Of course I agree with you on the tempo - it is "Adagio" after all!
This is the same camcorder I've used on all the videos, but for some reason, the sound quality is not great on this one. If you click the little double down arrows under the video, it will bring you to more info including a link to another recording of mine of this where the sound quality is fine.
you know...our organist played this before our good friday service a few years back...i think it's a great example of an "outside" piece of music can be integrated more perfectly that some of the old "classics" ever could hope to be...
This is one of my all time favorites. I had a piano version in C major that I use as an organ prelude, and I lost the darn thing, but a local music store is reordering it for me in time for Thanksgiving and Advent seasons.
I love this music and I love Pipe Organs! To hear this music in a pipe organ is wonderful! Thank You. I´m from Brasil and my mother in an organist/pianist! I just LOVE pipe organs, but mainly in those powerful musics that uses a lot of the big, deep sound, pipes like Widor´s 5 tocatta. Those sounds go deep in my soul, such a pleasure, its so powerful, amazing!
Barber's "Adagio for Strings" is the second movement of his 1936 "String Quartet #1". 31 years later, in 1967, Barber set his own music to the text "Agnus Dei" (translation, "Lamb of God") for eight-part choir (S,S,A,A,T,T,B,B).
This is the first time I've heard this as an organ piece...really awesome. Makes my heart swell with...what? Yearning? It's wordless, so beautiful..There's like a sacred space between the notes. Thanks for putting it out there.
Excellent! I appreciate how you respected the music... you allowed it to develop at its own pace, never rushed. Also enjoyed seeing the specs of the instrument. The beauty of your performance came through in spite of the tempermental recording equipment.
What a wonderful performance (in spite of your camcorder and construction issues)! The broad sweep of this is like the Bernstein recording with the NYPO - the Adagio is really adagio. 5*'s
The audio quality is not very good, but one doesn't need to be a genius to know that this is being played... I can't describe it, awesome.

@SuperBersuit
Correct, I had audio problems that day with the camcorder.
My other posting of the Barber "Adagio.." doesn't have the audio problems.

The slower the better on this piece (in response to the guy who said faster).
Yours is the best speed of any keyboard version of this on YouTube.
Yup, I agree with some - recording quality not on par with the nice playing.

Thanks for viewing and your comments. It is "Adagio" but open to interpretation.
Sometime listen to the Bernstein recording of this with the NYPO - sublime.

This is the best, most sensitive Barber "Adagio for Strings" on the pipe organ on YouTube. Gorgeous! Bravo! 5*'s

Some music transcends words - this is one of those - and yet your words really do help us understand this radiant work. Thank you.
