  • This is good for beginners.

  • these hep a lot. but the best way to learn is to watch on tv

  • I just started playing after 4 years out. Forgot all my body angles :(

  • he said "we're gonna do a defensive ruck" and then at the end he said " that's what we call an offensive ruck"

    which is it?

  • @IamXiaoYo defensive ruck was the first one, offensive ruck was the second one, as he explained

  • can the person who picks up the ball run with it straight away or does he have to pass? and how many people can be involved in the ruck pushing is there a limit? thanks

  • @DrumAndG He can take it and run, but it depends on the situation, if you see a gap. they can go for it. but if they take it out there might be an opportunity out there.

  • thats illegal now, 1st the tackler has 5seconds to roll away if he doest he gets a penalty against him, 2nd the rucking defender cant go in a ruck like that cos it will be diving and there would be a penalty agains him and if he rucks with his feet paralell he doest have the strength as if he rucks with one leg foward one back, and for safety its better if he grabs the player on the ground by his shirts so if his opposition is stronger and its pushing him away he the ruck will move with him.

  • @drinu0001

that's incorrect i'm afraid. You are right about the tackler, but he would only be penalised if he was slowing the ruck down, it's also ok for him to show the referee he is trying to leave, even if he can't. The first man at the ruck is also allowed to go beyond parralel, especially since he drove the man off the ball, 'diving' involves throwing yourself over the ball without attempting to stay on your feet

  • @Unevaluated i'm happy to say i'm right that rule has been improoved , now the tackler has to show the ref that he is trying to get out of it like you said but if the opposition "traps" him into the ruck and he tries to get out but he still cant and stops the referee will give a penalty against him, and for beginers its a good vidoe but with expirience u will need better rucking so that you can secure the bal, but i like the way you think :)

  • i still do not get it. in wiki it is about a page about this "ruck" thing. in the movie here - it looks just as some tackle with pushing the ball out of the group

  • keep pressing 1 4 wanna a fuk

  • So when is the defence aloud to push back in a ruck?because when I watch rugby the ball carrier falls and two team mates step over him and form a wall and then the defence just stand there and the ref tells them to stay.Is the defence only aloud to push back when the offensive wall has not been formed?

  • @DrinkMoxie9000 Basically if the offense comes over the ball and there really isn't a chance of the defense forcing them back to get a turnover, then they will not commit players to a ruck, this means they can line up and prepare for the next phase of attack. You have to know when to go in, have to make a judgement call if you could push the offense back, as committing to many players from your D' will leave gaps in your backline for the opposition to expose. Hope that makes sense.

  • @leejthomson yeah I found that out like right after I posted :P

  • Tackler didnt roll away penalty one player off his feet penalty 2 and the guy that got tackled didnt release the ball immediatly

  • Tackler you need to get out of the ruck and recycle.

  • He's off his feet. Penalty.

  • Livestrong > Expertvillage

  • Damn, never a 1.23 minute video was so useful... 5 stars

  • ruck till you scrum

  • That's Godamn bridging from the second offensive guy in the ruck! What the fuck?

  • @Samax13 youre aloud to bridge after u16s

  • @webby192 bridging is a bunch of bullshit.

  • @Samax13 no its not it is encredibly useful to protect your ball

  • @webby192 yes and its illegal in our league and highly dangerous . at least our team makes it so. if someone is bent over the tackled player, we just tell our 300 lb guys to fall on the both of them.

  • @Samax13 jumping into the ruck is illegal in europe which solves that problem as we have far heavier men soane tonga'uiha 336lb/24 stone

  • @Samax13 its legal in europe as its illegal to collapse the ruck e.g falling on it

  • @webby192 Yea,It's the same for Canada. You are deffinitly not allowed to collapse the ruck!

  • he rucked wrong i was like flopped over him lol

  • heres a tip there is a new thing called a pencil presnt and what it does is it makes a smalier gate for less ofence to ruck so when u go to ground instead of going dwon with your whole back to your opponent make like a stright pencil and present to your team

  • @Crosscutcornet6 and risk getting your leggs mangled, tuck your legs in to prevent injury, smaller gate=more compressed force=winning rucks.

  • That's wrong! The guy that makes the bridge should hold the fallen player's hips and shoulders and his knees mustn't be on the ground

  • too bad the guy who is rucking over his shoulders are lower then his hips thats a pentaly law stats shoulders have to be higher then ur hips

  • this is not detailed at all

  • forgot to mention that if you go off your feet and go for the ball you'll get a penalty against you

  • dude this is great, proper rugby, proper players, far better than that expertvil thing

  • homo?

  • haha is it ye? 90%.... not 100 or 78 or anything. rar

  • 90% of the time, fairly random statistic

  • @barnett64 Its a fairly obvious statistic

  • what about rugby league

  • that rooker is straight of his feet ?

  • MAUL!!!!!

  • @MrBobsrevenge You should go to school admistration with a few buddies and explain you would like to start a team. Then, search your state and county for rugby start-up; you'll be surprised to find that you may get a team started. The local men's clubs would probably help you out; you might need to go under a "club" name for insurance purposes but it would be your buddies from your school. That's how I played in high school and beyond.

  • @jcstriper thanks alot, I would do that but my county is so ignorant that barley anyone knows what rugby is.

  • IRB rugby union rulebook 2010: A ruck is a phase of play where one or more players from each team, who are on their feet, in pysical contact , close around the ball on the ground. Open play has ended. Players are rucking when they are in a ruck and using their feet to try to win or keep possesion of the ball, without being guilty of foul play.

Whats happening in this so called guide is not rucking. At least not according to the IRB.

  • @staaldak well, if its not a ruck, what is it?

  • @Rightleggedleftback A tackle situation. Again I refer you to the IRB rulebook.

  • @Rightleggedleftback This is a tackle situation. A ruck did not form in the above example. The 2nd player in the white shirt who dives over the ball is not on his feet (a requirement for a ruck) and is not bound to an opponent (a requirement for a ruck).

  • @staaldak He can be off his feet, provided he isnt trying to drive the opposition.

  • @AlexIsTheGrunge Again: IRB rugby union rulebook 2010: A ruck is a phase of play where one or more players from each team,* who are on their feet *, in pysical contact , close around the ball on the ground. Open play has ended.

Players are rucking when they are in a ruck and using their feet to try to win or keep possesion of the ball, without being guilty of foul play.

  • @Josh7711Dub well... maybe thats true on the coaching aspect, but as a girlfriend and also a sister of rugby players, it's nice to know whats going on in the game and what theyre talking about afterwards

  • this actually helped. thanks

  • New rule says tackler must release stand up then go over

    Am i right?

  • @jamster12312 if they are on there own in the tackle then if they go to ground with the player with the ball they have to stand up then they can rip... but in other situations they have to go to there side of the tackle then can go through the gate as per usual :)

  • to bad your teaching the wrong way... the guy thats rucking over did nothing.... he would get a penalty

  • @billyashesofthecross you dont have to do anything dickhead

  • I'm new to all this but in the first situation could the guy in white shirt have just picked the ball up? Or would that be against a rule?

  • @GodOvEpicness yes, he can pick the ball up an run...mainly used if there is no support from the other forwards.

  • I seem to have problems when ever it comes to rucking. I don't have problems with rucking itself, just positioning. Whenever there's a breakdown, there's already enough of my teammates rucking over. Whenever this happens, I don't know what to do or where to stand. I always seem to stand in "No Man's Land" as my coaches call it. Can somebody help me with my problem?

  • @Flareon221Sh if its potentionaly a try scoring oppourtuinty , get in ther , u need the quick ball , if ur pack fellows do a split thing (2 pods)try to play to that, read the game and see what needs to be done, back your self and be decisive.

  • @Flareon221SH as a forward on most teams you would become the closest defender to the ruck and everyone else slides down defensively. with one exception, if your the fastest defender on either side of the ruck you become the last man on defense. hopefully that will help

  • i think that this is a great skill rucking

  • the first tackler has to roll away or stand up and pick n go

  • that's a penalty there coach, must release the tackled player or roll away

  • He is not off his feet. It's just a crappy bridge. He has no power in that position, he needs to get lower, grab onto his man, anchor himself, then a bridge might work a little better. And yes you will get cleated. Your hands, your head. It's a part of the game.

  • Wow these guys suck.

  • He is not off his feet in the 1st example as he is the first tackler and a ruck is not formed unti l later by which time he is already in contact and therefore not in off his feet. The only infringement would be not rolling away if he has the oppertunity to do so.

  • thats some crappy rucking, you really have to come down low and drive them back over the ball carriers body that leaves it open for your scrum half. and when you ruck against bigger guys you can hook their back leg so they are easier to move!

  • its not that he is off his feet but that his shoulders are below his hips and in that position he is probably going to get the back of his head cleated to hell

  • In the first example the attacking player is off his feet a liable for penalty. Just saying.

  • nice, simple instructions giving tips on the very basics of a ruck

  • help me a lot thx....

  • I have to say Livestrong are very helpful.

    Thanks guys

  • straight off his feet, come on mate sort it out.

  • Why does he have a USA rugby ball?

  • Thats not a usa ball

  • hes in austin texas

  • I've just joined a women's rugby union team three weeks ago and knew bugger all about Rugby. This helps. Learning a lot by just playin obviously but my team r sittin top of their league and i don't want to let neone down!!!!!!

  • yeah man i caught that too. thats totally fckin bridging

  • Sorry mate.

Totally wrong in the first tackle.

First player clearly broke 2 laws.

Head and shoulder below hips. Free kick.

And he clearly was not able to hold his body up by being on his feet. He was clearly bridging.

  • i just started playing rugby, what is bridging?

  • Its basically the first man in the ruck from the attacking team trying to get in the way of defenders getting to the ball. that's called 'sealing the ball'

if he cant stay on his feet in a balanced position, and makes a sort of 'bridge' shape with his body, its an infrindgement

  • I had no idea what a ruck is before i watched this video!!!

you got you're first comment by me :p
