For her to say that the US Treasury dropped interest rates on their bonds in order to attract more lending is rather odd. For one thing, that is like saying that your local banks drops interest rates on savngs accounts in order to attract more deposits. Dropping rates of return tends to reduce demand, not increase it.

It seems that the audience member was right about British troops in Iraq. The BBC reported the withdrawal of British troops and the end of British military operations there in April 2009, over a year ago!

Several of the hijackers were from Hamburg, Germany however the planning appears to have taken place in Afghanistan in late 1999.
