the ak safety probably for carrying in vehicle,A/C,empty chamber/full mag inserted;if droped butt-down,will not cycle enuf to chamber a rd.un-ass vehicle in combat, click safety off, chamber rd,fire away;or click safety back on.
big advantage of rpk recvr is heavier trunion block (bbl bearing;saw, sustained fire);galil based on rpk.
the russians have lots of FTXs where you could see/fire on way distant "objectives",big 800m hill easy to hit,as some body advances under your fire-arc

Feeder problems, eject problems etc. Always go with reliabillity and power. 5.56 is for extreme policing, as special force i will rather trust in my abillity to aim and power than having a fancy non working rifle. 7.62 will put a heavy set person down even tho its not a critical hit.

@kyl64 Somebody had a better idea. Instead of using messy welding tools and possibly mis-aligned sight picture, why not manufacture a stamped receiver with the rear sight. This is brilliant, and I can see it tightening your shot groups.
@RyanR3volution ik ak's are accurate enough, i just traded my ak for a bushmaster m4, BUT the creators purpose in mind was simplicity and the ability to spit out lead. eugene stoner wanted accuracy.
So, you don't need .75" groups to kill a target, you think the target is going to care that the round is 2" away from where you shot. Be realistic. Having an AK and a M1A DM rifle are the best thing you can do but If I was just running around the AK is the go to rifle, the M1A would be for selective targets or if I am to scared to go farther to engage. That would be hefting a lot around but that is why having a partner is best.
@RyanR3volution Every time someone mentions AK-47 I cringe. Relax about that thing. Its been long ago replaced in production for Russian military with 5.45 AK-74 and now AK-74M with cold forged barrel, all-black furniture and at 300 meters is almost as accurate as any M-16.
Well that is your opinion and is not shared by by all, 5.45 and 5.56 do not perform well in urban environments, Chechnya proved that. There are parts of Spetnaz that kept 7.62x39 weapons.
The AK in 7.62x39 has been updated as well, I have a AK103 which is the same thing as the AK74M except in 7.62x39.
The AK47, AKM, and AK103 are all accurate out to 300 yards but I guess you think you are going to be a Carlos Hathcock in combat and shooting 800 yard shots :/
@RyanR3volution Bro I realize all that. I'm a gun nut too after all :) I merely state that AK-47 designation used all over the place and often incorrectly. If people were referring to it as simply "7.62 AK" then I wouldn't care. Its just people obsess with "AK-47". Funny but USSR never called it AK-47. IzhMash called it just AK. Next was AKM and then AK-74. AK-47 was wests name for it.
You should look up AK-107/108 and AEK-971/972/973. Very interesting weapons I'd say.
Well, I know that the vast majority of AKs out there are AKMs, AK47s are very rare. I get what your saying. I like the AK107, the Ak100 buttstock on it is real nice. The one thing that Arsenal definitely does not do is mimic real Russian technology, they get it close by a glance but the muzzle break and stocks are all different. The Izmash stocks are much more heavy duty than the Arsenal crap ones they put on the SGL rifles. The one thing about 5.45 is that with brush,it keyholes
@RyanR3volution Apparently the 5.45 was meant to have a cavity with a little ball in it to induce tumbling inside the person. Then those were quietly banned. If I had a choice I'd get an improved-ballistics 7.62x39 round with a balanced gas system AK or AEK. They kick once and after that just stick to your shoulder and are very controllable. Sadly Russian MOD haven't bothered with it.
I like Hornady and VMAX 7.62x39, they are very scary ammunition. 7.62x39 is said not to tumble but I know a paralyzed Iraq veteran who was shot with a 7.62x39 and it tumbled through his body (hit near the armpit) messing up his stomach, liver, and severed his spinal cord.
The VMAX 5.45 is real nice as well. I think the muzzle break on my AK103 tames the recoil well and makes follow up shots much easier.
in Canada we don't choose between AR-15 and AK 47 type rifles, we just have AR-15's with 5 round magazines. i'm a huge fan of both guns, but if i had to choose, i'd go with some AR-15 variant firing 6.8 SPC preferably with a short stroke gas piston instead of a direct impingement gas sytem
thanks nutnfancy for the review, please do a 6.8 SPC rifle review in the future like a bushmaster or Barrett REC7
Your videos are the best made on youtube hands down. No one else comes close to the time you put into your videos and the detail that you give about the weapons
you videos have really helped me and i cant wait till you make more BTW for all you gun lovers out there dont waste time pick which gun you like more buy both im not just talking about these 2 guns im talking about any gun it might cost a little more money to buy both guns but it will be worth it in the end
Forgive me if I'm asking something that's already been asked... But does that Vepr have a slant cut receiver?
By the way, thank you for putting this together Nutnfancy, it's been a great help in understanding the limitations in each system. Unfortunately it made me realize that I need at least one of each lol.
ak 47 is better then the ar 15 or m16 or m4 or any different model ...ak models are way more reliable there bullet have more stoping power behind it and i hate to say it but a ak is just as accurate as a ar or m4 stop the baby shit and saying omg ar are more accurate ...ak have durablilty ...dude if you know how to shoot a gun a ak will hit its target jus as a m16 ...ak are better though
ak 47 is a awesome weapon system as well the ar15 system. i personally sold my ar and still have my ak.... Just my personal choice of weapon system..... But there are also the saiga 308.... unmatched unless you compare the ar10......... Great VIDS nutnfancy keep em coming!!!!
Prefer AK47 over AK74 because the round has more punch up to 200 yards.
Hate the AK safety though hard to use quickly and can cut up your fingers while trying to use fast. Which is irritating. Plus selecting is speed slow and difficult compared to a AR15.
@sunnahproduction They are kicking ass? No they just dont care if they die because they are brainwashed morons. Kill death rates are EXTREMELY one sided. Those turban headed fucks are dieing by the boatload.
I had never considered that about the AK rear sights. Good hypothesis though. Mine goes out to 1,000 yards. The first time I looked at it, I was like "WTF? I don't think I'll ever shoot past 300 with this gun."
The 5.56x45 needs to be traveling 2700fps + to reliably fragment. Out of a 16" barrel its traveling 2766fps after 100 yards. 150 yards is 2609, below the reliable fragmentation threshhold. The hole you leave will be .22 and increasing as the bullet yaws, and coming back down and it continues its rotation.temporary cavitation is cut in half, less at further ranges. out of a 11.5'' barrel the fragmentation range is a mere 45 meters. fuck the jam-o-matic AR. go AK. better yet FN FAL
I looked at the Bushy H-bars. Very nice. I still opted for the SW w/ military barrel bcse it came w/ free-floated quad rail and folding sights. Stuck a Leupold VX-III 1.5-5x20 scope on it and angle fore grip. Too cool. Not too heavy either.
in a real war AK will never let you down, not only its more powerful and affordable. That gun can withstand any war like conditions, like cold below 0 C, can be soaked into water, mud, sand, dirt. just imagine if your gun stops working because of these important factors
If I get enough money, I'd spend it on the Bushmaster ACR because it has that piston system and still feel like an AR-15. But since it's so expensive, I'll take either the AR-15 or AK
@AirsoftVeteran96 That's the problem with people who said that one thing is better than everything else. How can they know if they have never tried everything else?
(((_{-_-}_))) ~salutations earthlings~ 7:00-look no further ladys, nice barrel too... 9:41-distance between sites:16' or whatever) eye to first site to barrel site 0'x16'x32' comfortably, variable eye ratio, 14:00 heavy barrels are superior, less movement, stronger, handles heat(who wants to pee down their pipe when in the middle of a lead exchange?) and may be used as a pry-bar/tool secondary weapen etc... who in the world doesn't love a lab?
Well it depends on how you shoot, on a 16" AR the sight picture is the same length as on an Ak. It just really depends on if you like your sights in the back or forward. But I don't know what your talking about, the length between the two sight posts are the same on 16" ARs. It all depends on the users preference.
@AJaxProductions1 what have you even measured them? They are 1" shorter than a 16" barreled carbine length AR. 1" does not make that much of a difference.
well to be honest the Russians have moved to a AK variant which basically shoots a 5.56, or at least as close as they can get without violating NATO, so I would take that has enough to say that the 5.56 is superior
@Kooletz71 Got that right, I mean the stopping power of a 7.62 is obviously alott more powerful but the overall specs of the 5.56 in distance and accuracy do prove to be more superior over the 7.62.
With the veper AK, does it make a diffrence that it doesn't have magwell dimples, similar to a Wasser-10, where the magazine wiggles and wobbles, or does it still hold the magazine tight as if it did have the dimples?
I'm envious of you man, you can spend a few hours each week completely testing out and describing weapons. Just working with them is fun, and it feels good to hold them, gives you a small sense of superiority over your comrades and a false sense of complete security when in conflict. You, my friend, are one lucky guy!
man am a filipino an ex special forces member i dont mind what kind or brand a gun is, you know man dont trust on the gun and dont fear on the gun but fear the man behind the gun. we are the best in counter guerilla oparation man we only use our limited resourses survival man.
the good thing oot ur ak or it brokes if you toss a fully loaded steel mag about steel mags is that for any reason they shoot ur ak you can toss them a fully loaded steel mag and he is out
@butch598 in urban situations sixteen (many number keys doent work so as the other parenthesis for open areas like onehundredfifty or more a three-o-eight
5:52 Nutnfancy is exactly right. Soviet infantry tactics revolved around massed infantry fire. When you have superior numbers take advantage of that fact. Not exactly efficient, but it does get the job done.
@WW2Fanatic1000 I don't think the Soviets taught those tactics after 1945. I think Nutnfancy might be wrong about the sights. Lots of infantry rifles before the Kalashnikov had overly optimistic sight graduations. My enfield has 1000m sight graduation and there's no way you would be able to shoot that far using iron sights in combat.
@esh325 The Soviets may not have thought that concept throughout the cold war, but I know they did for a time. The AK 47 was designed for massed infantry fire, but the later models were more precise. I was just stating that the Soviets did use that tactic. Good point about the sights.
No mention of Thermold Mags. They're smooth-sided mags for the AK (I have an STG-2000C from IO - would love to see you evaluate that particular model) so they avoid the hangups you have with the waffle sided mags while still offering weight savings over the steel mags, plus better lubricity and no issues with rust.
@GlascoIndustries dude first of all i am a hunter and i have shot tons including the ak and the m4 so shut the fuck up- the only thing that the a has going for it is stopping power out to about 200 yards after that the bullet loses all of its speed and drops big time- the barrel on the ak flexxing causing it to be inacurate and the m4 shoots way farther with more speed and less bullet drop and now there is the m468 which has more power and still has the range and acuracy so fuck you
@GlascoIndustries ur and idiot the ak is not accurate its a piece of shit- also it is way less capable of shooting distance than an m4 the ak bullet travels to slow becuz of the weight. Also the new m4 6.8 are really nice lots more power with way more accuracy than the ak
dear GlascoIndustries... am i ignorant? NO.. IVE BEEN THERE ;) while the m16/m4 and ar15 may be very similar weapons.. i cant really speak about AR's as i dont own personal "guns" it still stands the the m16/m4 family are easily more accurate at distance than most any AK with thier flexing barrel full auto spray and pray method lol and range for my m16 was never an issue. it hits as far as i can see with iron sights.
@worldtravel101, Find me a gun barrel that doesen't flex during firing. Spray and praying is totally to do with the user, not the weapon. In Vietnam US soldiers waste something 50,000-100,000 rounds of ammo per enemy killed with a M16.
@ GlascoIndustries the m16/m4 has far better accuracy and range compared with the AK. dont believe everything you hear on the news. while it may be true that many piston driven rifles are less prone to jamming, many of the m16/m4 jams are due to being dirty. mine was always cleaned regularly... a clean weapon is a reliable weapon.

in Canada we don't choose between AR-15 and AK 47 type rifles, we just have AR-15's with 5 round magazines. i'm a huge fan of both guns, but if i had to choose, i'd go with some AR-15 variant firing 6.8 SPC preferably with a short stroke gas piston instead of a direct impingement gas sytem
thanks nutnfancy for the review, please do a 6.8 SPC rifle review in the future like a bushmaster or Barrett REC7

ak 47 is better then the ar 15 or m16 or m4 or any different model ...ak models are way more reliable there bullet have more stoping power behind it and i hate to say it but a ak is just as accurate as a ar or m4 stop the baby shit and saying omg ar are more accurate ...ak have durablilty ...dude if you know how to shoot a gun a ak will hit its target jus as a m16 ...ak are better though

In Russia, AK47 long decommissioned army in the seventies replaced AK74 in the nineties and passed AN94
Biogem369 1 year ago
Prefer AK47 over AK74 because the round has more punch up to 200 yards.
Hate the AK safety though hard to use quickly and can cut up your fingers while trying to use fast. Which is irritating. Plus selecting is speed slow and difficult compared to a AR15.
Like the Vepr's PSG-1 style stock though.
Personally I think AR15 and M16 variants win.

I had never considered that about the AK rear sights. Good hypothesis though. Mine goes out to 1,000 yards. The first time I looked at it, I was like "WTF? I don't think I'll ever shoot past 300 with this gun."
zma924 1 year ago

That gun can withstand any war like conditions, like cold below 0 C, can be soaked into water, mud, sand, dirt. just imagine if your gun stops working because of these important factors

the ak sights are the reason why its so innacurate the front and rear are wayyyyy too close thus amking any inprcise measurement catostrophic
AJaxProductions1 1 year ago
@AJaxProductions1
Well it depends on how you shoot, on a 16" AR the sight picture is the same length as on an Ak. It just really depends on if you like your sights in the back or forward. But I don't know what your talking about, the length between the two sight posts are the same on 16" ARs. It all depends on the users preference.
RyanR3volution 1 year ago
@AJaxProductions1 what have you even measured them? They are 1" shorter than a 16" barreled carbine length AR. 1" does not make that much of a difference.

well to be honest the Russians have moved to a AK variant which basically shoots a 5.56, or at least as close as they can get without violating NATO, so I would take that has enough to say that the 5.56 is superior
Kooletz71 1 year ago

666Salem1991 1 year ago
5:52 Nutnfancy is exactly right. Soviet infantry tactics revolved around massed infantry fire. When you have superior numbers take advantage of that fact. Not exactly efficient, but it does get the job done.
WW2Fanatic1000 1 year ago
@WW2Fanatic1000 I don't think the Soviets taught those tactics after 1945. I think Nutnfancy might be wrong about the sights. Lots of infantry rifles before the Kalashnikov had overly optimistic sight graduations. My enfield has 1000m sight graduation and there's no way you would be able to shoot that far using iron sights in combat.
esh325 1 year ago
@esh325 The Soviets may not have thought that concept throughout the cold war, but I know they did for a time. The AK 47 was designed for massed infantry fire, but the later models were more precise. I was just stating that the Soviets did use that tactic. Good point about the sights.

No mention of Thermold Mags. They're smooth-sided mags for the AK (I have an STG-2000C from IO - would love to see you evaluate that particular model) so they avoid the hangups you have with the waffle sided mags while still offering weight savings over the steel mags, plus better lubricity and no issues with rust.

trueblue151 1 year ago
@GlascoIndustries dude first of all i am a hunter and i have shot tons including the ak and the m4 so shut the fuck up- the only thing that the a has going for it is stopping power out to about 200 yards after that the bullet loses all of its speed and drops big time- the barrel on the ak flexxing causing it to be inacurate and the m4 shoots way farther with more speed and less bullet drop and now there is the m468 which has more power and still has the range and acuracy so fuck you
probowhunter 1 year ago
@probowhunter The 7.62x39 drops about 14 inches at 300 yards which is quite good. Most modern combat doesn't take place past 300m.
esh325 1 year ago
@esh325 the round is good alot of good weapons use it such as the m14 but out of the ak its not good at all
probowhunter 1 year ago
@probowhunter The 7.62 the M14 uses is not the same the AK-47 uses.
esh325 1 year ago
@esh325 AK = 7.62x39, M14 platform = 7.62x51
QuiksiIver 1 year ago
@GlascoIndustries ur and idiot the ak is not accurate its a piece of shit- also it is way less capable of shooting distance than an m4 the ak bullet travels to slow becuz of the weight. Also the new m4 6.8 are really nice lots more power with way more accuracy than the ak
probowhunter 1 year ago
Very helpful & insightful series... you are excellent Nutnfancy!
lunablu1978 1 year ago
@GlascoIndustries hmm i dunno as it seems im ignorant and i never fired a "5.6" haha ;)
worldtravel101 1 year ago
dear GlascoIndustries... am i ignorant? NO.. IVE BEEN THERE ;) while the m16/m4 and ar15 may be very similar weapons.. i cant really speak about AR's as i dont own personal "guns" it still stands the the m16/m4 family are easily more accurate at distance than most any AK with thier flexing barrel full auto spray and pray method lol and range for my m16 was never an issue. it hits as far as i can see with iron sights.
worldtravel101 1 year ago
@worldtravel101, Find me a gun barrel that doesen't flex during firing. Spray and praying is totally to do with the user, not the weapon. In Vietnam US soldiers waste something 50,000-100,000 rounds of ammo per enemy killed with a M16.
esh325 1 year ago
@esh325 yea the ak has such a shitty barrel real bad barrel flex
probowhunter 1 year ago
@ GlascoIndustries the m16/m4 has far better accuracy and range compared with the AK. dont believe everything you hear on the news. while it may be true that many piston driven rifles are less prone to jamming, many of the m16/m4 jams are due to being dirty. mine was always cleaned regularly... a clean weapon is a reliable weapon.
worldtravel101 1 year ago 2
