  • 1:40 sword right to the katana guys face

  • they r going 2 stab ech ather

  • @MegaDavis96 the katana guy does at 1:45

  • @MegaDavis96 make that 1:40 sorry

  • why is the guy hitting the other guys sword in the beginning?

  • Was the person using the katana not allowed to do a kote? If it was me i'd smash that guy's wrist in, his sword was moving but his wrist was pretty much outstretched the whole time. Push if he parries you were supposed to step in and bash his face in with ur hilt.

    Restriction sucks :(

  • What the hell is that ?

  • @syphiel2

It's light sparring between a person with a katana and an other person with a langes messer. Sparring is a form of training, katana is a japanese sword and the langes messer is an european war knife.

  • The guy that is continuously flurishing his blade is like just dropping the sword and screaming hit me. Because he does that, the other guy knows his movements and his balance and therefor can strike at the right time. The very fact that he uses the katana with one hand shows that he knows the other guy is off balance and cocky.

  • =w= I'm sorry.. but I can wield a katana better than what I've seen here... I'm not saying I'm great but my friend and myself will literally go at each other as if trying to kill. I will also say my swing gave her a minor concussion.

  • @PurpleRoseWitch Then make a video about it and show the world that which you claim.

´till you do it´s just empty words.

  • Unless both parties are properly suited up to allow proper light strikes these exercises have litle meaning.

  • @cosytoesUK Yeah it's kind of pointless just get some good protective gear and training blades. Im not sure about the katana but you can find lots of sabers, foils and longswords for such purposes.

  • difficulty level: ASIAN!!

  • I don't like how he's just waving his sword like touching the other blade with yours would give bonus rather than hurting a sharp blade...

  • Messer is such an interesting style, I've enjoyed exploring it. Would be interesting to have seen the messer wielder use some closing/grappling techniques. There are several within the style. One of the advantages of having a free off-hand.

  • dear god Red, stop dancing and get to it, you little jackrabbit.

  • All you suckers!!!! this kind of sword is to use with a SHIELD!!! How could it block a katana smash with only one hand???? are you stupid?? whenever you handle a one-single-hand sword, you need a shield on the other hand. If you want a fair fight between swords, try a katana against an Albion Liechtenawer...

  • @Yoguicool I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but it's flat-out wrong. first off the messer was not intended to be used with a shield. it COULD be used with a buckler, which is a type of shield, but defintely not the type of shield you are probably thinking off. the big round shields you see in movies were only used with polearms, such as a spear. messer, dusack, rapier and saber are all one handed swords with aren't coupled with a sword. do some homework next time.

  • If the katana guy was an asian, then the Messer guy would have been into two pieces

  • @tom0227 maybe he was asian.... KATANAS SUCK!

  • @tom0227 A katana doesn't become an incredible weapon just because it is in the hands of an asian. Asians have the same physiology as any other ethnicity. Anyone can learn the fighting techniques of any other ethnic style and become proficient with practice.

  • @gr8sword thats half true. not everyone can learn and excel at some things. why do you think Japanese players usually finish in the top rankings in the kendo world championships? its because kendo is everywhere for them. its heavily engraved in their culture. a lot of them grew up doing kendo. compare that to a white guy-foreigner, who wasn't exposed enough to kendo-other than anime and video games. its a huge difference. anyone can learn. true, but few can be good at it. =)

  • @ShuyuKoukin Yes, but to imply that being asian is somehow superior to any other ethnicity with regard to martial arts implies racial superiority- a master race if you will and that is utter nonsense. I agree that being raised in a culture where martial arts is ingrained in their upbringing gives one an advantage, but you could have a caucasian raised in such a culture and they would perform better as well. I know plenty of asians that are poor martial artists despite their culture.

  • @gr8sword there are no implications of racial superiority in my response. BUT the chances of a Caucasian being "better" is really slim. If he is to be "better as well" then that means he's got a huge crowd of competitors to knock off that are mostly Japanese and Korean. And here in the US? Chinese Americans are usually the top players. again, this is not a racial statement. the Kendo world is dominated by the Japanese and Koreans. it's a fact and it's the results of the tournaments. =)

  • @ShuyuKoukin Not arguing those facts. If the majority of the participants are mostly Asian, then of course they are going rate higher statistically, Regardless, one thing to remember is that, like fencing, kendo is a sport. It teaches techniques with emphasis on winning, not necessarily techniques that are accurate for survival (I've studied both kendo & sport fencing). Kendo is to the katana as fencing is to the rapier: close, but far from teaching the use of those very real blades

  • @gr8sword i was talking about the world championship tournaments. the participants are evenly numbered.

yeah, they're both sports. I don't know about kendo's use for survivability but I've done fencing as well epee and sabre. all the parries are really solid. it's effective as long as you don't go for a double touch and depend on right of way lol. fencing is really simple compared to kendo. maybe its because its a style that uses 2 hands an im over thinking its difficulty level haha.

  • @gr8sword wait i take that back.."some" chinese americans kendokas are good but it's mostly the japanese american kendoka's that are the top player for the US...sorry XD.

  • @gr8sword no

  • @gr8sword They are shorter the asians.

  • @brutsi All asians are shorter?! Really? That's a blanket statement that I can find so many exceptions to that it has no relevance.

  • @gr8sword On average they are shorter.

  • From what I've seen, shouldn't a Langes Messer be a bit longer, have a heavier blade, and have a long handle for two handed use?

  • @Panzervagon There are two different weapons: the Grosse/langes messer; which is a single handed weapon, and the Kriegsmesser; which is a two-handed weapon (which would tend more toward longsword techniques in its use).

  • Exelent Fight.

  • i like the fighting stile of the katana in this instance of how the person went for weak spots where armor would not be on someone like the neck or hands,

  • One of the reasons why I love these spars so much is because they show the nature of true combat- trying to strike the other person without being struck is much more complex than most arts concede.

  • @Xinsama

Do wanna say though, that because of their lack of armor and metal weapons, they're unable to strike with great power and speed. So the true nature of the blows is lost in my opinion.

  • I definitely agree with you. Practical sparring sessions like this prove that you can't just claim that one weapon or style must always be better than the other.

They are very different types of weapon that involve very different strategies, tactics and wielding styles and each brings advantages and disadvantages into the fight.

The two fighters show how careful and how aware of the capabilities of your own weapon and the one you're facing you have to be in order to survive a real fight.

  • @heavyarms01h well also, its just how many hours you've spent practicing, right? The dudes that used them for real in ancient times practiced like crazy, right?if they didnt, they died. lol

  • @aaronvespro Oh yep. There were no excuses on any of history's battlefields. If you didn't know exactly what you were doing, you wouldn't come home to tell about it. 0_0

  • @heavyarms01h Agreed, pretty much. Though I once again find it unusual to see a katana with the reach advantage in a comparision of this sort. Usually they're the shorter blade.

  • Oh, also is the wrists a legit target area in this bout? Because that is a favorite target area of kenjutsu.

  • Looks like fun!

  • Interesting! I like!

  • What is the back round on the Langes Messer???

  • @wolfmaster555

German weapon, probably translates to something like "long knife"

seeing as the Grosse Messer translates to "big knife"
