Why is that SO many say that "Keikos release was a complete failure, he starved to death right after they set him free!"
He lived for 5 Years in the Ocean! And he certainly did not starve to death. He traveled from Iceland to Norway alone, nobody saw him, but when he showed up in Norway he hadn't lost any weight! He fed himself all the time. But he sadly didn't find his pod, that's probably why he went back to humans so they could feed him. But He lived happy and FREE the rest of his life...
One more thing. They are by no means gready. They have so darn many conservation projects going on. If they were gready then those whales would have only half of the luxury that they have now. The whales are not slaves either. After the trainers were unable to swim with the whales I went to see the shows. Compared to when the trainers were in the water, those whales were depressed. They moved so slowly. Earlier they sped and had fun. Also, tilicum cried. That is right, he cried for his trainer.
How can you release them? If those baby whales copy the mothers and those mothers copied their mothers then how can it be possible. It would be like kieko may he rest in peace all over again. Remember that without these parks you would not even have seen how amazing they are. They are not captured anymore then I would be against them. you can give a dog 5 star treatment and it would be fine. Give an amazing animal 5 star treatment and it is wrong to people. I simply do not get it.
I do not see how it is possible. If the babies copy what the mothers do then tell me how could they live in the wild without any knowledge of it. Keiko did it and what happened to him? He died. He had become so dependent on humans he could not survive in the wild. You also have to remember that if it werent for Seaworld and all of the other parks, you would not have seen these animals. So why blame them if they were the ones who showed you these animals in the first place?
It pisses me off how lots of comments say about freeing the whale yet they still the shows but if you guy are such talk why dont you guys free them yourselves
According to the standard phylogenetic tree, whales are known to be the descendants of terrestrial mammals that had hindlimbs. There are many cases where whales have been found with rudimentary atavistic hindlimbs in the wild. Notably Kyoquot station, Vancouver island 1919 case . For super books about nature & science try, ' The greatest show on earth ' & ' Unweaving the rainbow ' by scientist Richard Dawkins, also try PZ Meyers, Talkorigins
people say they are "cute" in captivity because they most likely wont try to kill you. Unlike in the wild, if the orca is hungry, its gonna have itself some yummy human full of fat :3
What do you mean? There is no danger of sharks to killer whales because some orcas eat sharks in the wild (including great white sharks) also the japanese dont hunt killer whales. and the southern resident popluation has been increasing steadily for the last few years, so captivity is not an excuse.
My opinion: stop breeding whales in captivity. Let the whales that are still there live their lives as happy and comfortable as possible. They can't be set free anymore, but at least we don't force their fate up on their offspring.
@Adamazingxoxo9 You do know that the animals "captured" for SeaWorld are recovering/ed animals that were injured and can't be released due to long recuperation time and any others are the ones that are born in captivity (sometimes not even planned)? I was actually at SeaWorld 2 days ago and learned this, plus a little research goes a long way. I realize that you think you're helping the "greater good" but posting comments on home videos of a good memory at seaworld is not the way to do it.
@FMAluver14 No, sorry. A long time ago, killer whales were caught to perform. That doesn't happen anymore, but fact is it DID happen. Seaworld even made sure the captures would take place. Nowadays killer whales aren't caught anymore, except in Russia.
@B4Malfoy The very first Shamu was a recovered Orca, along with a the rest, except those born there. :| research and actually going to he park helps.
@FMAluver14 The first captured killer whale was captured by accident. Then they caught a female orca to keep him company, Shamu. She was brought to Seaworld later. Now my dear, do you really believe that all the killer whales that ever lived in captivity were injured and rescued? No. What I said, NOWADAYS they don't capture orcas anymore. So, I did my research and I went to Seaworld. No problems there.
@FMAluver14@FMAluver14 Yes, some are BORN IN CAPTIVITY!. But their poor parents were brutaly captured from their homes. God, you're sooo naive! How can you possibly believe that all these orcas were injured and rescued?!?! Of course not, I refer you to the story of Lolita, search for "Killer whale death penalty", watch the videos and open your eyes.
There you go. If I still haven't convinced you, I give up. It's your choice you don't want to see the truth.
@B4Malfoy oh good god, would you actually take a step back and read what the hell you put down? You make yourself sound like your a 14 year old girl losing an argument. Now, as i HOPE you know, it was outlawed in the U.S. to capture animals for entertainment purposes. Please learn this well 9_9
@FMAluver14 Oops, sorry, I let myself slip. Yes, you are correct that it was outlawed in the US. Pacific orcas weren´t caught anymore, so they took them from Iceland and Japan. Have you watched the videos I refered to? I just want you to understand that not all the orcas in captivity were rescued. To be honest, none of them were. The only rescued orcas are Pascuala (don't know how to spell it) and Morgan. Pascuala is dead now, and Morgan is in the Netherlands.
@B4Malfoy Killer Whales captures are in fact NOT out-lawed in the USA... the Display Parks made sure of that in 1994 with the MMPA amendments... I'll send you a copy right now to your Channel.... anyone else who wants this MMPA amendment please feel free to inquire.
@FMAluver14 It is illegal NOW that orcas are protected under law BECAUSE their pods were wiped out by captures for marine parks. If you had done ANY research whatsoever, you'd know that orcas have no natural predators except for humans. And how on earth is captivity a better life? If they were to be truly rescued they would have been set back with their families, not placed in artificial families and expected to thrive in such an enviornment, which they don't even in this day and age.
And finally, stop saying "free the whales" you free these whales and they die, they have either been in captivity too
long to go back, or were born in captivity and would never be able to survive out there. You really need to observe these whales IN PERSON and then make your desicion. Read the facts. and mail me, I have NO problem arguing about this.
natural for these animals.? They jump all the time in the wild, twirling and spinning. They just do it on command here, and they aren't being forced either. You can't make any animal do what it doesn't want to do. These animals enjoy seeing our high energy as they breach from the water and visit them in the viewing tank. They are curious about us as we are of them.
as long as they are surrounded by their friends, family, toys and their trainers. These whales get treated fantastically. They have delicous treats/snacks. Yeah they only get a little food during shows, but they perform multiple times, getting tons and tons of fish. even behind the scenes they are getting fed while the others perform. During shows each of the whales perform certain parts not the whole thing.! so they don't get tired/worn out or bored.?
I love this, Nakai looks just like his mother <3. Anyways you anti-captivity people are STUPID, you need to really research these animals before you complain. These animals love people. The size of the tank does not matter(which is actually big) (our view of inside the tank makes it look smaller, but there are 4 tanks total, and they get to go in all of them at certain times. They are actually quite large and quite? deep, perfect for these large animals)
@Gally50, Sorry I messed up my first post, I fixed it now, to read properly. I need to pay better attention I just get upset when people think that Orca are happy in a cement pool. There is so much misinformation out there and Sea World perpetuates most of it. Glad we are on the same page :) To person who posted the video...its cute but captivity is not!
Legend7293 wow,you can read Orca facial expressions? Actually they dont have any! Also where do you get the idea that an Orca pod would reject their family members? Lolita is probably the only captive Orca that could successfully be released. Her pod has been studied for years and the females of the pod have a history of longevity. Also her teeth are in perfect condition.Tilly would not be a candidate for release due to his teeth. He needs a sea pen. Also Corky from SW SD is a wild caught Orca.
@aspiemom42 your are right and i was wrong . I'm sorry. It actually wasn't obvious to me at the time as i had received several negative comments on the same day, over a post i had made several months ago, and i was replying to them all in rather a hurry. Once again I am very sorry.
So yeah, you're right, we can't just put them back in the ocean, they would die, but giving them a better life in a seapen is definetely something we can do (and ofcourse, try to release Lolita & Kshamenk **And Morgan, if they find her pod**) So stop going to places like Miami seaquarium, Seaworld & other places with captive orcas, If you do, they'll just continue to keep them there as long as they can make more money of them.
*not saying that all captivity is bad, but in most cases*
The best for them would be to retire in a seapen, if it where not for the fact that they have their own babies (or adoptive babies in Corky's case) It would be cruel to take them away, but at the same time seaworld separates them all the time, breaking strong familybonds and friendships.
In, for example Tilikums case, the best for him would be to live out his life in a seapen. The same for Uly.
Lolita & Kshamenk is probably the only orcas left in captivity who can be released (continue)
If by bet you mean "beat" that is something that does NOT go on. You can believe all you want about orcas in captivity but SeaWorld does not beat their animals. The behavior in the video was not a command.
@Little123Fizz I agree on that one statement about the sharks too. Sharks may attack and kill but no animal should be blamed for taking a life of a human cause they dont know what they are doing. I wish people would not kill animals at all. It makes me sad. Not only do we need to save the whales, we need to save the sharks as well and not stop their we need to save all living creatures on this earth from killer man. @supermestar <3 the video. I have never scene a whale belly dance. :-)
I don't feel sorry at all for the trainers who die or is hurt by these magnificent animals.. I feel sorry for the animals cause nobody seems to get the message.. Its animal cruelty at its worse to keep them in captivity... How can people be so ignorant just because of their own amusement... I hope people who watch these shows would use their brains instead of being idiots... Watch the cove and get a knowledge on the subject instead of being so fucking selfish!!
Just remember all you animal lovers while watching this lustful display of debauchery, it is a sin to spill thy seed except into the belly of a woman!! You sick bastards....
HOW CAN ANYBODY SUPPORT THIS? TO EVERYONE WHO LOVE WALES AND DOLPHINES: PLEASE NEVER GO TO SEAWORLD OR SHOWS LIKE THIS AND SUPPORT THIS CRUELTY BY BUYING TICKETS!! NEVER!! FREEDOM FOR EVERY POOR WALE WHO HAS TO SPENT HIS TIME WITH SILLY, BORING TRICKS!!
@moledragon They are fed no matter what. If they do something wrong, they use posititve reinforcement by feeding them again and then having them try the trick, or whatever reinforcement they want them to do again, if not, they do the same thing again.
@moledragonokay first of all nakai was born at sea world along with most of their orcas.sea world hasnt bought a animal from the wild in a very long time.its actually illegal in the US to take marine animals from the wild unless they are injured and are planned to be put back.next the orcas get fed no matter what they arent forced to do a show or anything if they dont want too and honestly the whales like doing this stuff because it keeps them stimulated.and they have 7 huge tanks not just one.
@jobot86 um don't call me call me a idiot asshole. My dog is probably twenty times smarter than you so why dont you just shove it up your ass. I have no problem with you stating your opinion I have a issue with you call me a idiot. So really your probably a 65 year old man behind a computer screen insulting people because your insecure with yourself in real life so you think you are all high and mighty insulting behind a screen. have fun with that..
@jobot86 You're wrong. Sometimes aquarium or sea world life is safer for the animals. I mean look at the BP oil spill! A lot of marine life is affected by that. Also marine animals born in captivity can not survive in the wild because even though they have enrichment items, they possess no survival skills so putting them in the ocean is like a death sentence.
@samuraihei7 Just because a whale was born into captivity doesn't make it domesticated. Captive born whales are still very much wild with survival instincts. Just like your cat still has some wild behaviors, and that's after hundreds of years of domestication. So you're wrong. since 1961 134 orcas have been taken from the wild of those 107 (79%) are now dead. Even more disturbing is that 55 know births have happened in captivity but only 21 have survived so 38% survival rate.
@samuraihei7 mean while in the wild the MORTALITY rate for calves is 40%. So 62% of calves born into captivity die. Where as 40% in the wild die. And they have to deal with oil spills!!! You people trying to save animals from the wild is sickening. Animals are NOT ours for entertainment. 4 whales and a person have lost their lives this year due to this industry, are you not entertained yet? When are we going to end this madness...
@Little123Fizz So you rather they die in their natural environment because they lack the skills to survive. They are wild animals and I never said they were domesticated but do you really think they have any chance surviving in the wild if they lived from birth at a aquarium? What do you think the purpose of an aquarium is or have you been watching too much Free willy (which by the way is an excellent movie)? Statistics are only from a controlled study not the whole population of orcas.
@Little123Fizz you know what? This argument is ridiculous. You believe what you believe and I believe what I believe. Are you a marine biologist or can you only report statistics. If you think I support animals being taken out of the wild or not being in the wild then you are wrong. By the way, you know what is real madness? The shark population has declined 97% and may be extinct by 2018; is there no end to shark fining? why do multimillion illegal fining businesses exist? Sharks deserve life.
@Cranma5678 only 2 of the 7 tanks at shamu stadium are deeper than he is long. The pacific Ocean is huge, the pools are not. Orca can dive to depths of hundreds of feet and can swim around 100 kilometers a day. Obviously this is taken away from them in captivity. Seaworld captive breeding program is contrary to conservation as the main purpose is to keep the bred animals in captivity for profit & "entertainment". Tilikum was taken from the wild & remains in isolation today.
is there not better things to do people? these animals are treated very well and cared for and loved and have their family with them. if you care for animals as much as you why dont you do something useful like help the dolphins by japan and such being horrivly murdered or help the beluga whales being killed or even help abused pets those animals need real help not the well treated sea world ones!
@Cranma5678 --I feel the same way about money being spent on keeping mentally damaged humans alive in hospital beds when kids without food are wandering the streets with no money or parents. But little do you know that these "well treated" sea world animals are actually prisoners, dying to get OUT !
@durgaaa but you do know that most of those orcas were born in captivity right? so releasing them would be horrible idea. and releasing the ones that were taken from the wild would die because they rely on man now. what happened to keiko is a good example of that
@WillTheDiscusGuy The average lifespan of a dolphin ranges from about 17 years to about 25 years, with no significant difference between dolphins in the wild and in captivity. Females tend to live longer than males, and are the only dolphins known to stay alive more than 50 years. One female at the Dolphin Research Center in Grass Key, Florida is in her early 50s as of 2008 though it is very rare for any to reach that age.
Poor whale. He is meant to be swimming almost a hundred miles a day in the vast ocean with his family, diving 500 feet, and using his echolocation and amazing acoustic skills to explore the sea.Instead he is trapped in a tiny concrete box(prison)doing low grade entertainment tricks for ignorant SOB'S who are brainwashed by this multi million dollar industry to think this is educational.Greed.Greed.Greed. Pathetic. The day the first orca was put in a tank was the day humanity failed. That is all.

@evanbland He is with his family and has never known the ocean so he can't miss it. The tricks are not "low grade" either. Learning them keeps the whales entertaining and enriches their routine. You failed to mention how he recieves love and care from his amazing trainers, literally world-class medical care and a 7 million gallon pool complex. And noone is brainwashed, either. SeaWorld donated $6million last year to rescue and rehab for injured animals. How is this greed? Enlighten me.
@missnoodles996 Noodles your comment, "And noone is brainwashed, either. SeaWorld donated $6million last year to rescue and rehab for injured animals. How is this greed? Enlighten me", again shows how blindly you are caught up with this Cult. Sea World has never donated this amount of money ever... this six million is the amount SW has donated to those it chooses since 2003, Sea World has been trying in the last seven years to re-package itself.
@evanbland “Nothing is more powerful than an individual acting out of his conscience, thus helping to bring the collective conscience to life.” - Norman Cousins
ok so they live in the aquarium already, but at least they should stop the shows. just so people can look at them, it's the better because they shouldn't be forced to have shows...i don't think they like doing shows everyday 40 times...isn't looking at them just fine? why do we have to make them do stuff?!
@omerzoref The orcas do shows to get exercise. It's obvious that their enclosures are smaller than the ocean, so doing various jumping behaviours helps them to burn calories and build muscle, while also getting the mental stimulation of following hand signals. No orca is ever forced to participate, shows are either canceled or parts left out if a whale does not want to participate.
@omerzoref bull shit if they didnt like doing the shows they wouldnt do them do u really think a HUGE killer whale would let some pathetic human being boss it around? no it wouldnt they whales enjoy doing the shows and they make the whales happy
@shamuroxy whales like attention! and im sure they love being the center of attention in the show! gosh people are so retarded honestly haha if i were a whale id freakin love sea world food love doctors friends entertainment they got it all ha
@Cranma5678 exactly everyone just likes to bash seaworld cuz its supposedly a horrible place and the whales r mistreated and forced to perform but they rnt! it really annoys me wen ppl r all ooooh thats so sad they belong in the wild
@shamuroxy its so true and i mean come on they are freakin huge they dont do anything they dont wanna do they know even if they dont they still get fed so why would they do it if they didnt wanna? haha
@omerzoref are you stupid? they do shows like 5 times a day, if their lucky.thats it.... if they don't want to do it they don't
they do let them rest and everything. and if they didn't want to do the shows, they don't do them. and the trainers just leave them be and don't force them to do it. i mean honestly how do you expect somebody 5'4, 120 lbs to force/boss around animals that are 8 to 14 feet plus weighing 5 times as muchas the human? congratulations, you officially made yourself look dumb.
@omerzoref the orcas only have about 6 shows a day(im looking at the show schedule right now) they also switch out the whales and the parts so they dont do them all and lastly the orcas love the attention and the workout they get from the show.
@omerzoref Simple. The shows aren't for entertainment at all, so do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Putting them in a pool however massive and just leaving them there is cruelty, so training and shows enrich their routine and keeps them learning. The seem to like performing! There are about 4 shows a day and never at the same times twice, like the whales routine, they change daily to stop them getting bored.
@missnoodles996 Ok, but they can't be working with them every second. Think about it, they have that pool to swim around in 24-7. Not that it's very long considering they die at around 23-30 years when in the wild they can live to be 90. Also, orcas are ALWAYS vocalizing. When they echo, they sound bounces right back to them because it hits a wall. Think of how annoying that would be. There are so many other reasons why orcas are not suited for captivity like other animals are
@PacificOrcas They can't be working with them every second, of course not. Orcas in the wild CAN live to 90 years, this is a maximum. Like some humans CAN live to 100, but some die aged 60. Think of Lolita, she's already 40 years old and in a tiny tank, and Katina is around 34. And all the whales apart from Kalina (no results yet) who have died this year had a cause of death not related to captivity, so you can't say that their deaths mean they are not taken care of.
@missnoodles996 All I'm saying is that there is no better place for tham than in the ocean. Humans try to keep them alive in captivity, but it just doesn't work. We don't have the skills to keep them alive ourselves. There is no possible way we can immitate the ocean. The ocean is the only place where they truly belong
@PacificOrcas I know there isn't. Of course there would be no place better, especially for the older whales, than the ocean. But in the last few decades our ability to care for them has started to get better, and all I'M saying is that captivity needn't mean they are unhappy or badly looked after. Agreed?
@missnoodles996 I believe that for the born in captivity orcas, but the ones who were captured (Tilikum, Katina, Lolita, Corky, Ulises, and any others I missed) I think are unhappy, because they miss their families and need to be released as soon as possible
@PacificOrcas They were captured 30 years ago, or more. They have kids with them and a pod, whether it's their natural one or not. I actually think that Tilly should be released as he is just so massive (and possibly dangerous) and Lolita at least needs a tank about 4 times the size of the one she has now. Releasing Katina would be a bad idea as she has a newborn calf and a 4 year old with her too.
@missnoodles996 Well, yes, releasing Katina now would be dangerous for her and her calf. But in 10 years or so, it would be completely safe. Orcas and other cetaceans have excellent memory. They can remember something that happened to them for over 75 years. So all the wild-caught orcas do remember their families, and they miss them. Family is the most inportant thing in an orca's life. If the wild caught orcas saw their families, they would be extatic and forget about humans very fast
@PacificOrcas And you think that they would just forget about their trainers, who they have been with and trusted all their lives, forget about their pod at SeaWorld and their babies there, and swim off and live happily ever after? I think not. They are used to being hand-fed, and used to their daily interactions. It would not be as simple as you make it out to be. Possible, yes, but risky, expensive and it would take a very long time. They would miss their families at SeaWorld, too.
@missnoodles996 One thing you forgot to consider is that all of those orcas are from different pods. They all have different "languages". They can't talk to each other. Pod members can only talk to pod members. Also, the orcas don't bond with the trainers. They simply tolerate them because they know that's where the food comes from. Orcas only bond with their pod. Studies have shown that captive orcas are under tremendous stress 24/7 due to the small space and echoes bouncing off the tank walls
@PacificOrcas Of course they bond with their trainers. They spend 3 years with them before they get into the water, and do you really think that they would allow them in their pool if they weren't comfortable with it? And it's not only food, they give them love, care, enrichment e.g. kelp, and everything they need. They trust them.
@missnoodles996 the very concept of "looking after" a killer whale is flawed. All they need is for us to leave them alone & protect their habitat. They can dive for hundreds of feet in the wild & swim up to 100 miles in a day. Unfortunately people by nature are selfish, keeping orca in captivity is selfish, i see you from your channel that none of your favourites are of wild orca in their natural environment. Why is that. Are they only "cute" in captivity?
@gally50 Of course they're cute in the wild too. But, like most people, the only place I'm going to be able to see them is places like SeaWorld, at least until I'm old enough to see them in the wild, anyway. I know the wild is better, but I just think that it is possible for them to be happy in captivity, too.
@gally50 do your research..Shamu and Katina are the only ones SW have ever captured and that was before the protocols for seaworld were established. all the other adult whales that seaworld parks have were either born in captivity and therefore can never be put into the wild or where rescued from dying and can not be put pack because there pod would not accept them back and they would die. They are incredible happy you just see it on there face..dont make it sound like people just caught them all
How about Kasatka, Nakai and kalias mom? She was not rescued, she was caught.
And Corky 2, Ulises, Tilikum, and not to mention all those who are now dead that was wild caught.
Okay, These orcas that I mentioned Can probably not be released, for various reasons, but what they all have in common is that the trainers and vets have drilled holes in their teeth, and the holes most be flushed with water thrice a day so they wont get any nasty infections (continue)
@gally50 I am a fan of whales and dolphins in general, wild or captive. Yes, they have more freedom in the wild but you do realize that a majority of the whales and dolphins (heck even sea turtles!) at SeaWorld or any other marine park are either BORN in captivity (which means they CANNOT be released into the wild) or taken in because they were injured. So no, we are not being selfish we are protecting them from an almost certain death. Ever read what happened to Keiko (Free Willy) after we set
@gally50 him free? HE DIED because he could not fend for himself in the wild. If we knew for sure that they could protect themselves or even HUNT I'm pretty sure we would let them go. So unfortunately, your argument is invalid. Thank you and have a nice day. c:
@Koolkat197 Tilikum is the one who needs it the most, but I still think he is happy where he is and it really wouldn't matter if he wasn't ever released. He still has the love and care of the trainers, and i think if he ever was released then we'd just have keiko all over again.
@missnoodles996 Why do you assume he's happy? Tilikum shows signs of stress reguraly. The trainers love the orcas and treat them very well, but that still doesn't change the fact that they aren't where they belong. Perhaps we could move them to a sea-pen...
@B4Malfoy I actually think that Tilly and Lolita at least should be moved to sea pens, but the others interact normally and aren't aggressive. I believe that they are happy because I really don't think that unhappy whales would behave as these do e.g. eating VERY well, playing, socialising, and performing. They wouldn't be as lively as they are if they were miserable.
@missnoodles996 I wont lie, Normally I would be angry at the whole sea pen, free the whales thing. But I actually can agree with this statement. Sea Pens for the larger whales with the chance of aggression could go to a sea pen, while the other more playful and sociable whales stay. I give you cheers for this reply.
@missnoodles996 ---Most captivity IS bad. The only way for you to know that is to visit each and every aquarium in every country and to know human and corporate psychology. I have seen enough, especially in the USA, and I know the bottom line is money. Big corporate money does not care a HOOT for any animal's well being. Please stop being naieve.
@durgaaa If they didn't care about the animal's wellbeing, would they have a 7 million gallon pool complex with extensions planned? Have 24 trainers with them 24 hours a day? Be fed restaurant-quality fish? No. I think not. I can't say that the high-up people don't care about money at all, but these people don't get near the whales and they've given $6million to marine charities either way. The only ones look after the whales are the trainers who spend years building up trust with them.
@missnoodles996 Wild animals in the Ocean do not need "restaurant quality fish" nor do they need trainers 24 hours a day. They need freedom to be with thier own kind- dozens of their own kind and to swim without borders! Jaques Cousteau knew this. But you do not !
@TweadleDeda ACTUALLY, your wrong. they do rescue them and then make generations and generations of them. thats the way that they are born so if they just release them into the wild they would all die? does that sound good for you; would that make you happier? just wondering..
@number2isnumber1 they dont do that anymore, they are bred in captivity, and if they were released into the wild, would not survive. and they arnt forced, they do it for rewards and they learn to trust their trainers. they wouldnt jump out of the water and up on the side of the water if they didnt trust their trainers.
@number2isnumber1 they are rescued and generations are made. they trust their trainers and like doing these tricks because they get rubbed, pet, fed, and positive feedback. and how is a tiny human suppose to force this large animal to do these tricks? exactly they can't. if the animal doesn't want to do it, they don't and the trainers let them be and they make up for that part of the show or they cancel it completely.
@number2isnumber1 most of the whales that sea world has are ones that were born there so they are with their family. the whales they live with are considered their pod and they have close relationship just as in the wild. plus they get plenty of food and love and attention and workouts and games and doctor checkups and friends so i think they are fine..
@Cranma5678 Okay, well what about the space? They have tiny fish tanks compared to the frickin giant ocean they SHOULD be in. or does it expand 100x behind closed doors?

That is right, he cried for his trainer.
buddyrain100 4 months ago
How can you release them? If those baby whales copy the mothers and those mothers copied their mothers then how can it be possible. It would be like kieko may he rest in peace all over again. Remember that without these parks you would not even have seen how amazing they are. They are not captured anymore then I would be against them. you can give a dog 5 star treatment and it would be fine. Give an amazing animal 5 star treatment and it is wrong to people. I simply do not get it.
buddyrain100 4 months ago
I do not see how it is possible. If the babies copy what the mothers do then tell me how could they live in the wild without any knowledge of it. Keiko did it and what happened to him? He died. He had become so dependent on humans he could not survive in the wild. You also have to remember that if it werent for Seaworld and all of the other parks, you would not have seen these animals. So why blame them if they were the ones who showed you these animals in the first place?

According to the standard phylogenetic tree, whales are known to be the descendants of terrestrial mammals that had hindlimbs. There are many cases where whales have been found with rudimentary atavistic hindlimbs in the wild. Notably Kyoquot station, Vancouver island 1919 case . For super books about nature & science try, ' The greatest show on earth ' & ' Unweaving the rainbow ' by scientist Richard Dawkins, also try PZ Meyers, Talkorigins

FMAluver14 11 months ago
@FMAluver14 No, sorry. A long time ago, killer whales were caught to perform. That doesn't happen anymore, but fact is it DID happen. Seaworld even made sure the captures would take place. Nowadays killer whales aren't caught anymore, except in Russia.
B4Malfoy 10 months ago
@B4Malfoy The very first Shamu was a recovered Orca, along with a the rest, except those born there. :| research and actually going to he park helps.
FMAluver14 10 months ago
@FMAluver14 The first captured killer whale was captured by accident. Then they caught a female orca to keep him company, Shamu. She was brought to Seaworld later. Now my dear, do you really believe that all the killer whales that ever lived in captivity were injured and rescued? No. What I said, NOWADAYS they don't capture orcas anymore. So, I did my research and I went to Seaworld. No problems there.
B4Malfoy 10 months ago
@B4Malfoy No, i don't believe that, the other half of them are BORN IN CAPTIVITY
FMAluver14 10 months ago
@FMAluver14 @FMAluver14 Yes, some are BORN IN CAPTIVITY!.
B4Malfoy 10 months ago
@B4Malfoy oh good god, would you actually take a step back and read what the hell you put down? You make yourself sound like your a 14 year old girl losing an argument. Now, as i HOPE you know, it was outlawed in the U.S. to capture animals for entertainment purposes. Please learn this well 9_9
FMAluver14 10 months ago
@FMAluver14 Oops, sorry, I let myself slip. Yes, you are correct that it was outlawed in the US. Pacific orcas weren´t caught anymore, so they took them from Iceland and Japan. Have you watched the videos I refered to? I just want you to understand that not all the orcas in captivity were rescued. To be honest, none of them were. The only rescued orcas are Pascuala (don't know how to spell it) and Morgan. Pascuala is dead now, and Morgan is in the Netherlands.
B4Malfoy 10 months ago
@B4Malfoy Killer Whales captures are in fact NOT out-lawed in the USA... the Display Parks made sure of that in 1994 with the MMPA amendments... I'll send you a copy right now to your Channel.... anyone else who wants this MMPA amendment please feel free to inquire.
metridium 10 months ago
@metridium Oh, I never knew that.... Thatnks for pointing that out.
B4Malfoy 10 months ago

Next, jumping and performing comes
natural for these animals.? They jump all the time in the wild, twirling and spinning. They just do it on command here, and they aren't being forced either. You can't make any animal do what it doesn't want to do. These animals enjoy seeing our high energy as they breach from the water and visit them in the viewing tank. They are curious about us as we are of them.
Kungfuhiyahba 1 year ago
these whales(dolphins) dont mind the size
as long as they are surrounded by their friends, family, toys and their trainers.
Kungfuhiyahba 1 year ago

Glad we are on the same page :) To person who posted the video...its cute but captivity is not!
aspiemom42 1 year ago 2
Legend7293 wow,you can read Orca facial expressions? Actually they dont have any! Also where do you get the idea that an Orca pod would reject their family members? Lolita is probably the only captive Orca that could successfully be released. Her pod has been studied for years and the females of the pod have a history of longevity. Also her teeth are in perfect condition.Tilly would not be a candidate for release due to his teeth. He needs a sea pen. Also Corky from SW SD is a wild caught Orca.

cits96 1 year ago
So yeah, you're right, we can't just put them back in the ocean, they would die, but giving them a better life in a seapen is definetely something we can do (and ofcourse, try to release Lolita & Kshamenk **And Morgan, if they find her pod**) So stop going to places like Miami seaquarium, Seaworld & other places with captive orcas, If you do, they'll just continue to keep them there as long as they can make more money of them.
*not saying that all captivity is bad, but in most cases*
cits96 1 year ago
The best for them would be to retire in a seapen, if it where not for the fact that they have their own babies (or adoptive babies in Corky's case) It would be cruel to take them away, but at the same time seaworld separates them all the time, breaking strong familybonds and friendships.
In, for example Tilikums case, the best for him would be to live out his life in a seapen. The same for Uly.
Lolita & Kshamenk is probably the only orcas left in captivity who can be released (continue)

Cranma5678 1 year ago
@jobot86 You're wrong. Sometimes aquarium or sea world life is safer for the animals. I mean look at the BP oil spill! A lot of marine life is affected by that. Also marine animals born in captivity can not survive in the wild because even though they have enrichment items, they possess no survival skills so putting them in the ocean is like a death sentence.
samuraihei7 1 year ago
@samuraihei7 Just because a whale was born into captivity doesn't make it domesticated. Captive born whales are still very much wild with survival instincts. Just like your cat still has some wild behaviors, and that's after hundreds of years of domestication. So you're wrong. since 1961 134 orcas have been taken from the wild of those 107 (79%) are now dead. Even more disturbing is that 55 know births have happened in captivity but only 21 have survived so 38% survival rate.
Little123Fizz 1 year ago
@samuraihei7 mean while in the wild the MORTALITY rate for calves is 40%. So 62% of calves born into captivity die. Where as 40% in the wild die. And they have to deal with oil spills!!! You people trying to save animals from the wild is sickening. Animals are NOT ours for entertainment. 4 whales and a person have lost their lives this year due to this industry, are you not entertained yet? When are we going to end this madness...
Little123Fizz 1 year ago
@Little123Fizz So you rather they die in their natural environment because they lack the skills to survive. They are wild animals and I never said they were domesticated but do you really think they have any chance surviving in the wild if they lived from birth at a aquarium? What do you think the purpose of an aquarium is or have you been watching too much Free willy (which by the way is an excellent movie)? Statistics are only from a controlled study not the whole population of orcas.
samuraihei7 1 year ago
@Little123Fizz you know what? This argument is ridiculous. You believe what you believe and I believe what I believe. Are you a marine biologist or can you only report statistics. If you think I support animals being taken out of the wild or not being in the wild then you are wrong. By the way, you know what is real madness? The shark population has declined 97% and may be extinct by 2018; is there no end to shark fining? why do multimillion illegal fining businesses exist? Sharks deserve life.
samuraihei7 1 year ago
@Cranma5678 only 2 of the 7 tanks at shamu stadium are deeper than he is long. The pacific Ocean is huge, the pools are not. Orca can dive to depths of hundreds of feet and can swim around 100 kilometers a day. Obviously this is taken away from them in captivity. Seaworld captive breeding program is contrary to conservation as the main purpose is to keep the bred animals in captivity for profit & "entertainment". Tilikum was taken from the wild & remains in isolation today.
gally50 1 year ago
is there not better things to do people? these animals are treated very well and cared for and loved and have their family with them. if you care for animals as much as you why dont you do something useful like help the dolphins by japan and such being horrivly murdered or help the beluga whales being killed or even help abused pets those animals need real help not the well treated sea world ones!
Cranma5678 1 year ago
@Cranma5678 --I feel the same way about money being spent on keeping mentally damaged humans alive in hospital beds when kids without food are wandering the streets with no money or parents. But little do you know that these "well treated" sea world animals are actually prisoners, dying to get OUT !
durgaaa 1 year ago
@durgaaa but you do know that most of those orcas were born in captivity right? so releasing them would be horrible idea. and releasing the ones that were taken from the wild would die because they rely on man now. what happened to keiko is a good example of that
Koolkat197 1 year ago
@WillTheDiscusGuy The average lifespan of a dolphin ranges from about 17 years to about 25 years, with no significant difference between dolphins in the wild and in captivity. Females tend to live longer than males, and are the only dolphins known to stay alive more than 50 years. One female at the Dolphin Research Center in Grass Key, Florida is in her early 50s as of 2008 though it is very rare for any to reach that age.

omerzoref 1 year ago
@omerzoref The orcas do shows to get exercise. It's obvious that their enclosures are smaller than the ocean, so doing various jumping behaviours helps them to burn calories and build muscle, while also getting the mental stimulation of following hand signals. No orca is ever forced to participate, shows are either canceled or parts left out if a whale does not want to participate.

they do let them rest and everything. and if they didn't want to do the shows, they don't do them. and the trainers just leave them be and don't force them to do it. i mean honestly how do you expect somebody 5'4, 120 lbs to force/boss around animals that are 8 to 14 feet plus weighing 5 times as muchas the human? congratulations, you officially made yourself look dumb.
THErandiANDalexSHOW 1 year ago
@THErandiANDalexSHOW you also forgot that they switch out the animals during shows so they dont have to do every single one:)
Cranma5678 1 year ago
@omerzoref the orcas only have about 6 shows a day(im looking at the show schedule right now) they also switch out the whales and the parts so they dont do them all and lastly the orcas love the attention and the workout they get from the show.
Cranma5678 1 year ago
@omerzoref Simple. The shows aren't for entertainment at all, so do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Putting them in a pool however massive and just leaving them there is cruelty, so training and shows enrich their routine and keeps them learning. The seem to like performing! There are about 4 shows a day and never at the same times twice, like the whales routine, they change daily to stop them getting bored.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 Ok, but they can't be working with them every second. Think about it, they have that pool to swim around in 24-7. Not that it's very long considering they die at around 23-30 years when in the wild they can live to be 90. Also, orcas are ALWAYS vocalizing. When they echo, they sound bounces right back to them because it hits a wall. Think of how annoying that would be. There are so many other reasons why orcas are not suited for captivity like other animals are
PacificOrcas 1 year ago
@PacificOrcas They can't be working with them every second, of course not. Orcas in the wild CAN live to 90 years, this is a maximum. Like some humans CAN live to 100, but some die aged 60. Think of Lolita, she's already 40 years old and in a tiny tank, and Katina is around 34. And all the whales apart from Kalina (no results yet) who have died this year had a cause of death not related to captivity, so you can't say that their deaths mean they are not taken care of.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 All I'm saying is that there is no better place for tham than in the ocean. Humans try to keep them alive in captivity, but it just doesn't work. We don't have the skills to keep them alive ourselves. There is no possible way we can immitate the ocean. The ocean is the only place where they truly belong
PacificOrcas 1 year ago
@PacificOrcas I know there isn't. Of course there would be no place better, especially for the older whales, than the ocean. But in the last few decades our ability to care for them has started to get better, and all I'M saying is that captivity needn't mean they are unhappy or badly looked after. Agreed?
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 I believe that for the born in captivity orcas, but the ones who were captured (Tilikum, Katina, Lolita, Corky, Ulises, and any others I missed) I think are unhappy, because they miss their families and need to be released as soon as possible

@PacificOrcas They were captured 30 years ago, or more. They have kids with them and a pod, whether it's their natural one or not. I actually think that Tilly should be released as he is just so massive (and possibly dangerous) and Lolita at least needs a tank about 4 times the size of the one she has now. Releasing Katina would be a bad idea as she has a newborn calf and a 4 year old with her too.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 Well, yes, releasing Katina now would be dangerous for her and her calf. But in 10 years or so, it would be completely safe. Orcas and other cetaceans have excellent memory. They can remember something that happened to them for over 75 years. So all the wild-caught orcas do remember their families, and they miss them. Family is the most inportant thing in an orca's life. If the wild caught orcas saw their families, they would be extatic and forget about humans very fast
PacificOrcas 1 year ago
@PacificOrcas And you think that they would just forget about their trainers, who they have been with and trusted all their lives, forget about their pod at SeaWorld and their babies there, and swim off and live happily ever after? I think not. They are used to being hand-fed, and used to their daily interactions. It would not be as simple as you make it out to be. Possible, yes, but risky, expensive and it would take a very long time. They would miss their families at SeaWorld, too.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 One thing you forgot to consider is that all of those orcas are from different pods. They all have different "languages". They can't talk to each other. Pod members can only talk to pod members. Also, the orcas don't bond with the trainers. They simply tolerate them because they know that's where the food comes from. Orcas only bond with their pod. Studies have shown that captive orcas are under tremendous stress 24/7 due to the small space and echoes bouncing off the tank walls
PacificOrcas 1 year ago
@PacificOrcas Of course they bond with their trainers. They spend 3 years with them before they get into the water, and do you really think that they would allow them in their pool if they weren't comfortable with it? And it's not only food, they give them love, care, enrichment e.g. kelp, and everything they need. They trust them.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 the very concept of "looking after" a killer whale is flawed. All they need is for us to leave them alone & protect their habitat. They can dive for hundreds of feet in the wild & swim up to 100 miles in a day. Unfortunately people by nature are selfish, keeping orca in captivity is selfish, i see you from your channel that none of your favourites are of wild orca in their natural environment. Why is that. Are they only "cute" in captivity?
gally50 1 year ago 16
@gally50 Of course they're cute in the wild too. But, like most people, the only place I'm going to be able to see them is places like SeaWorld, at least until I'm old enough to see them in the wild, anyway. I know the wild is better, but I just think that it is possible for them to be happy in captivity, too.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@gally50 dude chill out. its cute get over it. by watching this your supporting it. we dont wanna listen to you bitch and moan.
1child1death 1 year ago
@gally50 do your research..Shamu and Katina are the only ones SW have ever captured and that was before the protocols for seaworld were established. all the other adult whales that seaworld parks have were either born in captivity and therefore can never be put into the wild or where rescued from dying and can not be put pack because there pod would not accept them back and they would die. They are incredible happy you just see it on there face..dont make it sound like people just caught them all
legend7293 1 year ago
@legend7293
Shamu and Katina?
How about Kasatka, Nakai and kalias mom? She was not rescued, she was caught.
And Corky 2, Ulises, Tilikum, and not to mention all those who are now dead that was wild caught.
Okay, These orcas that I mentioned Can probably not be released, for various reasons, but what they all have in common is that the trainers and vets have drilled holes in their teeth, and the holes most be flushed with water thrice a day so they wont get any nasty infections (continue)
cits96 1 year ago
@gally50 I see that none of your favorites are of kittens, why is that? do you hate kittens?
I also see that you don't have any favorite videos of America, DO YOU HATE AMERICA GALLY50?
also, @thesupremestar thanks for a video I can use on forum to divert attention away from ire sarcasm.

Ever read what happened to Keiko (Free Willy) after we set
dawnxelizabeth 4 months ago
@gally50 him free? HE DIED because he could not fend for himself in the wild. If we knew for sure that they could protect themselves or even HUNT I'm pretty sure we would let them go. So unfortunately, your argument is invalid. Thank you and have a nice day. c:
dawnxelizabeth 4 months ago
@missnoodles996 Tillikum cant be released. he relys a little too much on man now. if they released him he would die in the wild.
Koolkat197 1 year ago
@Koolkat197 Tilikum is the one who needs it the most, but I still think he is happy where he is and it really wouldn't matter if he wasn't ever released. He still has the love and care of the trainers, and i think if he ever was released then we'd just have keiko all over again.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 The only reason he kept approaching boats was because they didn't find his pod. If we found their pods they could be released safely
PacificOrcas 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 Why do you assume he's happy? Tilikum shows signs of stress reguraly. The trainers love the orcas and treat them very well, but that still doesn't change the fact that they aren't where they belong. Perhaps we could move them to a sea-pen...
B4Malfoy 1 year ago
@B4Malfoy I actually think that Tilly and Lolita at least should be moved to sea pens, but the others interact normally and aren't aggressive. I believe that they are happy because I really don't think that unhappy whales would behave as these do e.g. eating VERY well, playing, socialising, and performing. They wouldn't be as lively as they are if they were miserable.
missnoodles996 1 year ago

Please stop being naieve.
durgaaa 1 year ago
@durgaaa If they didn't care about the animal's wellbeing, would they have a 7 million gallon pool complex with extensions planned? Have 24 trainers with them 24 hours a day? Be fed restaurant-quality fish? No. I think not. I can't say that the high-up people don't care about money at all, but these people don't get near the whales and they've given $6million to marine charities either way. The only ones look after the whales are the trainers who spend years building up trust with them.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 Wild animals in the Ocean do not need "restaurant quality fish" nor do they need trainers 24 hours a day. They need freedom to be with thier own kind- dozens of their own kind and to swim without borders! Jaques Cousteau knew this. But you do not !
durgaaa 1 year ago
@Kitsipawn SeaWorld never captures their animals they rescue them
"So make sure to do your research before you speak out..you've made yourself look like an idiot."
HannahbleRising 1 year ago
@HannahbleRising Actually You're wrong, They Captured them. They were never in need of "rescue". I don't know where you get your information.
TweadleDeda 1 year ago
@TweadleDeda ACTUALLY, your wrong. they do rescue them and then make generations and generations of them. thats the way that they are born so if they just release them into the wild they would all die? does that sound good for you; would that make you happier? just wondering..
THErandiANDalexSHOW 1 year ago
@THErandiANDalexSHOW @THErandiANDalexSHOW Nope. Every Single Orca that was not bred in captivity. Was CAPTURED. Where did you get your information?
TweadleDeda 1 year ago
shakira? xD
RalfLifechannel 1 year ago
That's so sad. They're taken out of their habitat and away from their families to be forced to do tricks and get laughed at
number2isnumber1 1 year ago
@number2isnumber1 they dont do that anymore, they are bred in captivity, and if they were released into the wild, would not survive. and they arnt forced, they do it for rewards and they learn to trust their trainers. they wouldnt jump out of the water and up on the side of the water if they didnt trust their trainers.
jdoug0234 1 year ago
@number2isnumber1 they are rescued and generations are made. they trust their trainers and like doing these tricks because they get rubbed, pet, fed, and positive feedback. and how is a tiny human suppose to force this large animal to do these tricks? exactly they can't. if the animal doesn't want to do it, they don't and the trainers let them be and they make up for that part of the show or they cancel it completely.
THErandiANDalexSHOW 1 year ago
@number2isnumber1 most of the whales that sea world has are ones that were born there so they are with their family. the whales they live with are considered their pod and they have close relationship just as in the wild. plus they get plenty of food and love and attention and workouts and games and doctor checkups and friends so i think they are fine..
Cranma5678 1 year ago
@Cranma5678 Okay, well what about the space? They have tiny fish tanks compared to the frickin giant ocean they SHOULD be in. or does it expand 100x behind closed doors?
