@two2handedbowler you probably use the two finger and left hand curve i presume? i did the same thing, but its not as controlled as i wanted it to be, so im working on one handed curving, and so far it works MUCH better than two handed curving. i would recommend TRYING it :)
ok so ive been bowling for 3 yrs using conventional and i have a ball drilled with that setup but its made to hook so when i throw it it does not get as much hook as id hope so would getting my ball re-drilled for fingertip help (i have a ball set up for fingertip)

The weight of the ball has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING - if you throw it correctly!!!
If you are older than 10 years old - you should be throwing a 16 pound ball!!!!!
It is your swing - NOT the ball.
1st step - ALWAYS PUSH the ball FORWARD - DO NOT let it fall to your side - keep your arm straight - let your arm & the ball naturally swing like a pendulem - and you will NEVER feel the weight of the ball!!
Anyone that says the weight of the ball matters - is WRONG - DO NOT LISTEN!!!
you are a damn retard.... it does matter, young people do not have a strong enough grip in their hands to bowl a 16lb ball down the lane, you bowl what is most comfortable for you... and the pendulem thing?... you're just putting strain on shoulder, and the socket your shoulder rests in. that is not good at all, especially for people with joint problems/arthritus etc. why dont you think before you type something trying to sound smart. dumbass
You shoulder is a ball/socket joint - and if your arm is straight - and your grip correct - you CANNOT TELL the difference between a 12 pound ball and a 16 pound ball - IF you are throwing them correctly.
My twin daughters started bolwing at age 6 - by 8 they were BOTH throwing a 16 pound ball - they were taught CORRECTLY - so strength - HAS NOTHING to do with the weight of the ball!
IT IS A PENDULUM - Weight of the ball means little!
@Earthlinked well done. good parenting there. go 16lb, why not go get a 50lb ball and bowl that, you can't tell the difference anyway as your shoulder is a ball and socket joint
@Dragon4eva Except for one thing GOOBER- they don't make 50 pound bowling balls - a 16 pound ball is the heaviset ball made - anything heavier is illegal - so NOBODY makes them!!! And a heavier ball will NOT help anyway!! There is no market for a 20 pound bowling ball - and they figured that one out MANY years ago!!!!!! What a JERK YOU ARE - talk about something you know - probably nothing!!!!
@Dragon4eva Do you even bowl? A 16LBS ball is heavy enough to wear a bowler out after a full 30 frame game. No ball is made that is heavier than 16 LBS. It would damage the lanes...and the bowlers arm/hand.
@MrZombificated A firgertip ball has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with weight!!!! If your approach is correct and your ball movement is correct - a 6 year old can throw a 16 pound fingertip - it has EVERYTHING to do with shoulder movement - and balance - and ABSOLTULY NOTHING to do with the ball's weight. I started throwing a 16 pound fingertip at the age of 9 years old!!! and I carried a 186 average for over 20 years!!!
@FancyGapClawhammer if you understand bowling is thowing a heavy ball down a lane into some pins. its pretty obvious weight has something to do with it. you are bullshit.
I've been bowling for 12 years and I am USBC sanctioned, I'm more than damn qualified. Your fingertips have NOTHING to do with holding the weight at all. All the fingertip drilling does, is give you more lift out of the ball to create more rotation; hence, more hook, it doesn't "disperse" weight differently than a relaxed fingertip or conventional. So let me use your words..."you are bullshit."
@FancyGapClawhammer im not talking about throwing it, im talking about holding it in general. if something is heavy, it should be hard to hold. end of story. thats all im sayin
The heavier the ball the better...if the ball is drilled right to fit your hand, that ball will not come off, and it WILL be easier to bowl with. People have a tendency to force and muscle the ball, i.e. the ball is too light. A heavier balls allows the ball and gravity to do the work, which is what's supposed to happen. Again, don't talk about something that you do not know.
@FancyGapClawhammer if you were new to something ie bowling, its pretty reasonable to think that the heaviar the ball the harder it would be to throw.
I don't even know why I'm talking to you, nothing you say is plausible because you simply have never bowled. I'll admit it, I've wasted my time with you.
o wow whats the whole point of the video hey people today i am gonna teach you how to bowl all you do is throw the ball woo strike yea i am a expert how awesome am i stupid video
I avg'd about 162 and had a 276 high game w/ a convential grip on a Columbia Messenger and now own a fingertipped Raw Burn Hammer. It's taking some getting used too and tearing up my thumb.
I have a video of me throwing my Hammer, poorly, and am thinking maybe 16lbs is too heavy to get a good rotation. Bad habits I guess.
16 is definitely too heavy when first tryin to support a ball with more revs. that happened to me. try a 12 or 13 and see how that turns out. worked for me
@ArcticChibi . No, "hit" does not mean spin. He's referring to the bottom of the swing just as you're lifting up with your fingers to generate the revs. The harder you hit it, the more revs you create. You can really see this in crankers like Amleto Monacelli.
Finger tip= allows more rotation on the ball, essentially allowing it to hook depending on the way you release the ball.
The lifts are used for adding more rotation or revs to the ball. Allows for a sharper entry angle into the pocket. Look up cranking and that's one way to get extreme revs on a ball.
Basic advantage is you score higher because your hitting the pocket at a better angle than a straight ball. It makes the pins explode when you hit the pocket.
Ah thanks alot, another question though, what exactly are the revs? (rev rate) I know rpm, but how do people calculate that, I see people writing comments ''my rpm is 321'' for example, how do they calculate it?
Pretty much you need to video tape yourself bowling. You have to slow down the video and watch the ball make one rotation. At the same time, you need to count how many milliseconds it takes to rotate once. Then divide that by the number of feet down the lane which is 60. If it takes .2 seconds for the ball to rotate once. rpm is 300.
But the ball makes more rotations when it comes at the end of the oil, so what about that? And btw, if it is 2 seconds for one rotate, isn't it 30 rpm instead of 300? Thanks
PBA member since 1989 and he's telling us that with a conventional grip you put your fingers in "all the way up to the knuckles". Is that so Mr Expert? What bowling grip allows you to put your fingers in all the way up to your Knuckles?
i strongly suggest fingertip just got mine re drilled and ive got to say its awesome went to a 150 average to a 450 average i get turkeys like everytime
Anyone notice that "Expert Village" people are anything but "Experts". Anyone serious about bowling should go with fingertip grip immediately! Don't let these "Experts" waste your time and money with conventional grips. You will learn to throw the finger tip ball quickly and be able to concentrate on technique to improve your game, instead of having to worry about getting your ball re drilled or having to buy a new ball and learn how to release all over again.
This guys knows nada. im 17 with a 250 average and about 7 300 games in my life. start out with the full finger tip don't listen to this guy. once u practice enough with the finger tip u'll get the fundementals down. ( thanks wheezer97 for cut the bull out of what he said.)
Dude... Have been bowling for over 40 years. Don't use slang like hit, carry and lift in your videos. Speak english terms that make sense to people that have no idea what your talking about. It's a lot easier to the novice bowlers.
I bowled fingertip on my ball today since I recently got it done.
I don't have a high average (135), but I could say that my games were high for me with a 171 and 175. Nothing to spectacular for me, but I think I could easily get myself to do fingertip instead of conventional.
Also, I see a LOT more hook in my ball. Within a year, I expect to see 200 games more often (my highest was a 235 months ago). Of course, words do no justice to action, which is the most important thing.
you'll average will go down when u start bowling fingertip..because u have to learn how to bowl again..but itll shoot back up..when i started bowling i was shooting a straight 112 average..then i learned fingertip and my average went down to like 90...but months later it shot back up to 140..and less than a year from starting bowling im shooting a 168 average with a high score of 257..but make sure u practice alot...
Actually, for me it's going up. I recently got a 214 with it and my average now rests at 140.
I don't know why, but fingertip isn't giving me a hard time yet, if at all. I think my average will shoot up to a 170 maybe by the end of my Youth League next year.
hi everybody can anybody help me out i hv made many vids on my channel but i didnt get any response is my vids been watched by others i dnt know can anybody tell me is active sharing related to this????????
HAHAHAHAHA convetional for beginners Ive always used conventinal I can hoot my ball from the right gutter to the 7 pin and i average over a 200 sooo really? It depends how you bowl not when someone says oh thats for begginers thank you :)
Ed is my bowling coach. He normally does not sound like that.. I think its the cameras.. and the fact is that hes trying to explain all this information in less then 2 mins.
Finger tip isn't THAT hard once you know how much your ball would hook.
I got mine back from the proshop today and bowled a few games with it. Nothing too different than what I usually bowl (40 pins over average).
I was taught to bowl as if a conventional ball was fingertip. I think that's the best way to go to a novice bowler starting out. He won't get the hook, but he WILL get the overall feel so that fingertip conversion isn't a nightmare (nobody likes nightmares).
your ball fits improperly or your holding it wrong. you might be gripping to tight. make sure you dont bend you thumb in the thumbhole. try to keep it straight, youll also get more hook that way.
Yeah if the tip of the thumb is injured your gripping it too hard/wrong and if the l portion is red the tape in your thumbhole is too high in the hole if you have no tape then you just have a bad drill job
you can also tape your thumb, but make sure it still fits in the hole, if that is happening to me usually i just put a bandage over the tip which protects it
That is because you want your thumb to come out of the ball before you turn your hand over. Sounds confusing at first but you will know when you throw a good ball nothing will hurt. you may look at my video if you want.
If you have just gone to a fingertip grip for the first time, blisters often occur because you are simply not used to it. You have to develop callous. You will get used to it though. It is possible that the ball was drilled wrong however.

excuse me but actually finger grips r only 4 support or comfort ... straight drilled balls without grips get more lift on the shot so u get more carry without grips just incase u didnt know...

One of my subjects of my presentation is fingertip, but I don't really know what to say about it, can someone please answer these questions? :
- why fingertip?
- why the tubes in the holes with fingertip?
- advantages of fingertip?
I kinda know, but I really don't know how to explain in my presentation, so please someone help.

Dude... Have been bowling for over 40 years. Don't use slang like hit, carry and lift in your videos. Speak english terms that make sense to people that have no idea what your talking about. It's a lot easier to the novice bowlers.

I'm 15, and looking to have a 200 average even though mine is a 178. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much.
coldassassin99 2 years ago
I bowled fingertip on my ball today since I recently got it done.
I don't have a high average (135), but I could say that my games were high for me with a 171 and 175. Nothing to spectacular for me, but I think I could easily get myself to do fingertip instead of conventional.
Also, I see a LOT more hook in my ball. Within a year, I expect to see 200 games more often (my highest was a 235 months ago). Of course, words do no justice to action, which is the most important thing.
smroWfonaC 2 years ago
you'll average will go down when u start bowling fingertip..because u have to learn how to bowl again..but itll shoot back up..when i started bowling i was shooting a straight 112 average..then i learned fingertip and my average went down to like 90...but months later it shot back up to 140..and less than a year from starting bowling im shooting a 168 average with a high score of 257..but make sure u practice alot...
DefSims 2 years ago
Actually, for me it's going up. I recently got a 214 with it and my average now rests at 140.
I don't know why, but fingertip isn't giving me a hard time yet, if at all. I think my average will shoot up to a 170 maybe by the end of my Youth League next year.

I don't use my thumb. Well, I do, but it's off to the side, supporting the ball. Kinda looks like the rock on hand thing.

timmyboy1975666 3 years ago
Did the same for me, but after a few weeks i was back up to my average and now I'm way better.
Skiierseamus 3 years ago 2
Finger tip isn't THAT hard once you know how much your ball would hook.
I got mine back from the proshop today and bowled a few games with it. Nothing too different than what I usually bowl (40 pins over average).
I was taught to bowl as if a conventional ball was fingertip. I think that's the best way to go to a novice bowler starting out. He won't get the hook, but he WILL get the overall feel so that fingertip conversion isn't a nightmare (nobody likes nightmares).
smroWfonaC 2 years ago
fingertip gives you move revs and a smoother release.
wurm00069 3 years ago 2
ummm....finger tip isn't really more "advanced"...I am classified as a "cranker" and i use a conventional drilling.

RSmusic1994 3 years ago
Is this full quid. Fingergrips doesn't instantly mean more 'hit'. Nor does going from conventional to fingertip. It all comes down to technique.

i've been having blister with fingertip bowling
very unsightly..
please help
my thumb has 2 injured areas...
the tip
and the L portion
all became reddish
megadisc1982 4 years ago
your ball fits improperly or your holding it wrong. you might be gripping to tight. make sure you dont bend you thumb in the thumbhole. try to keep it straight, youll also get more hook that way.
jonpeters09 4 years ago
Yeah if the tip of the thumb is injured your gripping it too hard/wrong and if the l portion is red the tape in your thumbhole is too high in the hole if you have no tape then you just have a bad drill job
billiam4212 3 years ago
you can also tape your thumb, but make sure it still fits in the hole, if that is happening to me usually i just put a bandage over the tip which protects it
ochelshrub01 3 years ago
That is because you want your thumb to come out of the ball before you turn your hand over. Sounds confusing at first but you will know when you throw a good ball nothing will hurt. you may look at my video if you want.
Bfilas1592 3 years ago
well i have a giant blister because my ball does not fit me anymore just get the holes widened
chipmonk51264 3 years ago
If you have just gone to a fingertip grip for the first time, blisters often occur because you are simply not used to it. You have to develop callous. You will get used to it though. It is possible that the ball was drilled wrong however.
petersmongo 3 years ago
no crap. this is for advandced bowlers?

excuse me but actually finger grips r only 4 support or comfort ... straight drilled balls without grips get more lift on the shot so u get more carry without grips just incase u didnt know...
Rebelrocker1 4 years ago
u need fingertips 2 create full rotation on the ball
