Fellow Syd fans wont you take a minute to check out my song? its called "the majority" i wrote it a while ago but i uploaded it the other day. id appreciate your comments its on my profile favourites.
RIP Syd Barrett, thanks for all the great tunes, and all the inspiration, and some great experience's i had with your music. you are one of the greatest musicians of all time. shine on you crazy diamond. :(
It's amazing few weeks ago my first LSD poor and was listening to this song after I had the feeling of being connected with Syd Barrett and his music I remember hearing when I was facing the floor and had many pictures of different ways it was very nice syd barrett I love you.
they were just kids then probably drugged outa their minds, something tells me they were just fucking around . Then something tells me they knew excactly what they were doing
I may be the exception(or amybe I'm not, but so far I haven't seen anyone else mention it...) but I think Syd leaving the band and being replaced by David Gilmour was a reaaly good thing.
Syd's raw genius gave Pink Floyd a flying start, but left to Syd it would also have ended in a disastrous crash. It took the more refined skills and level-headednss of Gilmour to turn Pink Floyd into the smooth-running creativity-machine that made it legendary.
That turning-point came at exactly the right time.
@gargeltje Well, that depends on people's personal taste and opinion. The post-Syd Floyd didn't really attract me as it did with his presence, I even dare to say they should've changed the name of the band, because the main essence and driving force behind Pink Floyd was him.
I highly admire that without him,the other band members managed to create their own new style and be successful with it though. I just wish Barrett hadn't lost interest in music so he could continue creating genious tunes.
I hate when people compare Syd to God.Now Read and understand he has some great riffs, psychedelic music, crazy lyrics, instrumentals BBuuuuttt He sn't Syd Barrett
I was a teenager in the 60s, went to the Isle of Wight festivals worked on Radio Caroline the pirate ship. Now I am an old man, enjoy your youth because you will soon be old. That includes all you rich youngest at Google hehe.
if you wish, if you wish you were a teenager in those years... all you have to do is have someone pick you up in the middle of the night, blind fold you and drive you for five hours and drop you at a motel where you look at yourself in the bathroom mirror... until you get bored.
i completely agrees with whoever says this music is amazing. im a frickin 17 yr old and think that the music on the radio today isn't even good enough to wipe my ass with
you can't say pink floyd WITH syd barret, syd barret deserves as much credit of being in Pink Floyd as anyone else, he started the band, he gave them their name!
New fans-watch this, then grab "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and prepare to be blown away! In fact, grab the 3-disc version and make sure you listen to the mono mix.
@Sasse90 Yeah, definitely! The mono version of those songs are more psychedelic and have more effects. Don't forget the studio version of "interstellar Overdrive". Try comparing the intros, mono and stereo. The stereo is missing the organ intro, some effects and the track is missing some drum overdubs.
I'm ticked off that the 2011 remaster decided to go with stereo just for the sake of it. Until we get an Immersion set of this, either the 3-disc or 2-disc 2007 remasters are the best to get.

Check the San Francisco version. It was done in 66 as a demo, and used in a art house movie named for the city in 68. It's really ragged and aggressive, I love it. There's also the Copenhagen concert, and a short version of IO that's pretty heavy, I think it's the song Paul McCartney introduced on TV.
@mahavishnuxc lol i know what youre taking about...but no i like it its just ...i have this strange specific thing for the beginning of this track for some odd reason -_-
@sweethippy67 oh no, i hear you. at first i only liked the intro part and right around 3 minutes or so i couldnt continue listening to it because i thought it was boring....then i discovered marijuana.
What I don't like is the dated and antiquated 60's mod imagery and visuals that goes along with this video. It doesn't really square up with Syd. It also lends an air of pretentiousness to the music itself... which is crying shame. It feels tacked on, as though for a lack of anything better to do, the band's handlers decided that London's little mini-corporatist rebels (dressed in their finest Carnaby best) would give the Floyd further marketable presence.
