When I heard the 南音, my eyes always welled with tears. I'm English educated but I also fond of 嶺南文化.
I guess if people who grew up in the late '50, '60 & early '70, Chinese cultural still had a big part to influence them, hence, most of them won't have huge resistance towards 粵曲, so to speak.
Nowadays, a lot of people are not good at both languages. Most seriously is that 嶺南文化 got depreciated & abandoned after 1997, IMHO. I really don't want it withered away.
I am 20+ and I started to like 南音 when I was under 20. I think 南音 can truly represent the 情韻 of 嶺南文化 instead of 粵劇.南音一唱三嘆, is more 致遠 then 粵劇 actually. I feel sorry that the HK ppl don't know any about 嶺南音化 now, no matter about its music and drawing...
@yuetkukoihoje hi buddy, exactly, nowadays especially in hongkong, students' english + chinese language ability is very very poor. nan yin itself is not only music, it is Art.
when i was a kid, my grandma and or neighbor usually listened to radio [their only entertainment] with lots of nan yin and chinese opera, that stemmed my like to them, hahaha

I was not abusing anything.....been trying to get through a message, but it seems the YouTube got problem......so tried different way. will try later with a message I typed in Chinese.
Thank you very sharing. This is the first time I hear this song in original sound. Hope to have the full version of this song. (I read from some websites that the song should be last for 15-16 minute. Is it correct?)
Besides the lyrics shown above, there is a second section that goes: "Mun gig pork, yea sahm gawn--". Translation: Listening to the striking of the "pork" (a wooden block); it is now third "gawn" (a night period). Also, any video or music too long to be uploaded one time could be uploaded many times, by a portion each time (Part 1, Part 2 etc.). We would all appreciate it if you would try doing it. Thank you.
Thank you. I was able to hear the entire song by clicking the site shown at the end of the lyrics. That was great! Bak Keu Wing was blind when he came to my village to perform in 1947. He had to be lead to walk the stage when he arrived. There were no microphones, and kerosene lamps were used for lighting.
My Father-in-law had this record. It was his favorite. He was a Cantonese opera impresario in Quangzhou in the 1940's. That record has long been lost. Thank you very much for letting me hear it again.
Thx very very much to post it for us to have a chance to listen it instead of other version like andy lau and anita mui... for us to know the original sound... thanks again!!!

cschan369 2 years ago
