sounds like Joe T playing here-go to "englishbluesman"--his YouTube site--you'll see he is as good as Clapton was in this era---Clapton's best era is Joe T's normal way of playing.
people like bonamassa-mayer-shepard-lange-would kill to play like Joe t-
I loved Cream I didn't know the band members names, just loved the music on my transistor radio, didn't have money to buy albums. So funny to see Eric Clapton then talk about looks changing! WOW
I guess it's only fitting; Cream is about to play their final show and the BBC are suddenly interested in learning all about guitar technique, ha ha. Interesting that many feel this final show is limp; I quite like it.
Townshend is ultimately way bigger than Eric and Eric would say the same thing. Who does Clapton listen to for fun - Status Fucking Quo! Composing is MUCH rarer than instrumental virtuosity. Having said that; EC is probably my favorite soloist.
As a guitarist this is sooooo valuable the fact that he actually shows you phrases is totally awesome. It's like here's some riffs from claptons bag of tricks. And he's also explaining to everyone who's not a sound tech or guitarist this is how a wah works, this is how volume is, this is THE WOMAN TONE god that tone legendary. Personally my favorite tonal setting whatever you play becomes so satisfying. It fills you up. And Clapton is awesome for making it!!!!
@skiinginmt Yes, "sex for the ears" indeed...and your ears get to have a cigarette afterwards too. 0:55. Convenient package deal with Cream. (And a groovy guitar.)
That's the thing w/ Clapton, as opposed to, say, Hendrix: Clapton's controlled aggression that came out only in the music, b/c he was pretty stiff and mainly just stood there on stage. But you never knew that listening to the records.
I wonder what that very same exact guitar he was playng would be worth right now.I would guess A whole lot. wow thanks for the lesson. and Iv'e been playing most of my life.
Of all the different guitars that I've heard Eric use over the years, I think that he sounded best on the SG. I do like his work with the Firebird though.
he's tone is so good that you even forget about that nasty nail

Very cool to have Clapton give you a guitar lesson
from 1968-in 2011!!
mrmd53 7 months ago 34
@mrmd53 No other blues players could play like Clapton save for Jimi. Those two ruled the roost in this period which was brutally competitive.
clarkewi 5 months ago
@clarkewi ..I agree!
I had the chance to see either CSNY or Hendrix one night so many years ago..
I chose CSNY..which I'll never regret-the guitar duelings between Stills and Young.
But the idea to catch Hendrix was never realized..he passed away.
mrmd53 5 months ago
@clarkewi
I have to throw Page in there with them, and give Jeff Beck at least an honourable mention.
