Yea boiling water in plastic bottles is NOT a good idea. I guess if you were in a survival situation then ingesting some broken down polymers would prolong life longer then dehydration though.

Yeah a lion cud easily get you out of a tree jumping I've seen a female lion jump 12 ft into the air to try to escape onto the fencing above it's 12 ft cement pit it grabbed the fence and started climbing there was no roof so I had to in hook it's paws with a stick

The diffrance between Survivorman, and man vs wild is that Les is real. Man vs Wild he is allways pigging out on some good food like rabbits, snakes, deer (Which is probley provided allready) Ive seen Les go four, or five days without food. Plus WTF is the deal with Bear doing a show with Will Farrel. Yea thats a real life situation.

The chemical mixture he used is this.

rhino dung, Potassium permanganate (an antiseptic) and glycerin (AKA Glycerol) (for diareeah)

The rhino dung can be substituted with any type of animal fertilizer that has properties to be used in an explosion, Similar to the triggering mechanism that the guy in time square tried to use a few weeks ago. But he used an incompatible fertilizer that wouldn't explode.

hmm...fetid water or BPA filled water...so hard to decide, but I guess getting a diarreal disease while by yourself in the wilderness would significantly shorten your ability to survive and sustain acceptable hydration levels leading to dehydration and death. BPA can lead to heart, metabolic, and other diseases which would hit later in life. personally, I would have taken a steel water container with a strap and not a cheap convinience store bottle on a trip. another lesson learned for today.

@LadyAneh there was a perfectly SAFE alternatively here - using hot rocks in his hat to boil water. i'd never use plastic to boil water, plastic bottles degrade with sunlite, bacteria etc without heat applied let alone being suspended over a fire. les was just showing whats possible coz he's done the hot rocks in hat thing before...
