So...George Laraque just lost to Erskine too. Everyone loses. Hell, Bob Probert, who is considered the best ever by many, Got TKO'd against Todd Ewen when he was Lucic's age. I agree Lucic is not quite in the top 5 yet, but he's only 21. I'd rank him somewhere in the 15-20th best fighters in the league, but he is top 5 most entertaining. No defensemen take position like on a power-play they position themselves. There is a long list of effective defensemen who were slow as shit. Where do you get this idea that Hal Gill is this great player. I have watched this guy play since he came in the league on Boston and if you're under the impression that he is any better than Komisarek you will be sadly disappointed. He is slow, rarely fights and he is not even that good of a hitter. Lucic will tune him up first chance he gets.

Toronto made it to the quarter finals every single year from 99-04. So they've tasted the playoffs quite a few times.
Also, competition was much more fierce when there were fewer teams. The more teams, the more likely you'll run into uncompetitive teams, as you see the likes of the L.A. Kings, Fl. Panthers, Phoenix coyotes.
