  • its like hear vegeto in DBZ

but i know allen ginsberg from AJ Hoge story

  • Hey everyone...I was watching this video and noticed all the great comments here...I wanted to share a project I am working on that might interest some of you. It is a film called Hold the Line about poetry and it's social impact and relevance, spanning the beat era to today....check out our page on Facebook and give us a "like" if you do. Thanks.

  • I cant believe they fucked repeatedly

  • Comment removed

  • he's beautiful....

  • He is most honest poet who ever wrote. He speaks with brilliant reckless disregard.

  • Allen Ginsberg breaks my heart. Really really.

  • I think of Dean Moriarty.

  • @bobslightbulb on the road a great book...

  • Quoting Buk himself..."hey ginsberg, we all know you never wrote anything else after Howl..."

  • I saw Allen recite very late in his career at Chapman College in California, and his voice had not lost any of its "convincing emotion". He was spot on and the crowd showered him with love. A very memorable evening.

  • A rare moment of calm for Neal.......

  • peace and sunflowers

  • I thought he was David Cross at first glance.

  • @NinteenEightyNothing (haha) i have always thought david cross resembles allen ginsberg.

  • @littleflags probably why he played Ginsberg in I'm Not There then!

  • @littleflags fuck you

  • @Lillogambino okay!!!

  • @seanmcmeekin

it's the gins and probably the fugs singing a rendition of william blake's 'ah! sunflower' -- ah sunflower weary of time etc

  • Hammerflip...we need a ride to the city

  • language is what connects all an us all freaks language we are here yes all an us all .xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • oh come on i love poetry ...but this bullshit problem we have when a "poet" speaks or writes that we seem to not be able to tell the difference between good and SHITE...please if you get anything from this .....WAKE THE FUCK UP!!

  • "i bet he was a kind person"...jeezz have you read on the road...he was a c***!!!

  • This is a real treat. Thanks!!

  • Fucking Pedophile!

  • What a whining phony.

  • Saw Allen read just once...he went on about visiting Angkor Wat and read his words about the same. Love the soul.

  • Ginsberg was great. Food for the soul.

  • allen is more badass than all heavy metal bands combined.

  • @shoekstra1419 - in a nebish kinda way, yes, he was bad ass.

  • not only the king of may, the king of all us! thanks Allen to make some of us better people.

  • @infoanalysis what's wrong with him being gay and jewish?

  • the visionary street preacher of the twentieth century

  • What?! He speaks about my country (Czechoslovakia) and my city (Prague)!!

First, I supposed that I misheard but when he talked about "Prague" repeatedly and subsequently about "detectives in Czechoslovakian (proper: Czechoslovak) business suits" it was clear. It is really surprising – A. G. once visited Czechia...

  • @jarlRiess kool

  • @jarlRiess Haroj,

Ginsberg was the King of May in Praha in I think 1968

  • @delysid22 "Haroj"? What does it mean?

In the meantime I discovered that Ginsberg was in Prague in 1965. By the way, title "Král majálesu" (King of Majales) means simply King of Majales, neither King of May nor anything else. Majáles = traditional festival of the Czech (later also Slovak) students founded sometime in the 19th century. Previously mainly in the form of pageants but presently it is big music fest joined with miscellaneous funny contests. If You want know more see: majales.cz

  • allen ginsberg woulda been a wonderful dad.

  • How sad that so many of these comments focus on Neal and Allen's sexuality and use of drugs, as if that were all they stood for. Way to focus on externals, douchebags.

  • Ginsberg scared people because he was only capable of speaking and writing the absolute truth. Kerouac hung out with him because he appreciated Allens intelligence, his humor, and his bravery in being an outspoken homosexual during a very difficult time to be one. They were absolute soul brothers.

  • I'd love to see and hear Neal doing some of his own readings eg "The First Third".

  • The children behind. They don't know their fortune.

  • My mind is not wired for abastract thought but wish it was....

  • @fuhoney I'll bet it is. You might be trapped in a prison of your own making. In all spiritual traditions, the transcendence of the rational function is requisite. Allen's poem, and all true poetry, are spiritual in nature. Try a little breathing meditation. It's good to quiet the mind and open the heart. Best of luck to you!

  • I so wish I could understand this as the rest of you do here and tap into this awesome vibe you all experience! When I hear him recite his work I just get frustrated and board. It's not only Ginsburg but poetry in general. I know this is my own personal problem....

  • His poetry recitation was much more penetrating here. As he grew old, his voice lost that necessary convincing emotion to years of drug usage. However, without the drugs could Howl have existed? RIP my dear Ginsberg, you are missed.

  • well he was out of his head over a surf

  • I like Ginsy's poem!

  • id go gay for ginsberg

  • @carrettop he counted on that. a lot.

  • no wonder bob dylan loved him so much. lol. Funny how these people that run around together influence eachother so much. Man, the collected thoughts of people who think the same way... these people gwetting together and sharing their thought, which they did, they hung out alot. Could you imagine hearing some of the things they would talk about together??? I so wish I could.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

  • Joy jumps out from the exuberance of your eye / & like you say you are the King of May...from a jet seat riding to heaven!!! Far Far beyond the politics of Prague!!! Amore! Amore, I hear you! And I'm sure Blake does too!!!

  • what poem is this?

  • @ddrumsman549 The king of may

  • neal cassady was a very nice persons but sometimes he threw hammers at hippies that went to meet him

allen ginsberg wasn't really homosexual, he was a jewish poet out of his head

  • What an absolutely amazing human being.

  • is's makes me both want to cry and laugh about all we've lost, does anyone remeber what it really fealt like to live in the past, really, it's been robbed from us, stiped by the tyrant we call tecno, blow, low, we will rise again, i beleave you're out there, the legions of spirits that beleave, some thing will come out of this schisim of life, love a friend in alaska,

  • Ginsberg was one of the greatest poets of the 20th century, if you don't understand stream of conciousness poetry then don't watch ginsberg videos, Jack Kerouac was friends with "Ginsy boy" becasue they were both great, iconic poets!

  • Neal Cassady is brilliant but Allen Ginsberg is one of the most important poets of the last century

  • Im from ireland and altough we have some good poets and writers i dont think u can beat the beat writers pun intended haha

  • i am the king of may

  • how interesting

he really has something to say!

    i love it

  • stuff like this makes me realise how much better at poetry we irish are than americans. that prob the reason why they love us so much in the U.S:)

  • Of course I love Yeats, Wilde, Beckett etc. but you can't judge American Poetry just by Ginsy...

We still got Eliot, among a few others!

  • ..and henry wardsworth longfellow, love that guy... if you like irish poetry check out seamus heaney.Brilliant!

  • apart from the fact that Eliot considered himself an Englishman at the end of his life ;-)

no just kidding, america has some really great poets as well!

  • @paulieh24 yeah, of course, Seamus fucking Heaney and some old dead bastards. Proud history there.

  • @paulieh24 Don't be so ignorant.....and if you are going to be don't speak for your entire nation because I'm sure that most real thinkers in Ireland would give Ginsberg the credit of being one of the greatest poets in the last century.

  • @mymanhiggins its not even a poem hes sayin. just some moany rant..dont know why someone as cool as kerouac would hang out with this dork!

  • @paulieh24 Somehow I doubt either of them would want to hang out with someone as negative as you. Ginsberg's work has inspired and uplifted the hearts of many, whereas putting him down in a public space with an implicit attempt to raise the ire of his admirers is destructive in every sense. Brushing aside creative expression like this as a moany rant is pretty meaningless, in other words.

  • @fractaldog i was drunk when i wrote that. dont really mean it. all poets are lovely!

  • @rizla1951 Boring only for people who do not think...

  • mimiiluvfromsf, the problem with your suggestion is that you isolate and insult many faiths, such as Judaism and Buddhism, that do not feature the teachings from the "Sermon on the Mount" in their regular canon. I find this to be quite vulgar.

  • dear lord allen ginsberg is a peculiar looking person

  • Never seen the whole clip before, why not show the bit where Neal comes in and remarks his hair has shrunk ? Great stuff though - thank you.

  • Started out good, but too much me, me, me, me, me.

Don't ever make the mistake of thinking that your life is interesting to anyone but yourself.

  • Is it me, or is anyone else annoyed with Youtube's policy of deleting opinions? I'm sure it's for the greater good of freedom, or the free exchange of ideas, or whatever....

  • You know - I don't care much about Allen G - but the guy to his right - he was pretty much the catalyst of the entire hippy movement - Neal Cassady. I am so glad to have been able to see some footage of him - he had a strong (usually positive) effect on pretty much everyone he met including many famous people of the 1960s.

  • Read the sermon on the mount for true truth. Bless you all (even those of you who exhibit low intelligence by using vulgar language to express yourselves).

  • lol you say we have low intelligence for using vulgar language, and you say something such as the "true truth", sorry if I don't relly believe you man

  • Sorry, guess being redundant shows less intelligence than being vulgar. But you will believe...someday. Peace man and God bless.

  • Thank you for this!

  • he was great

  • i don't get this poem.

  • i don't get all of it, but i enjoy it.. :)

especially the king of may part

  • you must be an idiot?

  • Look at Neil!!! I love that motherfucker!

  • @jack19790 hahahaha

    plain and simple! like himself!

  • lust for life

  • Živjeli veliki bitnici!!!

  • Thanks for the video and yes he was very kind

  • I bet he was a very kind person.

  • Comment removed

  • @spurtong He was a buddah!

  • Incredible people! Incredible times!

  • it shakes your spine out pretty damn good

  • allen is a girl. cassidy is the truth. just a bum trying to live life. nothing else needs to be said. "enjoy it"

  • for real !!!!!!

  • I don't know why, but as I watched this I wept. Maybe because I'd attended a couple of his readings back in the 60's, maybe because I visited Prague back in those days, maybe because we miss him so much and need his voice now more than ever.

  • We do need his voice. And others who will carry on with his message

  • Excuse me, could someone tell me what is the title of the poem please?

  • Kraj Majales (King of May)

  • Thank you very much. I needed to know for a school project and I'm not in touch with the Beat Generation as much as others.

  • It's called Ginsberg is ped. lol

  • he was with Dylan a prophet poet of our age

  • WOW! I LOVE this poem. So beautiful. Is this poem published anywhere? Also, I have never heard of this experience in Ginsberg's biography (being arrested in Prague). Does anyone know of the circumstances of this?

  • yeah I cannot think of the exact exact circumstances, so do not quote me, but he talks of this during the bob dylan documentary No Direction Home. I think in 1963 (I think) he was basically travelling around the world, speaking out on anti-gay politics and being thrown out of countries...he wound up in Prague and was made the may queen, but then kicked out the following day for similar reasons (where he wound up in london and first heard bob dylan, and wept...)

I think that is pretty much it =)

  • rip neal cassidy - the father of MY america

  • Denver,CO lonely son

  • Psst... David Cross is the illegitimate son of Allen Ginsberg... pass it on.

  • I WAS THINKING THE SAME FUCKING THING.

  • the resemblance is uncanny

  • that would have required at the time that Ginsberg have had sex with a women. Not a Zionist's chance in hell.

  • wow i like how you pretend to know shit about him. Ginsberg was homosexual but earlier in his life he had sex with women and even had steady girlfriends

  • You don't know shit about him but have the audacity to say "it was all shit"? No one wants to hear your ignorance. If you don't like the man, don't watch the video.

  • I drink rum.

  • Never was a fan of Allen, but a huge fan of Neal!

    Nice uppload thx

  • I love listening to Allen read his poetry. He has such a soothing voice and he's a beautiful storyteller.

  • Seeing Neal at the side is the coolest bit. Nice poem though.

  • Someone was lucky to live in the 60's.....and I am the king of May...........

  • Maybe a little bit. But I think there is a certain level of narcisism in everyone. We all have the right to love ourselves to an extent.

  • Who missed Neal Cassady at his side?

  • i love how the fact that he was a homosexual makes people think that this video deserves their hateful, biased, and ignorant comment. shut the fuck up and listen to this genius speak! how can you say such terrible things about such a great mind?

  • i think Jeff Goldblum would make a great Ginsberg on film

  • the man was a fucking genius!

  • I like how he said hamstead heath, 'amstead eath' i.e. like the spanish not pronouncing the h, but he also said that in a cockney accent!

  • Oh my God, this is too cool for words.

  • as i remember ginsberg supported communism, not sovietism which aren't the same thing. naive? yes, however, given the bland oppressive nature of the usa in the 50s it is not surprising that someone would go too far the other way attempting to break out. if you don't understand that then you really don't understand humanity...

  • too good. ginsberg is god.

  • Jet Plane

  • Ginsberg openly was gay and supported international Communism in 1958. How were Jews who were openly gay treated in the U.S.S.R. and Red China in 1958?

  • C'mon, Allen is critical of both the left and right in this poem. The whole poem is about his expulsion from Czechoslavakia at the hands of the communists simply because he was embraced by the country's youth. He was left in that he believed in the idealism of redistributing wealth, and he was a progressive on the subject of human rights. He didn't like the totalitarian style of Marxism at all.

  • And all the hills echoed...

  • budos buzi zsido szar = ginsberg

  • His eyes are so bright...

  • allen ginsberg used hide black people in his pants

  • If this is satire, 67etc, you have a special talent; almost poetic. Ginsbergs life was extraordianry. One fine morning he is in Cuba with Fidel and tells the old thug he is a pot smoking homosexual; he is then hustled [ RAPIDO] to the nearest airport by Fidells goon-squad. The following morning he finds himself in Prague, leading the May Day parade. The man was nothing if not resourceful.

  • i have said things like that before about ginsberg on youtube and people have gone skitso. But i m just winding them up.

  • I saw Allen Ginsberg when he did a presentation at my college in 1967. After his more formal reading and presentation I was fortunate enough to sit at a table discussion with him and found him to be very intelligent, genuine and interested in the thoughts of the students. He looked much like in this video, though maybe he had a bit more hair. Being gay was not as open as it is now but several young men "threw themselves" at him as I remember. I have very good memories of him and his work.

  • zetgeist people zetgeist!

  • When we do not learn from history we are bound to repeat it.

  • his personal life is his business. im only interested in his public activities concerning social revolution.

  • thanks for sharing this

  • Winston Smith sipped on gin when he finally learned to love big brother.

  • Howl on Grand Master of Beat!

  • What a life he led....I want to do it all. He IS AMAZING

  • Know wonder the country is so screwed listening to you. No real thought just repeating what historians have already known. Sex exploits that you can not have when your dead, for what you leave behind is left in your head. Only real truth is that is what is now. What did you live, but a sick stranded man.

  • I dig this poem. Anyone know what it's called?

  • Kral Majales (I am the King of May)

  • thanks

  • his mind is like no other

  • "Unusual sex opinions" is my new phrase of the month I think. His reading is amazing, even though I understand about one in every twenty sentences. He's so vibrant.

  • I always wanted to see legendary NEAL CASSADY!!!

  • I liked Jack's stuff better.

  • Anybody see David Cross as Ginsberg in the new Dylan film? Voice was off but he looked just like him

  • Yes, he was the spitting image.
