I love this song. MB has always created greats. Every time I hear this....it brings up memories and always helps me create more. Life is a memory...and dream ...and many things. It takes us wherever it wants to...peace in the end tho.
Great memories from this mellow song. I like to think it's about people leaving their home land (UK) for Australia, South Africa, Canada etc, as so many did back then...
one of my favourite Moodies tunes - surprised there aren't more views or posts of this. It evokes so many memories of past friendships - some drift apart unfortunately - but we always hope someday to relive them for a moment. I had the pleasure of seeing them in concert last night and I was totally thrilled. They didn't play this one unfortunately but their power and vocal range were intact.
I can remember that I bought this album on vinyl ( LP ), and listend over and over and over, alone upstairs in my bedroom, now , after all those years, ( on CD ), still one of the favourites, on long trips in the truck, passing endless roads, yes, still , wow.
Your soul has been defrosted and welcomed back to your youth. Now, take that knowledge and 'hope' to propel yourself and those you love into a prayerful life for all ages; those past and those to come...
"Cuando seas un hombre libre" extraido de Seventh Sojourn, album realizado en 1972, matizado en la linea de la sicodelia. Con la banda inglesa "The Moody Blues". Este album fue #5 en UK y #1 en USA: En este produccion se utiliza un instrumento llamado Mellotron, todo un descubrimiento para la epoca. Ademas era el septimo album de la banda.
Yo Ho! I was on night-shift in Glasgow, Scotland, going home at 06.00, listening to this new album on 8 track in my Mini Cooper S. Across the Kingston Bridge at 100 mph. with this just blaring. Ah, the good old days! No speed cameras in 1972!
The first recording I had of 'Seventh Sojourn' (I already had copies of all their previous US-released albums) was on an 8-track and I also remember the girl I was dating. Her name was Susan and the car was a powder blue 1961 Ford Galaxy Starliner.
One of the only rock concerts I ever got to see was Moody Blues at Melody Fair Theatre in Niagara Falls, NY.
The first time I heard this I had the most overwhelming sense of deja vu. Not necessarily the song itself, but of a previous life. It still has that effect on me and yet I can't quite put my finger on it.
I used to sit for hours listening to this album in '73. Man, life seemed so straight forward then! Everything was ahead of me. Now I'm on wife #2 with grandkids! Where did life go when I wasn't looking?
I bought the moodies 1st 7 albums as they were released. Their music always made me more aware of life's mysteries and beauty. This music expresses eternity and I will never tire of it...
This song is one of the reasons the older Moody Blues albums were so awesome. Not that it's the best song on the record, but it helps to complete Seventh Sojourn and instead of using a Chuck Berry "filler" like the Stones always did, Mike Pinder shoved such a unique song into our faces. Hearing this track brings back such vivid memories for me as a kid...and to me, that helps define whether a song or album is great....and this song and album are great!!!!
"Played on a street corner, the music came from above; crack pipes shattered, and the rappers stopped their diatribes. Souls spun and centrifuged hate, filth, murder and death against sudden walls of hope. With that, soft rain rinsed away an entire generation and, once again, the flowers returned...
I remember who I was dating and how I listened to this LP album over and over....yes, I'm that old!...but I hear this and it brings back such memories....the power of music!
@HOUSEOFFOURDOORS They'd probably admit they were extraordinarily naive. Leary was in Algeria @the time; he was actually on the run for years, B4 he turned himself in. By then, the Moodies weren't writing about him anymore. It is a nice period piece, tho.
justin hayward once said "mike made my songs work". moody lads are all neat people.
love them so much. a fan snce 1967.

plese help...the end of this song with the flutes/horns/pipes? whatever it is
is that a traditional melody added at the end or an original ? it sounds familiar.
if taken from a traditional piece does anyone know the name?

Yes, only this time it doesn't directly mention him.

who says it's dedicated to Tim Leary? there were plenty of political prisoners to whom they could have been referring.
