@SUP3RJ3W113 The banging is caused by Anti-Lag, a system which alters the ignition timing so that when the driver is lifting off the throttle (i.e. when changing gear), fuel is detonated with the exhaust valve open, as a consequence pressure is exerted on the turbo so it continues to spin. Thus when the driver hits the throttle again the turbo is already on boost.

The side effect is a massive increase in heat on both the exhaust manifold and the turbo, so turbo life suffers as a consequence!

@pcass31 i think you are right, these anti lags sound more agressive from what i usually hear in Rallying. I don't want to imagine the exhaust manifold temperatures after such runs :)

@ahage4x4 When running for 3 hours of racing the Manifold is almost as hot as you put it in the oven for 5 hours and putting it back into the engine. You need to have a good intercooler for this kind of burst of power.
