I'm dedicating this song to a special person I can't seem to let go....My wife who died last June after putting up with me for thirty one years...I love you sweetheart...I'm sure we will meet again....
i was glad u came with me, instead of staying back with your family in vermont we went southwest to vegas, but then i chose to gamble and lost you to another woman who turned you lesbian. i have not stopped thinking about you since the day we first met. i want to have children now, but with another man, please come home to me woman. PS
@FarmerTrans I was wondering the same thing. David Gates wrote this for his DAD after he passed away, this is beautiful and it reminds me of my dad as well for certain reasons, BREAD is my favorite band of all time.
This song reminds me of my Grandad Joe who passed away in November 2011 last year, wish he didn't have to die that soon and I still can't believe that he has really gone already, R.I.P Grandad Joe, I'll always miss you :'( <3 <3 <3 <3
I was once with a very beautiful, special lady. But after 5 years together someone took her from me. This song describes how I fell today. I would give everything just to touch her again. Let the one your with know how much you love them. Tomorrow they may be gone.
This song has always and will remain special to me.It could be meant for a parent,a lover, etc.Bottom line, life's short. We never really know how long we have here. The part of the song that says"Is there someone you know ur loving them so,but taking them all for granted? You may lose them one day someone takes them away and they don't hear the words you long to say".That hits home pretty hard,as this song reminds me of a few situations I'm experiencing right now.Say what u feel,b4 it's too late..
I also lost my dad this past year... This song is deep and wonderful! I am so happy that my dad accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior the year before he passed. It's never too late! God is AWESOME!
Reading through comments I see that there are so many others who can relate to this song about profound love and loss. One of my favourite verses in the Bible states, "He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us." (2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT) I find comfort here with all of you. May the Lord ease your grief and keep you warm with happy memories of your loved ones. Blessings, SavedandSound
My best friend danced to this song with her dad at her wedding this wkend...it was an emotional moment for everyone there!! I had never thought of it as a father/daughter wedding dance song, but it was perfect!
I miss you MOM! I know your watching over me from heaven and you've been Watching over all of Us from Heaven its been 40 yrs now on Dec.6th.,but not a day goes by that I wouldn't give -up everything in life just to have u back again... I love u so. Much.. You were like an Angel on Earth and I know u are an Angel in Heaven.
@justonekissgoodnight You took the words right out of my mouth! It's been since August of 93 for me, and I miss my Mom soooo very much. I'm 46 but when I think about how MUCH I miss her, I break down and cry like a little baby.
I wrote a note to savedandsound. May I add a word this Christmas to you. The Love you have inside your heart should ease you to know that, the Love you feel was taught by your Mother & it came from Heaven above. Your Mother, must have been one lovely woman, to have taught such deep and unwavering virtues of LOVE. Merry Christmas to you.
Angels we have heard on high !!!=Perhaps your Mother is in Heaven assisting many women to be Mother's. Sounds like she did a good job with you.
I'm sorry for your loss. Does it get any easier? My mom passed away 12/5/11 and I am torn... I'm 28, bout the age you were when your mom passed away... My mom was just 49 :( A feel your pain... I broke down and cried like a baby today... I miss her so so much...
@8782kc Yes, it does get easier. Not a day goes by that I don't have some fleeting thought of her. Every morning when I wake up and start my peculator(that's an old time coffee making device...lol...google it...), I think of my mom.
I guess what gets better is that the guilt you feel when your mom passed will ease...we all have guilt when they go...for all the times you broke the rules, or her heart, or didn't say "I love you".
Moms know. And they forgive. And they love us for eternity!
@ThePatriotgyrl65 Thank you much 4 your kind words. The guilt is hard, I was her caretaker. What's killing me more than not hugging her more often is the fact that I gave the doctors so much trust. I signed ok for tracheal tube. Last talk of such, mom only ok'd oxygen mask. I was a coward, tube was put on sat. 11am only gave way to further complications. She was sched for ICU dialysis on Mon, that morning, I realized what I had done. I refused the dialysis order and said enough. I let her go. :(
@8782kc Good days and bad days I'm afraid. It takes time. Especially when you listen to hurtin' songs like this or "Every Time I See your Picture" by Luba.
Thanks for your reply.Yeah, I've been on a mad roller coaster. It's been a month of so-so days and days were I just wish it wasn't so... I long to wake up from this bad dream. But reality sets in and I have to take it whether I hate it.
Music has been my loyal companion in my grief. I'm no good reaching out to people. Never heard of Luba, great song. My mom got me into loving music, to have an eclectic taste to get to enjoy all kinds, only requirement was that it had to be good.
@8782kc Try & let yourself off the hook with the guilt, it's harder for those who don't work as healthcare professionals to know what to do with doctors telling them someone 'needs' something without telling them it will not change the outcome. I miss my parents dearly but as an RN I know all too well what 'doing everything' entails...you respected her wishes, does not make the pain of losing her less but you will not live with the regret I have seen so many have from not doing so.
Thank you... I will try. Yeah, you're right, in the end I did respect her wishes. I just wish I would of done so from the moment the tracheal tube was needed. I only put her through pain and she couldn't say anything do to the sedation... I know she forgives me, she gave unconditional love. However, I have a tough time forgiving myself. I not only prolonged her suffering... I betrayed my mom... my best friend.
@8782kc Baby you didn't betray your mom it is not an easy to let go of love and memories that are attached to them. I hope you have brothers or sisters to lean on for all of the wonderful memories you share. She is forever with you and feeling no pain or resentment but watching over you till you can be together once again.
@dv6272203 Thank you so much. Yes, she's w/ me everyday, in my heart and in my thoughts. I get pretty sentimental from the loss, while other times I smile remembering her jokes & silly antics. 1 older brother, we're only 2 years apart. We've gone through so much & are there 4 eachother. I've hated him plenty (we can be very opposite) but I love him dearly. Mom and I were 2 darn tight to be apart forever. 4 now I will honor her/make her proud while keeping patience until that special day arrives.
this song was written by David Gates for his Father after his dad died, it's very beautiful too. Many people think that its a Love song! But I suppose it is!
@pyschedelicpatti According to the book 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, at his father's funeral, a friend took David Gates aside and said, "Your dad was so proud of what you were doing." David agreed by replying, "My success would have been so special to him as he was my greatest influence. So I decided to write and record Everything I Own about him. If you listen to the words, 'You sheltered me from harm, kept me warm, gave my life to me, set me free,' it says it all."
Good one Jenny. When in hospital at the age of 15 my mother had this played has a request for me on the hospital radio. Moving on several years and being divorced for Two years i would so much like to meet up with my X wife and listen to this together.
Growing up, whenever my dad and mom heard a special song that meant a lot to them, one of them would look at the other, smile and say one word: "Dedication."
My father passed away 11 years ago today. He loved bread, and he loved music by Bread. So Daddy, I want you to know I love you with all my heart and I miss you so much...
Thanks for sharing your life memories. God Bless your Father, for making such an impact in your life & on marriage and loving your Mother. The Lord and him are shinning down on you and smiling. You are honoring his life and teaching by doing what your doing, passing on his love...through music and one word....Dedication. Thank-You.
@dkfavs Thank you, dkfavs, for your thoughtful and comforting words. Someone once said that the greatest gift a father could give his children was to love and honour their mother. Your comment reminded me of that, and what a blessing it was to my siblings and to me that we were given that great gift :) God bless you and yours!
Merry Christmas !! Since my daughter & I read your touching remarks about the loss of your Father, his teachings, his love and {dedication}. We want to wish you & yours a Blessed Christmas. I do believe that your Father is in Heaven, with angel wings earned, for teaching from his heart, what the good Lord wanted him to do & it sounds like he did a great job. Love=Dedication. You & your family have something money can't buy.Years of examples, that left Rich Memories of his Love.
@dkfavs Thank you for your precious comment. Yes, Dad's in Heaven--his faith was strong and pure and he lived it out daily, touching the lives of all who knew him. I smiled at your mentioning angel wings earned: Dad was an electrician for Eastern Airlines for 25 years. When he retired, Mom made a sign that read "Congratulations! Ed Otto Has Earned His Wings!" :) Thank you again for the sweet blessing--Merry Christmas and may the Lord bless you and your family with a Happy New Year! Hugs, Debra.
I wish I could play this song to my best friend who give me life when I was ready to commit suicide but his family hates me. he made my life worth living now I have no one left to care.
