  • hi, if i had to choose one, should i go for aikido or bjj?

  • @taekwondo16 I think bjj is more practical, especially if you want to move on to mma or such later.

  • @taekwondo16 bjj much more practical bc whats aikido gonna do for you when you get on the ground let alone in a real fight...

  • Good techniques. I already use a few of these.

  • great

  • i love your videos

  • love it, thanks

  • wich one of these mount escapes (or it doesn't have to be from this video) is most effective against ground n pounder (e.g. MMA mount position)? pls help...

  • Why are you wearing a bath robe?

  • Gotta love the way Roy Dean breaks things down. I use his videos to help me show my son how to do things. Thank you.

  • all of these seem to be very helpful, the only thing i noticed is that they are all done when your opponent is already down with their hands on the mat (or on your body). are there any ways besides bucking that you can get them to that position?

  • Roy Deans instructionals are top notch, blue belt requirements is worth every penny!

  • Great Stuff!!!

  • Sweet

  • What a great teacher. I am stuck watching all his videos. I have been doing BJJ for years, and this guy really explains these concepts well. I am very impressed. Do you have any instructional videos I can purchase?

  • @BushidoCode72 Of course. Just follow the link in the information box below the video.

  • @uchideshi how much is it to learn bjj

  • @Pontare100 depends where you go

  • @rahanvey1995 how much does your classes cost? iknow its non of my biss but plz tell me

  • @Pontare100 my clases are 75 a month, 3-6 times a week

  • @rahanvey1995 thank you.

  • @BushidoCode72 Why are you searching for videos on how to escape the mount if you've been doing BJJ for years? Lol. That is one of the first things I ever learnt in BJJ.

  • @bigrock123 I know numerous ways to escape the mount. I like how this guy explains the material. I like his step by step method of teaching. Why do you care. Yes, I have studied BJJ for over 9 years now. I also wrestled. But as a coach, sometimes it is interesting to see how other coaches/insructors present material. I search all BJJ videos on Youtube. Anythig out there on BJJ , boxing, muay thai, and MMA, I try to watch.

  • @BushidoCode72 Kool

  • Man i wish you were my master :\

  • muitoo bom!

  • What does it mean if one punch to the temple means the end of a fight, because I did that to someone, and he ran.

  • Today was my first BJJ class, I felt so stupid. I didnt know what to do how to escape and stuff, I felt pretty depressed. But after I saw ur video.

BJJ is not complicated, BJJ is fun.

  • @MrColdheadRadioplay no, it is complicated. their are so many moves and escapes to those moves and counters to those escapes, and re- counters to those escapes..... but that is what makes bjj so fun. its like a strategy game in a way. don't give up, you will get good.

  • If I could perfectly remember every BJJ technique which I saw, I would be a true master...

  • quick question, i do bjj and for the last technique you showed us on pushing your arms under his legs, if i try that wouldn't it leave me open to a triangle neck choke. ya it sounds real out there but the people i train with incorporate their own moves into the thing. i will try it tomorrow at my practice, hopefully it will work, you just made bjj alottttt simpler.

  • 31 people.... Oh wait, everyone hates the "thumbs me up" comments.

Anyway, trying some of these escapes when I roll at the gym tonight. :)

  • 31 people cant do it

  • this man is good

  • side mount escapes are easier

  • Well done

  • 30 guys had their tired girlfriends do the mount escapes while they were trying to make sexual advances during bedtime.

  • Nice! i will go to try this at the gym!

  • it to me is easier getting out of mount than side control lol its a pain in the ass ahaha

  • @00firebird jajaajajajjajaa now they are 30

  • thumbs up if you also thought the guy at the begining looked like a cartoon character

  • great stuff!

  • Thank you.

  • how long did it take to get your black belt roy

  • When my girl gonna jump on me i will try it... to get on her...

  • I have a grappling tournament next month and I can't wait to train these. Very helpful

  • At 7:50 instead of passing the guard there is a submission right there. Thumb inside the collar at the opposite shoulder. Push the forearm into his tracheae. Base out with leg on the same side as your choking arm. Grab his belt with your other hand and use your body weight to choke him out. An easy and effective submission. If it does fail then you can still go to side control.

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing!

  • best escape is not to get mounted...carlson gracie said that once at a seminar I was attending. lol

  • everytime i get into this position the opponent is fat as a ball or long and skinny as a rope so nothing works on them

  • the full mount is pretty easy to escape.. i give up my back then get on my knees and roll out of it, it works every time.. sometimes i end up in the other persons guard

  • @mangoKush12 When someone gives up their back to me I make them regret it. A lot of other people are the same way. I was always told to only give up your back in an attempt to escape as a last resort.

  • As a novice I always freak out when I am under the mount. Thanks for the bridge and roll techniques. I will try them at my next BJJ class!

  • For the foot drag escape, would the guy in mount not have attempted a lappel choke by the time you tried to wrap his foot? Seems awfully risky.

  • Honestly i dont see whats so bad about the mount, when ppl rain punches, i grab wrist, and sweep so easy. Easy to do guillotine etc,, much ratehr get mounted then side controled.

  • They all work great JarJar. You just cant quit. I constantly work on mount drills and one thing I see is people just stop fighting when they are mounted. Also if your not working on these techniques consistantly youll never get them down.

  • I was at my BJJ class today and i tried a few of these. I only got one to work, but thats just down to me being new and not knowing anything. But i managed to get out of mount position with a guy waaay more experienced than me. Although he then somehow got and armbar, but still... it works!!

  • @JarJarAssault It's hard to get a move one someone who knows BJJ theirself. especially if he already knows the move

  • Man thanks, this is really good tuts video

i escaped the mount this morning.

  • Roy Dean is the man! I love his vids.

  • OMG thank you!!!

I just started BJJ and I will 100% fully agree that being mounted is not fun. Infact during my previous classes I actually kinda quit when someone full mounted me. I felt outta breath, like if I was suffecating and was completely helpless. And I tried to use the moves my teacher taught me but the guys were more experience so they didnt work.

Bottom line, being full mounted does scare me. I will definitely watch this video nonstop.

  • These moves are pure genius.

  • could you do mount escape 2 in side control also? i find myself being put in side mount a lot

  • 22 people couldn't escape the mount

  • @00firebird LOL... 26 people now. Anyone that "doesn't like" Roy Dean's videos truly doesn't understand anything about the grappling arts. His instruction is clear, he technique is flawless, and his videos are of top-knotch quality.

Thanks for all you do for the grappling community, Roy!

  • @00firebird haha i couldn't escape the mount but i still liked the video

  • it looks Easy here but when 160 vs 205 are grappling it aint. but all it needs is practice.

  • @gunfighterdrummer imagine 135 vs 210

  • Very nice escape!!! Keep pumping out awsome videos!!!!

  • These escapes are amazing. Simple, but effective.

  • Thanks.

  • i'm gonna try that last one on my girlfriend!!! :P

  • Nice... you are a very good teacher. Thank you.

  • this is really hot

  • The Gracie Hunter!

  • great vids, great to have people with such knowledge, who take the time to share it on yt.

    thx

  • On the very last escape, what's stopping the guy on the mount position to simply base out by posting his hands far out and away from his body in order to stop the guy on the bottom from rolling him over? I don't know i am being clear enough, i am hoping someone understands what i mean.

  • @kanguesso If your balance is spread too far you're going to be vulnerable to be rolled either way. You want to execute it very quickly in order to roll the opponent without resistance. I would grab his arm to make sure he can't stop the roll from happening.

  • @Blasfulmous Thanks dude, That's what i was looking to find out. It is exactly what i previously thought. I would think that it would serve me well to grab his arm too.

  • @kanguesso either way hes gonna go flat if he goes forward his centre of gravity, and u dont roll straight across, u roll in upwards in a 45 degree angle.. i hope u get what i mean =S

  • @Arran911 Got it, Thanks.

  • This is an amazing video. It has helped my defense TREMENDOUSLY! Watched it over a hundred times. Thank you sooooo much for this

  • this video is good

  • i like the last one

  • IT DOE NOT MATTER IF IT IS FROM A JAPANESE PERSPECTIVE, AS LONG AS IT WORKS. SOME OF THESE YOUTUBE ONLOOKERS NEED TO HAVE AN OPEN MIND. THIS IS WHY MY BJJ IS BETTER THAN SOME PEOPLE IN MY SPEAR. FOR INSTANCE, I HAVE A JUDO BACKGROUND AND IT HAS MADE MY STAND-UP GAME FANTASTIC. I HAVE SOME OF THE BEST TAKES DOWNS AND THROWS IN MY SCHOOL. MOST PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO STAND WITH ME. OPEN MIND! OPEN MIND!

  • he looks animated

  • i think that from all the inmovilizations this one is the easiest to escape

  • the second sweep i think is a lot better for use in mma the first one is a little tricky when your being punched with the arm that isnt trapped ..thanks for the upload

  • @EziBRo1 yeah he showing this from a jj perspective

  • @EziBRo1 True, these are for grappling mainly. In mma, fr the first sweep, i would suggest overhooking the arm you want to roll over (or underhooking, as with the second sweep, if they have hold of you head/neck), and keeping it in tight, leaving your other hand free to protect yourself. Then just bridge and roll. =)

  • Great Stuff! Thanks for sharing..

  • Always a pleasure to watch Roy Dean explain BJJ, one of the best instructors

  • I used this in my BJJ class when we were rolling and my partner didn't see it coming. ha.

  • that foot drag escape is like a magician escape!! amazing, i gotta try that out!

  • This is great..

But were did the basic elbow knee escape go? I know it should be in there somewhere....:O

  • @lorentzus the foot drag basically was it

  • @chikkmagneet ?

There's a version were you don't drag the foot... That's what I meant.

  • This was great.. But were did the basic elbow knee escape go? I know Roy teaches it..and teaches it good.

  • Very good online teaching! Many grappling instructional videos on YouTube don't share information as well as this one. Good job! 5 Stars

  • Very informative! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • thanks for the vid :D

its pretty awesome and perfectly stated

    thanks again ;D

  • hehe the standard upa technique i like that the most one of the mount escape ^^

  • Mniej gadaj, wiecej rób! :D

  • i feel vulnerable in the mount ! my position is side control i love it !!!

  • @kb92530 diddo; i dont even attempt arm bars from mount either cuz they feel like they re comin from down town. r u tall im pretty tall and skinny so i dont know if that has something to do with it

  • This is brilliant.

  • this is for begginers

  • fantastic instruction.

  • ur videos are damn good and damn clear man,, love the viewpoint change. thanks a lot !!

  • best ever

  • one of the best, if not the best vid out there on internet about mount escapes!

  • woooww,,,,, this is professionalism

  • Dude. I watch all of your videos. They are so awesome! They've been a HUGE help with rolling at practice!

  • Thankyou, that was very helpful. Really helps when someone is as articulate and well spoken as this gentlemen.

  • i m a stand up guy. my 4 years of bjj have focused on defense and escapes. i may not submit blue belts, but they never submit me and purple belts have to catch me sleeping. position b4 submission. you have elevated my submission game because of your details. fundamentals r key to every sport. learn 2 defend b4 u end!!!

  • Thanks for posting instructor Roy, you changed alot of lives for the better, God bless you for it.

  • LOVE THIS INSTRUCTOR! He explains in ways that anyone could understand

  • dude, I wanna train with you sometime, 3 years of BJJ and your the only one I've ever seen that focuses on escapes as a foundation

  • Very well done and very well explained. tks!

  • nice

  • Nice. It works.

  • I find I can nail the foot drag easier than bridging. Some useful fine points in there, cheers! :)

  • Wait what if the person in Mount is sitting upright ? i have this problem to many times, do you try and Bridge him forwards towards you? thankyou for the Video anyway :)

  • If he's upright step one will be to get him down. Always try to keep it close if on your back.

  • @Snuuky69 yea exactly right but it dosent allways work so wait hell come down so subb you he has to take an arm or grab a collar

  • KK ty guys =]

  • Yeah we addressed this already at my school, you bring your knees up to your butt close, and buck high and forward,he literaly HAS to go forward, sprawling his arms out.

  • awesome vids ...can any1 here answer my question. when trying to do the bump and hip push of opponent to pull guard(get him in the butterfliy) how do i do this if opponent has his feet under my legs? i learned a couple of these uin class and today when rolling wasn't able to get some of the hip bump sweeps to work cuz of the dudes hooks

  • this is some sweet stuff.

  • Very nice! I like this guy and his teaching!

  • 5 stars!!!!!!

  • Hes got a nice gym .. the gray matz are sic.. A+ vid

  • the first two escapes are the most basic and pratical escapes that doesn't require alot of steps and the most easiest to learn.

  • Great video showing clearly all the small detail that makes these escapes effective.

  • great video, thank you for posting

  • A+++++

  • Now i know why he has black belt and i have only blue. He is moving like machine, clear, very precisely, quick when he want ... Great VIDEO and GREAT MASTER !!

  • thanks dude!

  • Thank you, I look forward to trying some of these out.

  • Bam! My brother just did this to me. Just kidding, awesome video

  • hasbor my bro beats me up all the time and mounts me and i just told him to fight me and he mounted and i reversed him with the first move! its was tight cause he always owns but not anymore! THANKS DUDE!

  • u will alwayse get mounted in bjj or any grappling no matter how good u think u are and this goes for anyone, the key is how to escape it and prevent it.

  • @pimpinanrx8 "u will alwayse get mounted...the key is how to...prevent it" That is contradictory and barely comprehensible.

  • @ultimatehammer

Dude no matter how good you are there is always somebody who is better and will mount you.

There are guys who are equal to your skill and guys less skilled than you

If you train to prevent mount you will keep the lesser skilled and equally skilled dudes off you most of the time and the really good guys off longer as you get better.

Seems pretty straight forward to me...

  • @pimpinanrx8 Absolutely! After all, Demian Maia got his back taken by Jason McDonald in their fight, but he stayed calm, unbalanced him, & worked it back 2 a favourable position (the guard). Defense is just as, if not more, important as offense.

  • Movements well described and shown, will be useful. Thank you for sharing sir

  • jesus... always wondered where i'd start if i happened to be mounted, great and numerous options, thanks a lot!

  • this is awesome!

  • 3 more video's to watch and I get my youtube Black Belt!!!

  • @cflo1092 lol i've got another 20 vids to watch so im currently on my youtube Purple Belt!

  • @cflo1092 LOL!

  • @cflo1092 lmfao. I already know how to do most of ground stuff. I was in kick boxing, boxing, judo, bjj and wrestling for a year.

  • @cflo1092 Same here.

  • @cflo1092 These youtube videos aren't meant as a complete means of study or training. I use videos as a way to compliment my actual training. Maybe I didn't fully make the connection in class with one thing, or I wasn't paying attention for that second. Sometimes the most basic things come thru in a moment of clarity while sitting at home watching youtube videos in your underwear.

  • @migraine516 you wear underwear while watching you tube? wow. i dont normally wear anything. just my bjj belt.

  • @ct7320 .... Depends on your definition of "underwear" .....

  • @migraine516 You said it buddy.

  • @migraine516 Exactly.

  • @migraine516 exactly dude, sometimes you get raped by the conditioning at the beginning of class and you can't focus when they start teaching lol

  • @migraine516 Indeed. I've only just started my training, these videos are great to watch before class, practice what I've seen here and do what the coach says, then if I still had trouble, watch the videos of what I had trouble with and improve in the next class :D

  • @migraine516 so ur saying you can't be good at bjj by watching it?

  • @cflo1092 everyone is a black belt and as big as Brock lesnar on the computer didn't you know?

  • At least he tells you when these escapes should be used at what type of competition. Some escapes like the last one isn't MMA safe in which he pointed out.

  • your videos are awesome man, thanks

  • thank youu!! now i can pass my yellow belt test!! (:

  • those techniques looked very solid for BJJ. thanks for the vid!!!

  • Dr. Manhattan? Is that you?

  • are you computer animated? It sure looks like it

  • the gym is very nice

  • How how do you do this to your 18 year old brother who weighs 197 if you are only 14 and 138 pounds?...lol

  • its not about lbs its about leverage i do this to my cuz and wip the floor wit him hes 250lbs get the tech down the rest will follow
