I brought this camera and it broke with little use. The reason was I brought it from an online company. Provisual Direct - don't buy from these people -
I payed 275 pounds for a five year warranty which was a waste of paper. They refused to fix it, even when I sent it to them - they sent it back the same day in a different smaller box to save themselves money. Just a warning in case anyone thinks of going to those people. Thank you
people, this video was published over 2 years ago, by that time neither Youtube supported HD resolution, nor HQ. Only poor quality with small resolution wand monaural sound. The review is actually very useful.
@xbornstubbornx Resolution and bitrate aren't everything. Dynamic range and depth of field play a much larger part in the judgment of quality in relation of a camera.
hey m8 i see this was put on ayear ago, am looking at getting into the filmmaking side and reading up on the new finalcut 6 has dig non-linear editing .... has final cut 6 just came out?
You silly silly, man... Nevermind this is the FIRST SONY PROSUMER camera to shoot 24P at 1080... or the fact that it uses 3 cmos sensors instead of ccds to eliminate vertical smear... or that it records to inexpensive tape rather than P2. Cineform has software that works in conjuction with Adobe Premiere to enable use of footage from this camera - gives you true 1920X1080 res, and a lift from 8 bit color to 10 bit. Try READING some more about the cameras before you climb on YouTube next time.
Hmm - perhaps you shouldn't believe all that Sony state. The sensors are interpolated to get 1920x1080 res - it isn't true 1920x1080. Oh, and HDV is 8 bit, so 'lifting' the colour to 10 bit doesn't get you any more information. Try READING some more about video before you climb on YouTube...
What's not "true 24p?" You sougund as uninformed as the guy in this vid. The V1U IS TRUE 24P! The HVX is a great camera. But don't dis the V1 with bogus info just because it's not your camera. The V1 has true 24p... I have one and that was a requirement for my camera. The only negative that this fellow gets right is the variable speed focus. That is definitely not a plust on the V1 and I can't think of a single benefit for having it. Otherwise the V1 is a great camera!
haha, i love how he has the fat ass LCD like...glare cover or something...and says "with this on, its hard to get to the focus buttons...or hard to see them"..haha yeah obviously, that big ass piece of plastic is in the way. his tone of voice makes it sound like theres no saving this camera.
Funny - I thought he said that some of the buttons are in dumb places and the focus ring is a pain. That doesn't mean he doesn't like Sony, it means that the handling could be better.
yeah you are right, my comment could have been better. I am a Canon XH-A1 user and just thought the review could have been a bit better as this cam is still very nice..maby the 25p mode it can shoot...it just seemed very negative at thhe time. Thanks
The quality of this video made me want to vomit out of my anus...

What is that cover over the LCD screen on the V1? Or more importantly, where can I get one? It doesn't already come with it, right?

just wondering:
what would be the diference in picture quality be between a semi professional video camera eg. the sony hvr-z1 and a hd camcorder?
what is better about the semi professsional ones?

Pardon the major typos on this last post. I had my 2 year old on my lap while I was typing.
Again, the V1U is true 24P. Don't let the obviously uninformed tell you otherwise.

You don't like Sony do you? Then don't do a Sony review in such a negative way. You have told nothing about this camera at all...Sorry

thanks for your efforts, but when all is said and done, it's the quality of the image I think people care about. You've said nothing on this

A good review.
The Information is spattered about in this quite long review though. It could be of more value if it is edited down to a more viewer-friendly length.
