have mine ready in 2 months but it will be the original stile

  • Love it!

  • I like what you did. You took an old mundane bike and turned it into something that is cool and you can show off. I just bought a CM400 for $400 in graet condition and am going to do the same. I will have a cool little bobber for under $800 (hopefully) after all said and done. Thanks for posting this vid and keeping it up.

  • can you please tell me if you had to re jet the carbs to run the pipes that short?

  • honestly, i did not rejet the carbs. They did need it though, it ran lean. I put about 500 miles on like this though and it really didnt effect it. So if you swap pipes you wouldnt need to rejet right away, but i would suggest it eventually.

  • nice bike bro....is that a different tank? for some reason it doesnt look like a older honda tank....A+ man

  • Dude i love your bike! I'll have my first bike next summer and i wish i can have one like yours.

  • I'm chopping my CM400...I hope it turns out as good as that one...mine is already hardtailed... extending the swingarm, messing with the electrics and such...check it out

  • Awesome little bike. THe CM400 was a great beginners bike back in the day, and you've shown how someone can take a cheap, dime-a-dozen type bike and make it totally cool to ride.

    Cheers!

  • I friggin love this bike.

  • home made bars?

  • Five stars guy for the rims and the rear lights, great job!

  • Love the scallops mate!

  • Based on what the bike USED to look like.....Very nice work!!!!

  • Good looking bike, I know how dorky the CM400 looks, so you've worked a near miracle.

  • A+ for the bike man.

  • awesome bike :D

  • Hey I have a 78 400 hawk I am working on, any tips on the electrical? The guy before me mangled it up pretty bad

  • Hey whats the exhaust? Is it just chopped off there and a nice end piece stuck on?

  • Nice bike. I have always rode Harley's but not against any bike. This is one nice bobber great job. As for Curt8153 the people on harley chat rooms aren't real harley riders either. Most just sit on the computer and bitch about others if you are a bad ass harley rider that you say get off you tube and start riding and quit giving the rest of us diehards a bad rap. It is dick heads like this that make it bad for us real riders. Been on a harley for 15 years . who cares what you ride just ride.

  • tank suits it fine.

    Wheres it from? a CB?

  • This is actually the stock CM tank, i used bondo to mold the edges off the tank and make it look more custom. Longs process but paid off

  • did you have to lengthen cables or hoses?

  • muy buena te quedo la honda 400, felicitaciones

  • Nice, I just got one of these. I would love to do something like that with it, can't wait to start working on her.

  • I know you probably heard this a million times but what mods have you done to this bike so far? My dad just gave me a 1985 Honda CM400T in perfect condition but I want to chop it up! What are my steps?

  • Try looking at coonwody's vids. He has a 1977 Honda cb550, and it looks sick!

If your nervous about converting it to a hardtail, you can buy the complete hardtail units on ebay for about $250. I'd recommend this because it's imperative that you get the back wheel straight. These weld on right where you cut the frame and it is a lot less headaches.

  • What did you do for the exhaust? My wife has an '80 cm400 and it sounds like a lawnmower! this one seems to sound pretty good.

  • great bike homey!

  • Nice job man. I ride a shadow and i have a vid about my Honda chopper too (my other bike). I ride with alot of Harleys and a couple of triumphs. Only an asshole would pick on a certain kind of bike. Knees in the breeze!!!!!!!!

  • how do you convert a shaft drive honda shadow into a chain drive

  • I would think that would take some engineering. Maybe a heavy duty gear box of some sort, even then you would need to figure out gearing and get a new rear rim to fit with a sprocket.

  • Comment removed

  • excellent bike, i can't bring myself to sell mine, must have been hard

  • Hey! great bike!

Where'd you get the wheels? They're really nice...

Also, how did you do the rear fender? There's so many ways i'm not sure which to go for.. Thanks :)

  • Those are actually the stock wheels for it. The fender is the stock fender cut down a lot, then tucked in under the frame and bolted fast.

  • Great bike! How did you make the rigid struts? I have an 83 Shadow 500 that I'd like to take the shocks off

  • They are simple to make. Just 2 10inch long pieces of flat stock steel with holes drilled at both ends like the shocks were.

  • Nice bike - mini apes? thats what i have on my bike but.. i wish i have put 14" - live and learn.

  • Dude, I wouldn't waste my time argueing with dumbasses about your project bobber. I have a Harley Soft-tail Custom and a Honda Shadow VLX bobber, and both bikes equally get just as much respect as one another. My buddies who ride nothing but Harley's like the looks of my honda and they do not give me shit about it. By the way, good job on your project. Much respect to anyone that is willing to ride on 2 wheels and moreso to those who set their ride apart from all the rest! KUDOS DUDE!

  • Hey dick head! This bike cost a total of 500 bucks start to finish and gets more attention then my 2001 Harley Sportster 1200 custom. What do you ride...Your mom? Any bikes a real bike, get a life!

  • Its funny when you look down the comments and see all the ones about how neat the bike is, then you see an arrogant piece of shit like you who doesnt even deserve to ride a bike. You need to look at what ridings all about before you criticize other peoples bikes. By the way, when I made this bike I was 19 years old, could only afford 500 bucks putting my way through college and have since bought my sportster. But I will always have a metric to toy with. If feel bad for you man.

  • man, its people like that that rag on others for what they ride that made me hesitant to get a Harley. Didnt want to fit into that persona. I ride what I can afford, my 01 sporty isnt my first Harley of choice, but a night train was just too far out of reach.

  • Yea man, I just bought a cm450 for $275, try gettin a Harley that cheap fuckin asshole.

So, I was just curious about the exhaust; how or what did you do to make it sound like that?

    thanks man sweet bike

  • A Harley "chat forum". If anything sums up the problem with Harley Davidson today, it's that.

lol, yeah, you just run along and play tough guy on your Harley chat forum.

  • Im a certified harley mechanic and have been riding harleys my whole life. I find myself drawn to the metrics now , not because of the bikes but because of the people. Harley riders today are a joke, especially you. Harley riders today arent true riders there doctors and lawyers who now have expendable income and the need to feel "cool". Well guess what your not and with an attitude like that you never will be. And if hondas are such junk why does harley buy there suspension from them

  • that was directed at Curt8153

  • @jjsmmi

    so true...

  • @jjsmmi respect!!! nice words.

    ..

  • dude you are a dickhead curt8153. so check it out. you are the only one out of 40 comments who says this bike sucks and everyone else says the bike's badass. what does that tell you. and you tell him to get a harley. that is why i am sick of harley riders. they care more about the bike than riding itself. get a freaking clue man.

  • hey man, this is a sweet bike. wat is it like to ride with the hardtail struts in it? does it hammer your kidnies over bumps?

  • it really wasnt that bad, the springs on the seat really dont help too much.

  • i have a 78 cb 400a im working on. great job on the build.

  • looks good

  • wut a wanker

  • im in the process of building a 82 cm 450 into a bobber

We are kinda close. I would how ever have a question for you. did you stretch the swing arm or did you leave that alone. Any problems with the cops or inspection? Keep on chopping man its a nice bike

  • how much do u want for it where do u live

  • I was just planning on stripping it down to the basics but after seeing this thing im reconsidering. this thing looks mean.

  • nice job. just started my 81

  • thanks! are you chopping yours or restoring?

  • It looks OK but the sound is very wimpy.

  • its an 81 400 cc honda worth a total of $500 the way it sits. You want it to sound like a harley???

  • did you have to get new (longer) cables for your controls with that z-bar on? I Have a cm400 hard tailed and I'd like to know the damentions of those????

  • nice bike just got my 72 back together and going check it out

  • I have a Cm400c iam choping, I like some of the things you've done. Iam interested in how

you've done the rear fender. I would like to chop mine the same way. Hell Yes!!!!

  • Great build...You need to put a p-nut or wassel tank on it..just my opinion...looks great the way it is also...I just finished my 77...check it out!!!

    I have Honda CM400T.

  • Hi I saw your as on Craigslist. I'd like to check it out sometime. I go to school at KU and ride an 82 CM250. I'm looking to get a bigger bike.

Did you turn this into a hard-tail?

  • thank you very much for the compliment, I really appreciate it. Thanks again!

  • I've had over 20 bikes, 49 to 1157cc and none were as cool as this. Nice bike!

  • I was asking 1800 for it at the end of last years riding season. Im going to try to sell it again when the weather gets nice and there is more demand for 2 wheels. I live near Reading PA.

  • sounds like a great price for such a unique bike...i'll try and sell some guitars and get back to you.

  • how much are you selling it for?

  • Did you document your build on a website somewhere? I have a 81 400E I would like to change up a little bit and interested in some of the things you've done.
