in terms of pure speed dwight has banks beat. Their 40 times where virtually the same, but anything past 40 dwight has killed.. Dwight ran 10.19 100m/20.72 200m in hs. if he didntr go the football route he'd be an olympian.

Great to see these guys play. I went to Bett schools from second grade till the middle of my senior year (1995). I finished my senior year and my college years in Utah and when i came back home..the first thing i did was go to a BHS game. thanks for posting. brings back lots of memories.

Yep- I was in school at Iowa and grabbed some buddies to go see this game. Tavian was so smooth you didn't think he was so fast.  He'd go around the end and nobody would get a good angle on him. I also remember Dwight laying the hat on some tackles. That kid could hit like a train.

I was at this game! it was freaking crazy... I think the best part about Tavian and Tim are that I've met both, and talked to both they both are the most down to earth people you'll meet. very humble and giving, heck when my son went up to ask him for his autograph on senior day at iowa, he gave him his wrist band right off his wrist

Actually this game was played at the old Valley Stadium on 8th Street in West Des Moines and Bettendorf won 31-28

yeah tavian was a beast, i remember watching every iowa game in 98 when i was 16, just to see tavian and tim play. Tavian was the quickest ever to 1,000 yards in amount of carries, then slipped off towards the end of the season. I would've liked to see him do good in the nfl but the jags had fred taylor and didn't use tavian as a returner, he might be playing soccer somewhere

Dwight and Banks graduated in 1997...so that's probably what you meant. Yeah, Banks started the season on a tear. I went to the Tulsa game in which he ran for 300+ yards. Then they lost to Ohio State and it was all down hill from there. I'd call it the most disappointing season in Hawkeye history considering the potential (along with the 2005 team).

Nope. Banks played with the Hawkeyes from 1994-1997. His last game was the 1997 Sun Bowl. He was drafted in the spring of 1998 by the Jaguars. If you don't believe me, you can look it up yourself.

Davenport Central @ Cedar Rapids Jefferson has also earned the title of "Greatest Iowa H.S. Football Game" (not sure on the year but it was 60's or 70's), but with Banks and Dwight, I'm sure this was a hell of a game

You have to remember that Dwight ALWAYS down played his own ability. It would have been an interesting race but Dwight was smokin fast.

Dwight had run 40's in the 4.2's as well. As for blowing by Dwight come on. Dwight took too shallow of a pursuit angle. I would buy your argument if Tavian was pulling away from Dwight down the sideline. And from MY first hand experience, I have pursued and tackled both Banks and Dwight. Not to mention during their years at Iowa Dwight was known to be the fastest guy on the team.

Banks ran a 4.29 40 in his sneior year at Iowa. You're right, he didn't have the open field speed Dwight had. Banks was just quick as a cat.
