  • Good grief, I'm totally confused - glad I didn't start driving til 1998!

  • wait a minute you Brits have 95 octane, we only have at most 93

  • @kernals12 We even get 99 Octane from Shell ;)

  • what's with the high octane confusion in Britain, I mean here in America we have no problem with figuring if our cars need regular 87 octane or premium 91 and 93 octane.

  • remember when it was 75p a litre. Back then It was quite costly to convert from 4 star to UL. 4 star was toxic smelly.

  • Texaco Gift Catalog!! I'm still holding out for that Sega Megadrive

  • 20 yrs on and the oil industry is still doing as little as it can possibly get away with.

  • I used to get leaded on payday and the rest of the month the poor car had to make do with unleaded. A bit like having steak once a month and beans on toast the rest of the month.

  • 38.4P Per Liter!

  • 1,71 a gallon not a litre yes a gallon

  • what is the truth about leaded/unleaded petrol? I remember seeing a prog where it was found that fumes and emissions from leaded petrol were actually safer than the fumes from unleaded petrol.all very confusing.

  • 40p a litre....wow.

Wonder how much the tax was on it back then? Probably not as near as much as it is now!

  • The four oil companies shown in the film are now two. ExxonMobil and BPAmoco.

  • i remember leaded petrol!

    Those were the days.

  • wow look at the pump, now the price is more than the litres!!!

  • Unleaded petrol. What a stupid idea, that'll never catch on.

  • @Bluenile38 yeah, it's been the standard fuel since the nineties and you can't buy leaded fuel anymore

  • Shit I WISH I could get 95 octane gas!

  • @ScLeCo Why can't you?

  • damn prices where cheap then!

  • Leaded petrol was banned in the European Union in 2000.

  • £1.71 per gallon thats under 40p a litre... those were the days

  • @energymc22 i know we now face between £1.38-£1.48 per litre (incorporating petrol and diesel prices) so nearly 4.5 times the amount of 22 years ago and the price of oil although it has increased hasnt increased proportunately

our government takes 80% (could be more now) in fuel duty

    i think its disgusting

my car takes £70 to fill up from near empty £70! i could buy two weeks of shopping for that, if petrol was at the price it was then it would cost me about £14-15 i think its extortionate

  • @voiceofreason2008 I spend £110 to fill my van with diesel every 10 days or so :(

  • oo ye u did soz my mistake late eighties i guess

  • when did britain begin the switch from leaded to unleaded?

  • cuz its better for the environment

  • @ysivyboi1 Jury still out there!

  • when, I said when! Here in the US, it began in the early 70's

  • @bajabusta It was about 1988 when unleaded petrol became available at British service stations.

  • ah thank you!

  • @bajabusta late 1980's to early 1990's

  • @bajabusta In the late 90's i believe. I was born in 94 and i can remember leaded petrol being on sale. I've had a look around and it was banned in the US. I know it's banned here but i can't remember when it was banned.

  • @bajabusta not sure when it started but leaded was banned in 2000
