  • Hella beautiful edit! Props!

  • ORIGINAL SUCKS BALLS

  • Wow this is stunning! I was thinking of getting this camera. How'd you get the final product to have such stable pans? I understand you used a monopod, but what, you just carried it around?

  • @leopardstar151 A steady hand comes from much practice!

  • @RossCharnock Thanks for replying :D

I was wondering though, right now, with where camcorders are technology-wise, would you recommend one that records to digital or DV? I haven't seen many digital HD ones with an even decent manual focus let alone manual focus at all. I know now you use the 7D.

  • @leopardstar151 I would def say to go with solid state. The only downside of it is you need a pretty speedy machine to edit the footage, but you can always just edit with proxies (what I do with my 7D, and MBP). As for manual controls, I found the only thing I used on my Hv40 was the Tv Mode to set the shutter to 50, didn't use manual focus as it was too finicky. If you want manual control check out panasonics (think the T300).

  • @RossCharnock oh wow that helped a lot :D I'm probably considering getting maybe the Canon HF S200 now or one of the panasonics.

    :D

  • It's an awesome vid, no doubt. I'm guessing you don't board too often?? And you used an Original board?? A Tan Tien would be a great investment to the longboarding community and your health =)

  • @Codius26 Are you talking about me or the rider? If it's the rider take a look at some of the older comments... At the time I made this I was riding at least 4 times a week. Lately I've been so busy (3 jobs + life) that I haven't been riding much :( I'll take any Tan Tien that someone can send me ;)

  • @RossCharnock Well it's just probably the style the rider has that throws me off, I do alot of DH, dancing and commuting. It's harder in the winter months in WA, it's a torential downpoor 7 months of the year. And, yeah, life does catch up to you. Friends and a job are priority, doesn't mean you can't chill and go for a ride with your friends or to your job. If you got 250$ I could get that to you ;)

  • Nice video man. What camera are you using?

  • @Steeert Thanks :) This was shot on the Canon Hv40 at 30p. Nowadays shooting with the 7D!

  • Nice color correction!!!!!

  • @VidPro95 Thanks :) But I actually did hardly any... the light and colours just looked like that straight out of the camera...

  • Hey this is a really good vid. I normally dont like to many videos that use "the seasons" for their skate track but you have earned it this is very good

  • @UT3lord Thanks :) Should have used a different track though. I took the easy way out...

  • @RossCharnock haha fair enough

  • arrkk

  • Nice Video!!

Hey, Ross , What was the Software for the color correction and the Filters you used?

I am about to get this same Cam this Summer. -neto

  • @netofujarte Hi. I used manly the 3-way colour correction filter in Final Cut Pro, but I actually did very little grading, most of the look was created just by the light at the time. For 2 shots I used Magic Bullet Looks, but only because I shot them slightly later in the day and it was difficult to get them looking like the other footage. Hv40 is a good camera, but personally I'd think about going solid state if it were me...

  • @RossCharnock

    Thanks, Ross!

I'm new on this , but I wil get my self a VideoCam.

  • awsome filming man but no talent any body can kick and push why not though some cross stepping or shove its the shots you got are buitiful but the boarding sucked

  • Thanks. This was an entry to the Loaded October competition, and as stipulated in the rules there weren't allowed to be any tricks in the video...

  • oh ok man lol then sick video amazing shots

  • i love your shots, how did you get them so smooth?

nice choice w/ the dodos, i even use them for my skate vids

you should see dvs skate and create video

  • @Germanychrisjapan I just used a monopod. It's a great cheap "steadycam" (<-- yes, sarcasm font is need :P). Just beware bailing while filming with one... that's how I broke my cam...

  • Hey great video! It's now a fave ...who sings this song?

  • Thanks :) It's "the season" by the Dodos

  • hey ross.

this is an absolutely beautiful piece of work.

each shot is very focused and with point. i like that, its almost like an equation. a+b=c.

    skating was good, very relaxing.

i would however liked to see a different soundtrack. as a filmer you must push yourself outside of the knowns. and please take that as something to help from a bud.

5 big stars and many warm wishes.

    dutch

  • Thanks for the words Dutch.

You're right about the track though, totally took the easy road with it. It's one of the things that I really battle with (and you're really good at), and unfortunately I think I've done the same with my current edit... but I'll just have to try push myself the next time 'round.

    Cheers from SA!

    Ross

  • I personally think it should have been 1! Congratulations on the cinematography and editing!

  • wow nice video! i loved the lightning and the dolphin at the end!! it was cute! clever title. :D

  • Hey where is this? Melbourne?

  • Port Elizabeth, South Africa

  • The filming is great ,but the rider could be better(no skills)!but the vid is nice

  • The whole point of the competition was creative skill, thus the it was in the rules that there weren't allowed to be any tricks in the video.

  • Yeah dude if looked into the hole point of the competitions was just for calm riding no tricks/skill.

  • what song is this?

  • GO ORIGINAL. perfect lighting most of the time man, nice.

  • I love the whole thing, super crisp and love the colors at sunset. The dolphin is so amazing. I thought you would get first.

  • thats really good :D

i like it how you are riding an original and the music is from originals video 'go longboarding 2009'

  • jayme roges is better , but this is still good

  • luv'ed it good luck with the ankle..

  • awsome! love the apex haha.

  • camerawork was sooo smooth. Looked professional.

  • for sure should have been # 2 not #3, much better than that animated video. Great work, wish i could keep watching and it didn't end!

  • great video. The location is prime.

  • Oh well that stinks! Its great to finally see women longboarding!!!

  • that song is so amazing for longboarding

  • Lol you can tell by the way she kicks that she doesnt longboard ...

  • Actually she does... her ankle is just messed so she has to wear a brace... which causes her to push like that.

  • at first first i wuz thinking bout how everyones using this song that original used but the amazing graphics editing short but original story line made it seem like a commercial great job!!!!

  • damn everybody's using this song after the last go longboard video, amazing music tho, great video, cool skating.

  • Thanks. I figured I'd get lots of comments about the song... I actually loved this song a long time before the "Go Longboarding" hit the 'tubes... but point taken :P

  • nice work man

  • really nice!

  • very nice, so crisp., well shot. what kind of camera are you using?

  • Thanks. It's a Canon HV40.

  • whats the song name i love it

  • the seasons by the dodos
