It's taboo to say this, but tests (twin studies etc) have shown a person's intelligence and character are 80-90% genetically predetermined. We are not a blank slate to be shaped by society. I'm partial to the "prussian model", which weighs votes according to the tax burden. That way those who pay into society get to decide what is done with the money.
It's quite unfair that someone who lives off welfare should have the same vote as someone who employs thousands of people and pays millions in taxes.
I guess, that's a possible alternative albeit a controversial one. Voter value based on tax percentage does result in a plutocratic form of goverment which will almost indefinatly result in regressive policies that will break the low income classes. ;equivalent to communism for the rich.
I was thinking along the lines of a noocratic/meritocratic system, that has a senate & constitution that ensures rights. It is a more radical extension to the constitution of constitutional democra.
Perhaps a combination would work. There's nothing wrong with handing the power over state finances to those who earn it in the first place (chances are they would spend it more efficiently), but of course the rights of low income people must be protected. Property and freedom rights can not be compromised in such a system (which as you said they probably would be).

Personally I would prefer people having to pass out a political general knowledge test before they are allowed to vote.

I'm a big fan of Aristotele. Sadly there are few functional alternatives to Democracy.
I'm partial to the "prussian model", which weighs votes according to the tax burden. That way those who pay into society get to decide what is done with the money.
It's quite unfair that someone who lives off welfare should have the same vote as someone who employs thousands of people and pays millions in taxes.

I guess, that's a possible alternative albeit a controversial one. Voter value based on tax percentage does result in a plutocratic form of goverment which will almost indefinatly result in regressive policies that will break the low income classes. ;equivalent to communism for the rich.
I was thinking along the lines of a noocratic/meritocratic system, that has a senate & constitution that ensures rights. It is a more radical extension to the constitution of constitutional democra.

Perhaps a combination would work. There's nothing wrong with handing the power over state finances to those who earn it in the first place (chances are they would spend it more efficiently), but of course the rights of low income people must be protected. Property and freedom rights can not be compromised in such a system (which as you said they probably would be).

The issue with democracy is any regard is that people vote either ignorantly/on a whim or they vote selfishly for people they indenfy to been the same class, selfish voting. The former creates Hitlers and Obamas the latter creates Castros and Milosevics.

You're spot on about a democracy's flaw. Albert Einstein said (translated from german) "The rule of the dumb is inevitable because their votes count as much as our and there are just so many of them".
People should vote in their best interest, but most of them vote that way with a short horizon, which technically isn't in their best interest, because it destroys those who they leech from (subconciously they know this - destroing great men elevates weak men's ego)

The real test isn't to identify 'special interests', but there is always 'special interests' somewhere.
Political choices should be moral, not based on the conspiratorial crap that passes for free thinking among so many people. Most knee jerk anti-Interventionists probably know the old mantra 'never give up liberty for security', but by opposing regime change that's exactly what they think Arabs should do, give up their liberty so a oppressive state can defend from evil CIA assets (oh NOEZ!)

You know who else has doubts about this war in Libya? The Chinese media Why? Because of oil. I would be tempted to think Russian media doubts on America's motives springs from the same source.

We are selling away our infrastructure for nothing. We won't have anything left to take the oil when we get to it. GIve the oil to China and Russia. Let them have it. I won't accept anything from those people.
