All the advantages of Paragliding versus Hang Gliding are on earth: Easy to carry, transport and setup. But once in the air the Hang Glider takes over: Never collapses, never blown to the back of the mountain, may take off from zero wind to very very windy... And never taken on any dustdevil.

Bone fractures happens in both sports: Arm, fore arm in Hang glider and Pelvis, Legs and spinal bones in Paraglider.

We call these "thermals" when you encounter them in flight. The problem with them is you can't see them at altitude. You can see them on the ground because they pick up dirt and dust. Very dangerous. I paraglide and hanglide. To the idiot who called paragliders "parafagots", he obviously hasn't flown one. They are much more dangerous because of the threat of a collapsed chute cause by a thermal. If I want safety, I hanglide, If I want a thrill I paraglide.

Hey Jenn! It's not incredibly hard, but like anything else, the more you do it, the better you get a it. You have to learn how to read the winds, avoid thermals if possible, air temperature etc. If you are going to try it I would suggest Hangliding. You can glide with an instructor. You use a little larger kite. It's safe if your with a good instructor and in good conditions. You can't paraglide with an instuctor, that's strictly a solo activity. It's such a blast! Nothing like it. Try it! :-)

Jenn dont listen to better off he clearly has not had proper training in either sport if he has never seen a tandem paragliding rig and if he says stay away from thermals. we like thermals they are what all pilots want. as for training just message me where your from and I can look a paragliding school up for you. I am in canada too! B.C. it usually costs about $2000 for getting your full licence in paragliding with a certified instructor

Also dont let anyone tell you hanggliding is safer than paragliding. they are about the same but paragliding is in my opinion better. you can hike your gear up to launch it all fits in a backpack and weighs about 20-40lbs depending on your gear. plus you can do more with a paraglider and your landing speeds are much safer and easier to learn. Hang gliders are rigid and always there. para gliders are like sitting in an armchair waiting for something bad to happen, was what some one said to me once. I reckon it comes down to pilot safety, not what you are flying... go for it and have fun....

What? How about you stop giving advice about topics you have no experience with. You can definitely paraglide with an instructor. We have tandems flying all the time. Part of our training program is taking a student up with an instructor on a paraglider.
