Tool are true artists. They're beyond musicians. What they create has to be interpreted at the deepest level of art. I like how someone put it; "Tool are similar to physics - in that you can't just explain it to a moron and expect them to understand."
his voice is fried, that is why it doesn't sound as good. This is very common, I have yet to see a band go out and play music every single day without their voice getting torn within the touring, it will happen.
at everyone who is worrying about maynard's voice, thats irrelevant, this was a badass performance, and this IS MY FAV SONG FROM TOOL, he can sound off all day, i think he has proved himself enough. i would watch this show live over and over, bad voice or not!!

@Journeyst: Until I saw them last year in Austin, I would have agreed with you. But if you saw them on the last tour, he rehab'ed his voice a lot. I've had vocal training, and I can tell you he pretty much nailed every song, including Third Eye and Intolerance. However, he did NOT sing this song well. Then I started noticing that even through the 10,000 Days tour, this is the only song that he consistently sang badly. I think something about it just throws him off. Also, the megaphone is awful.
@Journeyst: Even when I saw them in May of '07 (and November of '07), he sounded great except for this song. He nailed Right in Two (yes, it was awesome), Flood, Schism, you name it. I don't know why he can't sing Vicarious.
@TehKrakerzGuy not overly, there is some serious roudyness displayed on the floor. people get intense but it isn't as brutal as some moshpits and people like to be. I think most at the concert understand everyone wants to mainly just enjoy the art

The reproduction is upto shit. Especially considering he's singing through a crackling filter. Also, a singer has a more unreliable instrument than other musicians. Variables of physical fitness have a more immediate and obvious impact on your ability to perform. Maynard is a beast, live.
@amjan Having seen them doing two different shows for Lateralus, one with the whole light rig, and one that was just a quick blast-through with much less in the way of props and lights, the show with the lighting was better. It just added another level to the show. Plus, you can always close your eyes (I usually find myself doing this at least some point during their shows any way :) )

I saw TOOL several years ago in Munich and back in 98`in Vegas. Both shows were just fantastic, the crowed went simply nuts. Great, great and most talented band ever seen...servus!

He can still hit the high notes! He did the same thing in okc. But he hit everything else, third eye for example was perfect from Maynard and the whole band. Go to a puscifer show and hear him ,he has lost nothing!!!
We saw the show in Regina, SK, and it was pretty awesome. i managed to sneak my camera in to the show by putting it in my soft cast. Broke my foot and the day of the show they switched it to a walking boot...........perfect timing!

this concert was messed up....they messed up all over the place.....the first song third eye....daney carrey was a measure behind on one part....and you can see maynard trying to keep him on beat telling him to come in on one part....i saw i was there at the concert.....6:24 of this video maynard cant sing the high part of the song so he does not sing it....see other videos of them recently and he does not sing that part...i love TOOL, but they dont want to repeat what i saw at cedar park texas.

@Cordoba78 No they wont, they dont grab ur balls when they search you, its when they see the camera in the air aimed at the band is when the ushers go after you. I got about 30 seconds of third ey and that was it for the night. depends on how anal the security inside is.
@cultofpersonalitypic I don't know if your show has passed but I'll give you a heads up on this show. If you think you got "pit" tickets... you're wrong. They are doing assigned seating on the floor... I thought I had general floor tickets as well and walked in and there were rows of chairs all over the floor... once the show started I no longer cared but I was pretty pissed at first.
@wingsforangelamarie: Funny thing is, I just saw them last night in Cedar Park, and he nailed this song...and every song. He was spot on key. After watching this video again, he's only really off key here during the first verse when there is only bass playing. He must not be able to hear the bass well enough to sing on key with it, although he definitely sang it on key last night like I said, so who knows.
As much as I fucking love Tool, their music, and their live shows...I have never heard Maynard sing this song completely on key. In fact, this is pretty bad. It's just this song, for whatever reason. He sounds great on everything else.

@Cordoba78 No they wont, they dont grab ur balls when they search you, its when they see the camera in the air aimed at the band is when the ushers go after you. I got about 30 seconds of third ey and that was it for the night. depends on how anal the security inside is.

@cultofpersonalitypic I don't know if your show has passed but I'll give you a heads up on this show. If you think you got "pit" tickets... you're wrong. They are doing assigned seating on the floor... I thought I had general floor tickets as well and walked in and there were rows of chairs all over the floor... once the show started I no longer cared but I was pretty pissed at first.

@wingsforangelamarie: Funny thing is, I just saw them last night in Cedar Park, and he nailed this song...and every song. He was spot on key. After watching this video again, he's only really off key here during the first verse when there is only bass playing. He must not be able to hear the bass well enough to sing on key with it, although he definitely sang it on key last night like I said, so who knows.

As much as I fucking love Tool, their music, and their live shows...I have never heard Maynard sing this song completely on key. In fact, this is pretty bad. It's just this song, for whatever reason. He sounds great on everything else.

Excellent! Captured it perfectly. I was lucky enough to be down on the floor... Too bad there are a bunch of assholes talking throughout the song. I liked how they played this one midway thru instead of at the end (like the last tour)... Whatta show. Austin tomorrow...
