You know, I gotta ask... with all this talk about Obama being treated like a rock star, being called "the one" or treated like a saviour... wasn't that EXACTLY how Ronald Reagan was perceived back in 1980? So what's the difference?
@Griezz no difference - Reagan said a lot of nice things *government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem* but during his 8 years government spending increased. The right wing spends just like the left. Stossel is not a Republican. Libertarians believe in both civil liberties & fiscal freedom, even if your ideas disgust them on a personal level. Trying to control people for their own good never works, no matter how kind or clever the ruler/leader is.
I think this is what a lot of people think about Ron Paul. Don't get me wrong; he is a great candidate, and I will vote for him, but he cannot fix our country alone.
I don't lump you into them. People complain that Ayn Rand got government help when she died (that that made her a hypocrite). I think the fact that she relied on friends to help her when she was sick is a testament against her philosophy. She wasn't a Nazi but a swindler. If her friends were true followers of Objectivism they would have let her die miserably. They broke her ideology out of a higher value than greed.
Nice try Stossel but you've failed again. This is actually an incorrect guide to politics. You praise greed and then act astonished when politicians act greedy. Hey Stossel it isn't poor people or socialist politicians who cause capitalism's messes but rich people and their political servants. But it is always poor people who pay the price. But like the 19th century know nothings (know nothing about history, economics, science) you Objectivists/Tea Partiers know nothing about all of the above.
@perdondaris Well when politicians are being greedy, they are fucking stealing, so yeah that is not something that I take kindly to. When a businessman is greedy, he has to convince you to give him your money, VOLUNTARILY. That is the key difference between capitalism and socialism. In capitalism everything it voluntary, in socialism you are coerced by the government to give them your money and then they tell you how they will spend it. I'd rather have a choice, but that is just me.
@metzger90 Well lets say your boss tells you to do something unethical and quite frankly would hate to do. You can go right up to him and tell him to go screw himself and quit. You can quit your job, run out on your wife and kids, stop paying the bills that you owe and become a homeless person getting free meals and shelter from voluntarist charity organizations like the Catholic Church. There is no "coercion" in the business world--no blacklisting, no blackmailing, no lying, no intimidation?
@perdondaris How arrogant, did you just literally say that your opposition knows nothing about about all these subjects but you do? Well you obviously don't know much about capitalism to think that capitalists agree with the idea of 'political servants'.
@666or999 I say this not out of ignorance of your ideas but my experience of them in the real world. I went to a conservative Catholic high school and a conservative Catholic college. They never taught about the labor movement or any other left wing movements. I only found out about it by happenstance in my local public library. I was never happy in those conservative milieus because they were always lying to get ahead, stabbing their friends in the back and puffing themselves up with nonsense.
@perdondaris Well i'm sorry that the conservatives tried to indoctrinate you in thier incoherent philosophy but please don't group libertarians and objectivists with them and assume that they are ignorant.
Any presidential candidate, or sitting president, that says they will cut and/or raise taxes is deliberately taking advantage of America's appalling ignorance of our own government. The legislators (ie, congress) control taxes, not the president (ie, the administrator). The president's job is to administer the budget that has been legislated. Unfortunately, every modern president abuses and distorts this balance for political purposes, and stupid voters just go along with it.
Nothing is ever going to change in US.No matter who is president. The RICH ELITE are the ones that really control everything.I really don't care what people do to try and elect a good person but America is in deep trouble right now.Being President is no special office you can hold anymore becouse to get anything done left and right partys have to agree on it and thats just not gonna happen.
I'm impressed a black man got into power in America, but if you look past that, and his inspiring character, you have one of the most draconian rulers of the previous few years. I'm surprised people are not protesting and striking to change a very corrupt and morally wrong nation who's acts of genocide are written down in the pages of history. I can't believe people buy this shit.
As Winston Churchill once said, "A politician needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn't happen."
Directing the skating was a great idea, how can we LET people slide around with blades on their feet? :P Funny how entitled to step into & arrange someone's life the gov. officials feel & how much entitlement we hand them ... if you think it through it's the complete opposite of the country stands for.

This film doesn't offer much of an alternative. It screams free market and neoliberalism. Americans need to understand that indulgence and mass production doesn't last forever and ever. The goverment doesn't create new jobs, yes, but regulation over the market is a necessety (sp) to make education, health care, and social benefits available to everyone, rich and poor. I'm not a fan of presidental candidates, but I think of Obama as the lesser evil. Socialism is not evil.
I wouldn't consider socialism evil, people support socialism out of good principle such as the idea that all people have a right to healthcare, education, and financial support. However, I don't agree with socialism either, we're better off with free market capitalism if you ask me. And under socialism, people can get away with other people's tax money, which is very unfair.
the thing is, you don't have a "right" to financial support; you don't have a right to "free healthcare" and education is very borderline as a "right." People support socialism because they hear "free stuff!" Just look at the Obama voters who think Obama was going to fill their gas tank and pay their mortgages.
Socialism is good if you are lazy and don't care about quality of life.
you're absolutely right. Socialism benefits the lazy and irresponsible at the taxpayers' expense. Actually, if no one worked (in a socialist country), and completely depended on the social programs, the whole thing would tumble down.
But the thing is that Socialism is not evil, it's just too idealistic.
We don't really need regulation over the free market and we have little need for social programs if the free market is deregulated. If the free market becomes more "free", almost everyone will have the ability to make money, whether it's from starting a business or working for a business. There wouldn't be an excuse for anyone to be poor if the market becomes deregulated because there wouldn't be government restrictions on the poorer people to make businesses.
Your logic Blows....Hitler was a human...does that make people evil? Hitler was Austrian.....does that make Austrians Evil? Hitler was a great orator....so anyone who has charisma is evil? Id don't like socialism but I've heard better arguments from 3 year olds.
Tom Selleck and John Stossel both know how to rock a mustache. By the way i heard Selleck doesnt each vegetables etc. Only eats meat and bread and fruit. hehehe
Glad to know someone still has a sense of humour in these surreal times of legitimised usury.
Bring on the next snake oil salesman.'"Yes I'll tell you what you want to hear and then do the opposite".
Goldman Sachs have all the TARP funds that's why they're paying themselves the biggest bonuses in the company's history.
So 2% of the population still runs the banks, the FED, all the media and foreign policy."Look at those Muslim's, no don't look at Israel, watch these mind numbing programmes."
mind numbing programs,,, god i know. Its like 95% of tv is crap. I dont even watch it all that much cept for maybe some History Channel or Discovery channel, or comedy central when i wanna unwind. But most of the tv today is total crap. U can actually feel your brain cells dying when you watch it. I wish someone would have the balls to put some bullets in these bankers heads, and corrupt politicians and news makers who hide the mistakes or blame other things to shield there masters.

Reason must prevail, we all need to think like Gandhi. Expose the lies and criminality through reason.
Rhetoric, as a disguise, is the gift of politicians, lawyers and the propagandist media. You have to question their stance.
