what's with the high octane confusion in Britain, I mean here in America we have no problem with figuring if our cars need regular 87 octane or premium 91 and 93 octane.
I used to get leaded on payday and the rest of the month the poor car had to make do with unleaded. A bit like having steak once a month and beans on toast the rest of the month.
what is the truth about leaded/unleaded petrol? I remember seeing a prog where it was found that fumes and emissions from leaded petrol were actually safer than the fumes from unleaded petrol.all very confusing.
@energymc22 i know we now face between £1.38-£1.48 per litre (incorporating petrol and diesel prices) so nearly 4.5 times the amount of 22 years ago and the price of oil although it has increased hasnt increased proportunately
our government takes 80% (could be more now) in fuel duty
i think its disgusting
my car takes £70 to fill up from near empty £70! i could buy two weeks of shopping for that, if petrol was at the price it was then it would cost me about £14-15 i think its extortionate
@bajabusta In the late 90's i believe. I was born in 94 and i can remember leaded petrol being on sale. I've had a look around and it was banned in the US. I know it's banned here but i can't remember when it was banned.
Good grief, I'm totally confused - glad I didn't start driving til 1998!

remember when it was 75p a litre. Back then It was quite costly to convert from 4 star to UL. 4 star was toxic smelly.

40p a litre....wow.
Wonder how much the tax was on it back then? Probably not as near as much as it is now!
