Beethoven, Symphony 7, Allegretto, mvt 2. also later on you hear Shostakovich's 5th Symphony - 3rd mvt. (part 2) and Albinoni- Adagio Cosmos has THE best music
This moves me in much the same way that a Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, or Handel piece of music moves me. I am a layman when it comes to any science, but I am in full support of the scientific community and hope that they can one day show the ideological religious community the harm their superstitious beliefs bring to our species. Carl is absolutely right when he says that we have immense potential, but unfortunately some people want short term profits. RIP Carl Sagan :).
you should be proud always we are humans. We explore every caveat of human life at all times over and over. Perhaps we can eventually break the insanity and become something amazing. I triumph of life!
Sad yet beautiful dream in the sense that Carl Sagan was so determined and cared so much for the human species, this particular part i can see and feel it so much from him. Man his words moves me far more than any religious teacher or dogma ever could.
@XmegaPresident-- Religion without science is blind; and science WITHOUT RELIGION is crippled - spoken by a pretty good scientist, a smart fella by the name of Albert Einstein
@XmegaPresident how come all people from around the world, no matter how isolated, have the concept of right and wrong? It has nothing to do with religion. I hope i am never alive for a day (not that it will ever happen) were religion is abolished around the world; for there would be so much sadness, poverty and a huge drop global moral. You live your life in a box, and have never had need for religion. If you went into the real world, you would see how important it is to most people.
Scary to think 84% of the world ignores evolution, gives their will over to a god and corrupt leaders that manipulate the religious beliefs of the nation.
Help end religious ignorance through education - Facts versus fiction.
Well there are options, it certainly isnt working with business as usual.
Capitalism is gonna fail soon as the war machine stops getting fueld by money. A free market may work but not for profit. Slavery of the masses by the wealthy is going to have to end.
Education and housing for all would be a good start on the road to redemption for the wealthy profiteers.
The main problem here is that those in power aren't smart enough as to realise when a world social tendence is forming. Therefore, i am afraid they will "know" what's coming once it's not possible to avoid it.
Hitler's actions were foreseen by many smart people in dates as back as 1923, nobody listened to them. Later on, the only way to stop one madness was another madness. Today, our capabilities to inflict destruction are million times greater, the result will be million times worst.
I think its sweet irony that creationists dont like this Carl guy because he's an atheist, and yet, from productions like this one, he might be the most important prophet earth has seen yet.
And atheism is the only answer, 'cos with it you tear down all the ideological and religious barriers down. you don't need to "belive" in anything to understand his message. You just need to be able to add 2 plus 2 in euclidean decima mathematics and get 4 to do it.
I think that the most important question is not if there's intelligent life out there, but if there's any intelligence here. Because if we follow this path, we will never get to know IF there's intelligence out there.
I just realized-- Carl is also a great actor. As if he wasn't already good at so many other things.
I've shot several Sagan-themed videos around his adopted hometown of Ithaca NY. If you like Carl, you will probably like them. You see where he lived, his monument, and, where he now rests on a hillside.
I broke down and cried the first time I saw this segment, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I was no different than the believer watching "Passion of the Christ."
Well, actually there was a difference: I was crying for all of us and I knew there was no triumphant ending.
Christianity = born out of blood = inferior culture = fear = hate = war = aggression = greed = dualism = suffering = death = destruction of advanced civilizations = lies = deceit. And now Islam is rising up to take the place of Christianity......though at the moment they are the only ones resiting globalism and its self-destructive effects. But one day these two Abrahamic worlds may collide and we all know the irrational faith based Warlords will dish out the nukes.
You know, being an atheist and not having the brain washed as you do i can easily say this:
ALL the religions are crap.
The same things you criticize on Christian rleigion can be said about Islam and Judaism. Less of those "defects" can be found in pluritheist religions, but they can be found too.
I never said Islam and Judaism aren't crap either......I'm just saying that Christianity has done a lot worse things. But yes, those other religions are crap.
The fact is that every religion is basically based on fears, primal fears. This is much more noticeable among the monotheist religions, so of course, when you manipulate the basic feelings in men, you can never be sure which cord are you going to "play".
Fear gives birth to hate and greed, and hate and gredd give birth to aggression, destruction, Wars and death, which in turn to be maintained need the existance and perpetuation of lies, deceit, hypocresy and double moralities.
If there was any one human being who helped to prevent the Cold War from going "hot" -- and at 20,000,000° F, Thermonuclear Fusion bombs are hot -- it was Carl Sagan. Truly :) He really did help to spell out the world, for political leaders and everyday citizens alike, that would result from our "Mutual Dendecy" to want to kill each other. He helped us, as a human being like us, we don't have to do that anymore.
This episode, "Who Speaks for Earth" is by far my favorite of the Cosmos series. It changed my life. This is singularly the most passionate cry for humanism I have ever experienced. The need for us to come to peace with our technology and each other has never been more clearly demonstrated.

I used to think that, what with the cold war being over and all that, that the threat of a full blown out nuclear war was also over.
Oh how naive I was, I'm much more worried in today's religious climate than I ever have been before.

Beethoven is between 1min 12s and 2min 48s, the Adagio is said to be from Tomaso Albinoni but Wikipedia says it is originally from Giazotto

Who Speaks For Earth? . . . well organised religions are trying and failing as they argue amongst them selves.
TwoOpposableThumbsUp 3 years ago 3
If i may answer you...
You do.
He does.
She does.
I do it.
We all speak for Earth, for Earth is our home.
And when speaking for Earth, you are not speaking for the empty planet, but for everyone and everything that flies on top of it through space.
But the only way to speak well is to know the subject, so learn, study......and then teach.
PaxInvictis 3 years ago
These need the COSMOS tag. maybe toss in terms like peace, evolution, environment, etc.

Religion is a system of control. It is a subliminal way of controlling the humans from "right" and "wrong".
It is the "first" grand-scale subliminal control that man has designed..
Religion is the pursuit of truth right?? This is the truth.
When the human race evolves from religion, it would be a superior movement.
XmegaPresident 4 years ago 42

your partly right.
Religion provided civility amongst those who would run rampant and draw from every resource to be the prevalent one.

@CannibalCatfish If religion disappeared nothing would change. Our morals come out of a desire to survive, not religion.
And most of the atrocities have either been caused, or justified, by religion, so it doesn't do much to help morality at all.
