Go back and look at the stats of game 5: Shaquille O'Neal, the most fouled player in NBA HISTORY got one free throw in this game. Not one set of free throws - ONE TOTAL FREE THROW. If the refs gifted game 6 to the Lakers, then they DEFINITELY gifted game 5 to the Kings.
How is it a favor? Even if Shaq is a poor FT shooter, if he is awarded 12 free throws (like he should have been) and shoots at his usual 50% he still gets 6 points...which is essentially like shooting 50% from the field, the point is, the Kings should have been in much greater foul trouble and the Lakers should have been in the penalty in every single quarter of game 5. The refs only did the Kings favors in game 5.

Regardless, the point i'm trying to make is that the refs impacted the game so heavily that the Kings had no chance to win and that is obviously unfair. It was the best team of the world, but the Maloofs kills it. Mike is still one of the top 5 PG's in the league. Atlanta must be very lucky with him. It was a great present to the Hawks from the Maloofs.

Go back and look at the stats of game 5: Shaquille O'Neal, the most fouled player in NBA HISTORY got one free throw in this game. Not one set of free throws - ONE TOTAL FREE THROW. If the refs gifted game 6 to the Lakers, then they DEFINITELY gifted game 5 to the Kings.

How is it a favor? Even if Shaq is a poor FT shooter, if he is awarded 12 free throws (like he should have been) and shoots at his usual 50% he still gets 6 points...which is essentially like shooting 50% from the field, the point is, the Kings should have been in much greater foul trouble and the Lakers should have been in the penalty in every single quarter of game 5. The refs only did the Kings favors in game 5.

I was in Staples Center recently and I looked up and low and behold, the banner was raised high saying "NBA Champions 2001-2002 Los Angeles Lakers" I haven't been to Arco Arena recently, if it's even still there, but I'm sure there isn't a banner for the Kings saying "NBA Champions 2001-2002". You guys might have gotten a "Semi-final winners 2001-2002", but no more than that. You got to beat an East Coast team to win the finals, and the Kings didn't get there.

A referee that wasn't involved in the game and was trying to get a reduced sentence claimed that *a* game was fixed, not THAT series.
If the league was angling for a 7-game series, then they started in Game 5, which was officiated even worse than Game 6 but in the Kings' favor. The bottom line is the Kings choked in Game 7 and the better team won.
