...it's fuggin' windy! There's a strong cross-wind. Those planes have really decent lift capabilities...and a wind-gust merely hit the planes', 'sweet-spot' ...nice recovery and control.
@plsniper flared ? lol. he just drove it nose first and tried pulling it at the last second. i guarantee he wasnt even at idle power which you're always supposed to be when landing. you're supposed power and throttle to land a plane. that was just flying the plane directly at the ground till the last second. whoever was piloting that plane i have no idea how they got there license because that is not how you are supposed to be trained to land at all. that looked like a first time student pilot
@ShowerCurtain31 You can hear in the mike the strength of the wind. This was a turbo prop which is a regional airline. Low time captains and Very Low Time co-pilots. Probably the co-pilot was landing and froze at the controls for a second. As for the power settings, didn't sound like he decreased the power. But in heavy gusty winds, you need some extra poweer on final. I've landed in winds where my stall warning was on and two seconds later I was 30 kts over the stall speed. Back and forth.
"any landing you can walk away from is a good landing"
That is one of the most stupidest statements you can say.
Hey, a plane landed with no gear and exploded , everyone apart from me died and I managed to walk away from the plane. So hey, it was a good landing -_-
@TheChillFlight VLM stands for "Vlaamse Luchttransport Maatschappij" and is based in Antwerp. It is now part of the KLM-Air France group and flys under the name Cityjet.

@navymmw i appreciate your reply mate, was so expecting you to be just another person that wants to start a flame war. And you're right, he really could be a great pilot having a bad day.
Way too high. London City from that direction is a bitch though, Canary Wharf is just over the river. The approach is particularly steep for safety. The runway is short too.
And that's a pro with ATPL!! shame shame. Completely wrong executed landing. Too late with the flare. Luckely his correction was less wrong so to say. Must be a student pilot of second officer making his first landing on the F50. In that case appologies accepted...
Im thinking he should have gone around. Flare again after the bounce... This guy would be better off walking a tightrope. Anytime you hit that hard and elevate like that = full power and try again..... I understand a casual greesed landing with the nose up for a bit more than textbook but a headwind like this, looked like a surfer coming down a 30 footer.
@JKaru92 Kinda hard to NOT come in "fast and high" at City depending on wind direction. His approach comes pretty much straight over Canary Wharf Tower, HSBC tower and other big tower blocks in the "Canary Wharf" area of London. Look on Google earth and check the runway location, then look due West, as he's approaching from the west.
@rcacad hahah, that can get really upsetting. And if you are pissed off you can take it personally. Many a pilot has gotten in a fisty cuff with the console.
@splat003 LOL! Fairchild built a licensed version of it. China copies things! But yeah, the Fairchild is pretty much the same bird with minor differences.
@splat003 That's indeed a fokker 50 of VLM, VLM is owned by the dutch company Panta Holdings.
They fly with 18 fokkers and 1 BAe-146. They fly very often to London city airport but i see them also often in Deurne airport in my country (Belgium).
If they approach Deurne they need to fly over my house.
A go-around would have been a better idea than landing halfway down the runway. It was seven and a half degree approach and a few hundred metres shorter when i used to fly there!
Because of the above than normal speed for landing, he/she pushed the stick forward and then back to make it land. The excessive air speed and momentum, compounded by ground effect sent the aircraft back in the air. A major part of flying is managing kinetic energy efficiently, specially on the landing phase. The second time was a flare, thus the landing. I used that technique once at night on an airport with no runway lights. I came down slow, touched and bounced, and then flare and landed.
i've been in a C130 and the pilots came in to fast and we bounced down the runway a few times. my friend was actualy lucky enough to be in the cockpit when this was happening so he could hear the pilots yelling at eachother "WE'RE TO FAST!"
He was struggling with a combination of crosswinds and the infamous steep approach that's required at LCY. He was probably hit by a sudden gust just in the wrong moment.
Don't know if it's the same, but I've had this happen. Just as you touch down you get a gust of wind up your nose and you're flying again. He was coming in pretty steep, but from the comments that's indicative of the airport...
I wonder if the runway being raised off the lake made the ground effect less effective making him kinda smack into the runway vs useing ground effect and greasing it on...
ive worked with these pilots and they are crazy , ive seen them do some pretty scary shit lol , he was probably still banging the stewardess on touchdown lol
I've been flying in and out of LCY for quite some time now and every now and then you get a crappy landing like that... doesn't seem to be that easy to land there, I suppose,
