When ELO and The Move were running side by side, Wood, Lynne and Bevan were promoting Shaftesbury instruments. I'd say the Fender copy Jeff Lynne has is a Shaftesbury.
When it comes to musical style I'd put ELO in with 10CC. They're both quirky and there is not too much substance to either band. Both bands pander to commercial audiences. Can't say Id want to listen to a whole albums worth of either band
Observation- He sings the "incorrect" "go for cover, reel and rock it, roll it over" (1:13) which he got directly from the Beatles misreading of the original "try for further then reel and rock with one another". Inneresting. To me.
I would also like to point out that Bev Bevan, the (fkn amazing) drummer, uses about the most unorthodox snare-hand grip ever. For any drummer taking notes he places the stick between his first and middle finger.! What?! (1:22, 2:36)
@eddietheturdburglar Enjoy. But if you're interested in real Rock and Roll there's a whole lot better examples than ELO and if you're interested in Beethoven try the 9th Symphony by the LSO.
I liked the sense of humour of Jeff Lynne in those early days of ELO. Both in the performances and in the interviews.
And the music was also more full of fun to make delicious music. Though I like also his later work I think he began to take himself too seriously by huge success in the late 1970´s.
This was taped using EMI 2001 PAL colour cameras (576i -625) onto 2 inch VT. At broadcast a 16mm b/w film recording was made for engineeering purposes. This was a common practice at the time. The original tape was sadly wiped. This could however be restored to it's original look, using colour recovery techniques (see Dad's Army "Room at the bottom")
Very true, How greedy of the BBC To "Wipe" classic stuff. A LOT of the Z cars from the early 1970,s were wiped by the BBC. Also some of the John Pertwee Dr. Who brodcasts were taped over, At least they still have the Monochrome copy,s
Sadly the same can NOT be said for the Dr.who,s Filmed in the mid/late 1960,s (Especially the 405 line Dr Who,s) WHAT WERE THE BBC THINKING Wiping these!!!!!!!
as good as it got in those days... turn it up...

Why is this film in monochrome?
I know for a FACT it the original recording was filmed using a COLOUR EMI-2001 Television Camera.

So it was in colour originally, all that is left is the b/w film version, that is why you have scratches AND video effects!
