I was wondering, what is that step you take greying out the picture then adding the details and colouring the layer underneath. Was that a low opacity layer? It didn't look like the paintbucket.

Can you please tell me how that is done? Unless of course its trade secret then I totally understand and respect.

@TempestKiro I believe you are talking about when I selected the outside, hit select "inverse" then either colored the selection with my brush in color mode, or filled a layer underneath (edit>fill) and merged together.

@WittyCokeAtom A color layer in photoshop. Or overlay. Usually a color one. You set your values, tones, shadows and highlights etc. in black/white and then you add color. It's way easier this way. You should try it ouy :D.

Nice to see an update, when I first came across these about a year ago, it inspired me to get back into art. I don't have the money for a tablet yet, but just seeing the things you can do with one really makes me want to set aside the money. And just out of curiosity, have you tried pumpkin carving? I've seen some amazing ones, I can only imagine what you could do with a good sized pumpkin and a few spoons!

Ha yes i realize that's all the colors but it's the combination used. every picture for the last 3 years has been orange and teal or purple..a little green on some dragons.

I personaly, this is just me and i expected lots of negative comments from my feelings, but i just feel like Cris is capable of so much more than this same style all the time.

@theraVen27 True but i dont think he "chooses" his colours in most cases since he is making such realistic pictures. For example if its a dark rendition containing a huge moon such as this or with a werewolf for example it makes perfect sense to have a bluish tint. If its fire then orange. If something black then it makes sense to have blue highlights.

If he drew unicorns or something else more "bright" i would expect something completely different.

Everyone has their own art style, and to be honest you sound like a brat trying to demand what you want. That's why we have multiple artists that we love, because each one appeals to our senses in different ways. He loves to draw dragons, so of course his color scheme will be as it is. One of my other favorite artists always does her drawings in blue tints and shades, but they're still amazing

@theraVen27 i know you've probably already received a load of flack for what you said in this post, so i'm not going to do that. if you truly believe that every one of his paintings is the same (orange/teal combos, dragons, etc) then go to his channel and check out some of his photo realistic paintings. i especially love the portrait of sarah. yeah, he has a preferred way of creating things, but so does every artist. it's called a process. his is this. but it's definitely not all he does.
