now Rec. 3: Génesis is slated to come out March 28, 2012 WHY WHY do they have to push it back so far I WANT Rec. 3: Génesis to come out BEFORE IM OLD!!!!!
@HumphreyTheWolf I just wanted to say, thank you SOOOOO MUCH for recommending Marble Hornets! Some friends and I marathoned all 53 videos the other night, and by the end of it we all decided to stay up until dawn before going to bed. :) Without question one of the scariest things I've seen in ages, extremely well done!
You are spot on about REC 1 & 2. They are both epic and make one nice extending story when paired together. That being said, Quarantine was alight, but Quarantine 2 was just another blah zombie movie shot entirely in 3rd person. I didn't mind that it went in an entirely different direction than REC 2 (i.e. different cause of the virus), but it was nothing like the first. I also loved Paranormal Activity 1 & 2. It took me a few watches to appreciate, but they are excellent as well.
im thinking of making somthing like this but diffrent. The first film will be Live Action & the rest will be Manga. It will be a monster movie series like Godzilla. But instead of the Pearl Harbor attacks it will be the Twin Towers.
last night i watched your first video on horror movies that look like home movies and i watched the St. Francisville Experiment. in all honesty it didn't seem much like a rip off of blair witch project. in a matter of fact it scared the living shit out of me and turned me into a blubering idiot in the corner. in a matter of fact im still scared a crazy ghost bitch with a machete is going to attack me in my sleep. my only problem is that the historian (Ryan) was scared alot and wouldn't stop cryn
Is it not rather clear in Rec 1 that the zombies are not normal virus infection zombies, at the end of the movie it get rather clear they are something else. One of the reasons why I really like the film is that they have been creative with explaining what the zombies are.
One movie you should see is called Trolljegerne or the Troll Hunters, it is a newly made Norwegian film, it is not out on DVD yet but it is coming. It is about a group of film students who are making a documentary about this old hermit who lives out in the woods, the old man eventually allow the kids to go with him and film him and it turns out he is...wait for it...hunting trolls, and not the cute little trolls you get on postcards from Norway either. The movie is very Blair Troll. :P
I'm sure you've already been told this but just in case. As someone who enjoys the Zombie genere as much as you do, read The Walking Dead asap! From everything I've been told it is amazing beyond words & a must read if you're into horror.
Hey Z! Wondering if you had any thoughts on the American remake of "The Ring"... trying to decide what my unabashedly immature highschool friends and I can watch for Halloween that will deliver some good scares... Blair Witch is on the list too!
@directorman0471 It's rare for me to say this, but I actually liked the American version better than the Japanese original! I've got both, and like both, but the U.S. version seemed to expand on the concept and just did more with it. It's a good scare, for sure. And Blair Witch is always a good choice!
@Zaranyzerak Hey thanks again for the tip... we ended up watching Blair Witch last night instead of The Ring and the macho-tough-guy in the crowd was saying "how stupid it was" and "how boring" but he was trembling and had a pillow up to his face for the last scene. That made my day... or night.
Just wanted to say that I personally thought that the husband character in Paranormal Activitiy somewhat added to the realism of the movie for me. Granted, had they known they were in a horror movie, the reaction you describe would have been expected. But in a real-life situation, if your wife is going through a lot of stress and psychological trauma and claims to be haunted by demons, I think a lot of people would have a hard time going for the supernatural explanation first of. My 2 cents :)
Also, Quarantine, didn't really like it, but I got pissed when I saw the ending because the ending is not only in the trailer, but on the poster and the DVD/Blu-ray covers. I thought, WOW, GREAT MARKETING!!! Another shaky camera movie I hated, Cloverfield, found the characters stupid and too much shakiness, I realize it's supposed shaky, but not that shaky. The only successful shaky camera movie I've seen was District 9, though it was only partially shaky cam footage
@bluto1992 Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking basically blowing the ending in every piece of marketing for Quarantine...that's supposed to be one of the big surprise moments! Thankfully, REC didn't blow it. As for Paranormal Activity, bear in mind the type of movie it is - a ghost story. I can't believe that if you were IN that situation that you wouldn't be scared shitless by things moving by themselves. A ghost story, by its very nature, is going to be more subtle like that.
I will say that yes I probably would be scared shitless, but only on certain parts. Moving door, I'd probably think it's just the air or something and I'll just shrug it off. Footsteps, I'd go into the living and kitchen and turn on the lights and probably go back to bed. Seeing footsteps in powder or a moving blanket though I'm not doing anything, I'd be scared but then I think I better call...
GHOSTBUSTERS!!!
But, seriously, that last part would scare the shit out of me
My experience with Paranormal Activity, watched 20 minutes of a bootleg, turn it off, thought it was dumb. Saw it again on Blu-ray all the way through, deep breath in, one of the worst, in fact the 2nd worst movie I HAVE EVER SEEN! I hated the characters, the scares are stupid, (OH MY GOD, THE DOOR MOVED!!!), God, 90 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. In case you're wondering, the worst movie I've ever seen was Madagascar.
Man, I've gotta get to watching REC2. I loved the first one, probably one of the best foreign and horror films I've seen. I just know this is gonna be a great saga.
Btw, I agree with you on movie dubs. They just... very rarely work, if at all. It's a lot more fluent to watch the regular language with subs. Same with anime. I'm a dub watcher myself, but I never object to watching subs. Hell, in a few cases I like the sub more than the dub! =P
I've just finished watching REC 1 following your recommendation and sadly I'm really disappointed - it wasn't scary, there was no tension and it even had me laughing a couple of times. I'll watch REC 2 in a day or two - I'm not getting my hopes up but perhaps it'll be a little better. And if not, in the very least it'll help me to further brush up on my Spanish. :D
@M3n747 Wow...sorry man, but you must be jaded as hell if you didn't find REC scary at all. I thought it was the most genuinely frightening zombie-esque flick I've seen in years. Annetta was cowering under her blanket most of the time when we watched it. Not sure what you expect from a horror film, but it had all the right elements to define it as scary...
@Zaranyzerak I guess I am, as I honestly can't remember the last time I found a film scary. "Jurassic Park" watched at the age of 10, perhaps?
True, I don't expect much from horrors - decent story and characters, good execution and fun deaths will usually suffice. But for me REC didn't have any of that - just people running around and screaming most of the time, which really annoyed me; the shaky camera didn't help either - and I did like Blair Witch Project. Oh well, I'll watch REC 2 anyway.
@M3n747 Oh well, can't win 'em all. For me, it really captured the essence of what it would actually be like to be IN that type of situation. That's how I approach most horror films, actually. What I find works best for getting in the right mindset is I put myself in the place of the characters. If you maintain the "3rd party observer" status, it's more often than not going to be disappointing. Horror is about give and take. You have to be willing to suspend disbelief and LET it scare you.
@Zaranyzerak I agree REC showed how people would react in a situation like this, but I always have the hardest time suspending my disbelief when realistic setting and characters clash with the supernatural and/or unrealistic. Now with video games it's easier - Alone in the Dark 1 and (especially) Silent Hill 1 scared me pretty good because I took an active part in the story, not just as an external observer.
Ahh I share your love for REC d00d, seriously. And Quarantine may now be a shot-by-shot remake, but its like a tamed lion compared to the original alright.
I belive there and opiton on the dvd were if you go and click on something in the menu them play the movie it will so allow you to some how skip our bypass all the animal killing scenes in the movie so you wont have to deal with them. I also have not seen it to avoid offend my mother she kind of a strict chirstian not as bad as the lady in jesus camp though. Plus It's kind of hard to find were I live
Totally agree on the dubbing, it's so annoying, especially in a live action film. Sometimes subtitles can be a problem too, because they kinda dumb them down so people can actually read them. I mean fast speech in subtitle, really hard to subtitle so it's not too fast to read.
@Zaranyzerak sounds great, can't wait. Loved the original reviews, they were great and in depth without revealing too much, oh and remember to keep 'em black and white : )
Not but seriously the Mummy Legacy set would really interest me, I've only seen the first Mummy film and would like to know if the sequels are worth purchasing, so that's why I think your review could help.
@kassemir Oh, rest assured i'll be doing my best to have the look match the original reviews. Want them to be consistent, after all! :) So the overview of the 3 sets will be color, with the individual reviews in B&W just like before.
@Zaranyzerak hey zaranyzerak!! rec stands for record or recording,,, jeez just get it right!!! jk kool reviews, ive been contemplating purchasing rec and rec2 so i think you have proven their worths!!
@Zaranyzerak Nice can't wait, I'm really diggin' this horro-a-thon if you can call it that. Nice that there's like three videos everyday, that's a lot of entertainment and inspiration on what to watch, love it and watch it all, keep up the good work :-)
i know how you feel, i watched paranormal activity with my mum and sister at the end they said i was a lil girl i kept jumping they said it wasent scary :( dont worry we are both still men lol :) great reviews.
Cannibal Holocaust really disturbed me, and still does, it's not an enjoyable watch,
that don't mean it's Bad, just really disturbing, it is a masterpiece.....I gotta check out REC 2, I never knew there was gonna be 2 more REC movies made, Great vid : )
Alot of ppl hate Meka or however you spell it, but he was the only saving grace of that film IMO. He was tryin to help and she just kept bitching...while I would have dropped her azz (she possessed for gods sake)he stayed around and we all know what happened.
You know, for dubbing, when it comes to Anime it depends for me. Depends on the quality. Funimation makes fantastic quality in dubbing. However the problem is that they have 12 voice actors and it tends to become really recognizable. Geneon also did fantastic dubbing before they destroyed due to people not buying and only downloading. Sunrise was another fantastic dubbing company before it went down as well. 4Kids never do a good job, and Viz Media is a hit or miss. That's just my opinion though
@bgcorporation May causes have been presented for Geneon going down the tubes with fansubbing, rippers, and pirates all being convenient targets. Personally I think they are just fig leaves to cover bad business decisions.
Must get Cannibal Holocaust now. Is this a movie you are interested in seeing yourself?
I have seen REC and man that movie scared the hell out of me. Especially the part where the camera panned down the stairs and all you see is every single person in that place screaming at you as they rush up the stairs. -shivers-
@bgcorporation Great stuff, isn't it? They really nailed the "you are there" feeling of being trapped in a building with a bunch of vicious, ravenous creatures out to eat your face. I think I'll be watching both of those every October from now on. :)
You really thought that Paranormal Activity was scary ? It wasn't even close. It was really boring. Exorcist was scary. Blair Witch was scary. Poltergeist was scary. But P.A. ? Not really.
Cloverfield was pretty good, for a monster movie. I love monster movies, Godzilla, King Kong old 50's film. The concept of the camera is a annoying at times, but that didn't stop me from buying the Limited Steelbook Edition when it first came out. Got it cheap, but the DVD itself is no different than the regular dvd box release.
I 100% agree with you when it comes to Paranormal Activity. Watching all these reviews on horror films makes me want to watch some horror movies. REC and REC2 sounds like something I would enjoy and I need to pick those up asap.
If you haven't seen it yet, and/or heard much about it - while not quite "home movie" style The Fourth Kind combines actors and documentary footage. The most notable actress in it is MIlla Jovovich.
@Zaranyzerak I wouldn't recommend that movie. I am a huge horror movie buff and alien doc/movie fan,but I can honestly say that The Fourth Kind is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
watch cannibal holocaust it is worth checking out i have the rec movies on order seen the first movie liked it, very nice video thanks cheers happy halloween
I haven't seen or do I have any desire to see Cannibal Holocaust after everything I've heard. I saw a thing on tv (mid-90s/pre Blair Witch)... a short film of people having a birthday party at a cabin, then aliens land outside... it was pretty FREAKY. I'm pretty sure Micah was made a douchebag on purpose - it makes even more sense after seeing #2. I haven't seen REC yet... but Quarantine is pretty good... & it *is* different than REC from what I've read. Thanks for the shout out! =)
@PlanetBierwagen The one you're thinking about is "Alien Encounter: Incident at Lake County." I talk about that one in the previous "Horror Movies The Look Like Home Movies" edition. Great stuff, and sadly no DVD release...had to download it to see it. Apparently there's an earlier version that's never been released. The TV version was a remake (by the same director, with a bigger budget). And yeah, I'm sure the douchebaggery was intentional too. But did he really need to be THAT douchey??
@Zaranyzerak LOL! I'm sure I saw an interview with that actor and he said it was based on several people he knew... Ha! I kinda feel bad that he used his real name in the movie... now he'll probably always be associated with being a... DOUCHE!!! There's a guy in PA2 that may take away Micah's douchebag trophy though.
I wonder if Rec 3 would be called Rec-Quiem :D Oh yes DOOCHE should become an internet meme, quick go to 4han, before someone else's does and uses that idea. :D
@David315842 I give all credit to PlanetBierwagen for kicking off the DOUCHE fest. :D He's done some hilarious vids with that idea. Apparently the prequel will be [REC] Genesis and the sequel will be [REC] Apocalypse. Hmmmm! Obvious biblical undertones there? (Which makes perfect sense once you've seen them)
@Zaranyzerak OK. PlanetBierwagon should head to 4chan and officially makes his claim on the douch meme. :D Yep, seems very biblical indeed. oh when you mentioned dubbing, it immedeatily make me think of Evangelion. A superb anime if you like your mind raped in a manner similar to David Lynch. :D The whole rec-quiem thing was just a clever play on words obviously. That and it seems appropiate, if you want to include ghosts to the mix i guess? :D
I'm like you. I have yet to see Cannibal Holocaust, but over the years I've heard EVERY little detail about it. I think what holds me back is the animal killings more than anything, because those were real. I don't enjoy watching animals being mistreated and slaughtered.
I really loved REC as well, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the sequel. (I don't think it's out here in the States yet....)
As for Cloverfield, check it out but be warned: It's full of DOUCHE!! characters. ;-)
@Ninkyo893 Yeah, the animal killings are definitely off-putting. The only instance where I saw a film that had that kind of thing in it but didn't mind was Apocalypse Now. The REASON I didn't mind was because the cow that was slaughtered was going to be slaughtered anyway as a part of the native ritual where they were filming, so they just decided to film it. So it wasn't that it was killed FOR the movie, they just filmed what was already going to happen anyway to ADD to the movie.
@Ninkyo893 As I said in the vid, I have no idea where dan got the DVD - but he's from the U.S., and it was an NTSC Region 1 release so....it's out there SOMEWHERE! :)
I'll consider myself warned about the douchiness in Cloverfield. As long as they all get what they deserve, I'll let it go. Maybe. ;)
great video, and you really should see Cannibal Holocaust its a masterpiece haha..loved your take on paranormal activity and [REC], but i havnt seen the sequel yet
@BookhouseBoy77 Down some Gravol before watching, then put your face right up to the screen for the entire movie and you should be fine. Oh, try wearing the old red and blue 3D glasses. Maybe the headache from the messed up color will distract you from the motion sickness. If it's still not working, try standing on your head. Or if that's too difficult, flip your TV upside down to achieve more or less the same effect, though you won't have the added benefit of the blood rushing to your head.
@RemixReplayRewind Might put GoBots off for a LITTLE bit, since I'm missing like 3 volumes of the collection. If I can track down the ones I'm missing I'll do it then. Or I might just do it with the ones I have...dunno yet. Either way, it won't be until after Halloween, and after Transformers is done. :)
The lighting doesn't compliment the shape of your head. You look and sound a little like like Glenn Beck, after a weekend at Ben & Jerry's. You speak in an overly-intellectual, off-putting tone. I think you would alienate 18-30 yr. old females. There's potential in your emphatic hand gestures and comforting body language. I hope I've helped you improve, and broaden your appeal.
@RicardoChandler Considering my previous girlfriend was 18 and stayed with me for 6 years, I'd say you're quite mistaken abut my lack of appeal to that demographic. My 6600+ regular viewers enjoy my tone. Glenn Beck copied me, I've been using that tone since the 80's. If he looks like me, that's nothing either of us can do anything about. The lighting is for dramatic effect, but since you have no videos, I wouldn't expect you to understand artistic production decisions. You can fuck off now.
Ha ha ! "Get a poor carton geek like me. You'll be much happier."
I'm sure she would :)

But yeah, dubbing sucks!

By the way, when are you posting the last of those Universal Legacy DVD's ??
kassemir 1 year ago
@kassemir In the middle of watching the rest of the movies right now. So once I've finished, I'll put together the reviews.
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@Zaranyzerak sounds great, can't wait. Loved the original reviews, they were great and in depth without revealing too much, oh and remember to keep 'em black and white : )
Not but seriously the Mummy Legacy set would really interest me, I've only seen the first Mummy film and would like to know if the sequels are worth purchasing, so that's why I think your review could help.
kassemir 1 year ago
@kassemir Oh, rest assured i'll be doing my best to have the look match the original reviews. Want them to be consistent, after all! :) So the overview of the 3 sets will be color, with the individual reviews in B&W just like before.

That's just my opinion though
bgcorporation 1 year ago
@bgcorporation May causes have been presented for Geneon going down the tubes with fansubbing, rippers, and pirates all being convenient targets. Personally I think they are just fig leaves to cover bad business decisions.

Must get Cannibal Holocaust now. Is this a movie you are interested in seeing yourself?
I have seen REC and man that movie scared the hell out of me. Especially the part where the camera panned down the stairs and all you see is every single person in that place screaming at you as they rush up the stairs. -shivers-
bgcorporation 1 year ago
@bgcorporation Great stuff, isn't it? They really nailed the "you are there" feeling of being trapped in a building with a bunch of vicious, ravenous creatures out to eat your face. I think I'll be watching both of those every October from now on. :)
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
Spain and the U.K. has Blu-Ray releases of both REC films so if you love the films that much and want more extras check those out.

@TheMantaBluRay Nice! I might have to look into that. Thanks for the tip!

You really thought that Paranormal Activity was scary ? It wasn't even close. It was really boring. Exorcist was scary. Blair Witch was scary. Poltergeist was scary. But P.A. ? Not really.

Horror, like comedy, is subjective. I don't scare easy, but Paranormal Activity freaked me out pretty good.

DKrules9 1 year ago
I 100% agree with you when it comes to Paranormal Activity. Watching all these reviews on horror films makes me want to watch some horror movies. REC and REC2 sounds like something I would enjoy and I need to pick those up asap.

If you haven't seen it yet, and/or heard much about it - while not quite "home movie" style The Fourth Kind combines actors and documentary footage. The most notable actress in it is MIlla Jovovich.
Stinger2578 1 year ago
@Stinger2578 Cool, I'll add that one to the list! Can't resist anything with Milla...
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@Zaranyzerak I wouldn't recommend that movie. I am a huge horror movie buff and alien doc/movie fan,but I can honestly say that The Fourth Kind is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

PlanetBierwagen 1 year ago
@PlanetBierwagen The one you're thinking about is "Alien Encounter: Incident at Lake County." I talk about that one in the previous "Horror Movies The Look Like Home Movies" edition. Great stuff, and sadly no DVD release...had to download it to see it. Apparently there's an earlier version that's never been released. The TV version was a remake (by the same director, with a bigger budget). And yeah, I'm sure the douchebaggery was intentional too. But did he really need to be THAT douchey??
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@Zaranyzerak LOL! I'm sure I saw an interview with that actor and he said it was based on several people he knew... Ha! I kinda feel bad that he used his real name in the movie... now he'll probably always be associated with being a... DOUCHE!!! There's a guy in PA2 that may take away Micah's douchebag trophy though.
PlanetBierwagen 1 year ago
@PlanetBierwagen Oh, and see both [REC] movies. Back to back if you can. What an awesome ride.
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@PlanetBierwagen Oh, and you're most welcome. Could hardly rip off your idea without giving you proper props. :)
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
I wonder if Rec 3 would be called Rec-Quiem :D Oh yes DOOCHE should become an internet meme, quick go to 4han, before someone else's does and uses that idea. :D
David315842 1 year ago
@David315842 I give all credit to PlanetBierwagen for kicking off the DOUCHE fest. :D He's done some hilarious vids with that idea. Apparently the prequel will be [REC] Genesis and the sequel will be [REC] Apocalypse. Hmmmm! Obvious biblical undertones there? (Which makes perfect sense once you've seen them)
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@Zaranyzerak OK. PlanetBierwagon should head to 4chan and officially makes his claim on the douch meme. :D Yep, seems very biblical indeed. oh when you mentioned dubbing, it immedeatily make me think of Evangelion. A superb anime if you like your mind raped in a manner similar to David Lynch. :D The whole rec-quiem thing was just a clever play on words obviously. That and it seems appropiate, if you want to include ghosts to the mix i guess? :D
David315842 1 year ago
LOL, DOUCHE!
imlaughing2death 1 year ago
I'm like you. I have yet to see Cannibal Holocaust, but over the years I've heard EVERY little detail about it. I think what holds me back is the animal killings more than anything, because those were real. I don't enjoy watching animals being mistreated and slaughtered.
I really loved REC as well, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the sequel. (I don't think it's out here in the States yet....)
As for Cloverfield, check it out but be warned: It's full of DOUCHE!! characters. ;-)
Ninkyo893 1 year ago
@Ninkyo893 Yeah, the animal killings are definitely off-putting. The only instance where I saw a film that had that kind of thing in it but didn't mind was Apocalypse Now. The REASON I didn't mind was because the cow that was slaughtered was going to be slaughtered anyway as a part of the native ritual where they were filming, so they just decided to film it. So it wasn't that it was killed FOR the movie, they just filmed what was already going to happen anyway to ADD to the movie.
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@Ninkyo893 As I said in the vid, I have no idea where dan got the DVD - but he's from the U.S., and it was an NTSC Region 1 release so....it's out there SOMEWHERE! :)
I'll consider myself warned about the douchiness in Cloverfield. As long as they all get what they deserve, I'll let it go. Maybe. ;)
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
great video, and you really should see Cannibal Holocaust its a masterpiece haha..loved your take on paranormal activity and [REC], but i havnt seen the sequel yet
mematt665 1 year ago
@BookhouseBoy77 Down some Gravol before watching, then put your face right up to the screen for the entire movie and you should be fine. Oh, try wearing the old red and blue 3D glasses. Maybe the headache from the messed up color will distract you from the motion sickness. If it's still not working, try standing on your head. Or if that's too difficult, flip your TV upside down to achieve more or less the same effect, though you won't have the added benefit of the blood rushing to your head.
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
lol nice sean, I hope you can review go bots soon
RemixReplayRewind 1 year ago

RicardoChandler 1 year ago
@RicardoChandler Who are you, and why should I give a shit?
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@RicardoChandler Considering my previous girlfriend was 18 and stayed with me for 6 years, I'd say you're quite mistaken abut my lack of appeal to that demographic. My 6600+ regular viewers enjoy my tone. Glenn Beck copied me, I've been using that tone since the 80's. If he looks like me, that's nothing either of us can do anything about. The lighting is for dramatic effect, but since you have no videos, I wouldn't expect you to understand artistic production decisions. You can fuck off now.
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
You really should see Quarantine, it isn't 100% shot for shot, it definently has some moments.
Paranormal Activity-Great, want to see sequel, but can't see it at my theater.
Both RECs are pretty damn good.
Cloverfield, Diary of the Dead, both awesome. Cloverfield is actully one of my favorite movies of all time.
Another big one is The Last Exorcism.
