The guy who got this shark brought it into Depot bay dead as it got caught in his crab pot and drown. the sark was found dead and they towed it in and called the state police to report it. when the police got to the bay he was ticked for the take of the shark. I have been fishing these waters commercial for crab for years. It is hard to say or doubt these guys that it was stuck in the bridal. However, i have pulled up allot of dog sharks that were inside the pots. I'm sure they didn't know that it was illegal to bring in a white, but they do now and so do allot of people along the coast.. Theyr'e either killing it for the fun of it, or they didnt mean to. If they wanted its meat they would have cut off its fins just before killing it as that prevent mercury leaking into the meat and spoiling it. I have never and will never do that but i know this from other fishermen

There was a crab pot (like a giant cage that is attached to a rope that sinks down to the bottom - the shark was after the pot and got tangled in the rope. they think his gills were damaged by the metal of the pot. This is like someone ridiculing those who cut down trees, yet they build a house of wood and own furniture made of wood, and.... I can see if it was intentional, but... it wasn't.

When I was 5 years old a fisherman locked me in a freezer with a shark at a cannery here in Oregon, and since then i have issues. I have worked on Trawlers and fishing boats since then, but have certain problems when it comes to sharks. I know it isn't right, it just is was it is. The state fine is a slap on the wrist ($299 dollars). The federal fine for Harassing, possessing or killing a great white is over $4,000 dollars and punishable by jail time. But I agree they should have just let him off the hook since the Marine science center got a partial specimen. I mean it's not like he knew the law or that he will ever do such a thing again. As a matter of fact he will probably warn others not to keep such an animal.

I have been fishing these waters commercial for crab for years. It is hard to say or doubt these guys that it was stuck in the bridal. However, i have pulled up allot of dog sharks that were inside the pots. I'm sure they didn't know that it was illegal to bring in a white, but they do now and so do allot of people along the coast.. It is a shame to see that young white dead. To bad they couldn't have just left it where it died.

my boss is friends with the guy who caught the shark, it was stuck in the bridle of a crab pot. Anyways if they were fishing for great white sharks they would have the set up to carry it in the boat and hang it by the tail. instead of dragging it on shore. I don't believe they were fishing for a great white...but I don't believe that a shark of that size and power got stuck in a crab pot. Otherwise, we would have seen some video shots of them pulling up and trying do untangle a dead shark before roping and dragging it back.
Either way though, they're actions once they had the shark on land were childish and stupid.

Whats disgusting about it? Have you ever seen photographs of fishermen with their catch of fish this size? Or even hunters after putting down a deer/elk/ other large game? Its man conquering beast.
About how the shark died, theres photographic proof of their story as well as the fact that the shark has already been looked over and there were rope burns on it from where it was tangled up and 0 proof that the fish was "caught" with any other device.
